Check around online over the next month or so if you are wanting another one. Powell sold most of their remaining stock to dealers at a huge discount. Those places will be lowering their prices on them to move them. Plus since they got them at a discount they'll still make money.

I was very skeptical of the lexa. Well I ended up owning 3 of them. I gave them a beating too. I have nothing bad to say about them. You can also look at the new Exceler. It's basically a lexa but has rivited knobs. I had 2 of those also and didn't notice a difference between the lexa. You already answered your own question. Some prefer tip up and some like tip down. I like a casting combo to balance right on or just in front of the reel seat nut. If I can get it balance anywhere up to the hook keeper is fine. As long as it's not tip heavy. That I can't stand.

It just depends on how they're made. Probably more importantly is the reel you'll be using. Some rods balance better with a heavier reel or vice versa. This is my experience anyhow.

It's not bad but it's on the stiff and heavy side. It is also a $50 rod, so you kinda expect that.

Yeah same here. Front moved in,temps dropped,rainy,and even flurries in higher elevations. You'll love the rod.

Welcome to the world of nice rods. Yes,you can get better but it comes with a cost. The endurance series is discontinued though. Better buy the ones you want soon. I suggest adding a 723 to your mix. The 714 is nice for heavier weights but the 723 is the perfect all around rod for up to 1/2oz. At least for me it is.

As for the type R. Well it's been discussed over and over about the differences between the regular Tatula. You aren't gaining anything other than cosmetics basically. You get red accents,black paint,Zion drag star,2 crbb's,porting in the frame, and a very slight .03oz weight difference. Unless you want the ipt of the 8:1:1 then there's no need for the type R. I fish them side by side every time I'm on the water. I couldn't tell you which one was in my hand if I was blindfolded. OP you can get one online for about $90. It's one of the best reels in the $100 range. Just beware of it's slightly larger frame size. Some people have not liked how it felt when palming.

It is definitely a fun combo to use. I like the reel a lot but doubt I'll buy another. I get bored fishing super slow. This has made it a bit more fun to use light/finesse baits though. Was throwing a 3/16 Rapala jointed floating minnow yesterday. This is one reel that I noticed a pretty decent difference in casting distance by installing boca os7's. It is just what I'd expect from a high end Daiwa. Very smooth and super light. With a recon 713 and full spool,the total weight is right at 10oz. It's a blast to use.
