  1. I keep my knot selection very simple. Braid - Palomar Fluoro - Uni Mono/Copoly - Palomar Braid to leader - modified albright or Alberto
  2. If it's curly then that means you overheated the line and that's why that happened. Cut and start over. Use more saliva and cinch it down slower.
  3. You don't have to buy it brand new. Most of my high end stuff is used but in great condition. You can find deals if you look around.
  4. Being so heavy made them feel dead to me. That's why I suggested buying 1 first. That way you aren't stuck with 2 rods you might not like. The new ones might be a good deal. Who knows though. Only you can decide if you like them. I know a lot rave about the old diesel and say how great they're. Ect ect. To me I thought they were a waste of money.
  5. Try one out and see what you think.
  6. They were the old models. Didn't know they had a newer one.
  7. I had 3/4 models offered. Only one I didn't have was the crankbait rod. I'm a huge Powell endurance fan. Love my Endurances! I just couldn't like these rods. The 610 spinning rod is labeled a medium and was just as stout as the 723 medium heavy. Couldn't find a use for it except catfishing. The the 723 and 765 are both tip heavy and all of them are heavy in general. Sensitivity was what you'd expect of a $50 rod. Buy one and try it out. I can say after using the 3d you bought you might feel the same way I did. It's like going from a Corvette to a Cavalier.
  8. The zipper noise sounds like 2 gears that aren't engaging. I know the sound you are taking about but it's weird to explain. I'd send it back for repair or replacement.
  9. It's been discussed that kvd l&l has no affect on braided line. Some say it helps to hold its color longer but as for line manageability no. OP - power pro is a nice low cost braid. Get the super slick 8 if you want a little less guide noise. I don't mind that part.
  10. I think that statement holds a lot of truth. I always see people throw senkos/stick worms around my area. Most are leisure fisherman and don't get really into it like myself. Even the select few that I know who are addicted to fishing don't stray too far away from them. For me a Tx rig rage craw is my 110% confidence bait. There is never a time where I don't have one rigged up with a 3/16 weight. I decide to get into swimbaits before the season ended. I've gotten nothing but strange looks and jokes being cracked about them. People telling me those things won't work around here ect ect. Well I can't wait to put the hurting on some fish this spring with my mattlures hardgill.
  11. The zoom trick and finesse worm should be in everyone's soft plastic lineup. Along with flukes and brush hogs.
  12. Well this all good news. I didn't want to be limited to light weights. I'm sure this rod will quickly become my favorite and that means it'll get the most use. So I wanted it to be able to be used for everything. My endurance 723 was so versatile I ended up with 2 more.
  13. It's more of an enthusiast upgrade. Flushing and adding 1 drop of a lightweight oil to each stock bearing will be a great improvement. Anything over abec 5 is not necessary and even those aren't really needed. It's a relatively cheap upgrade but honestly a professional deep cleaning and/or super tuning would be money better spent. As you will see soon, you'll get people saying they're worth the money. For me they aren't but I still buy them because I like to waste money on dumb stuff.
  14. Maybe try a better fluoro. I've never personally had this happen. I also haven't heard much positive about fluoro cast either. I bought a bunch when walmart did their clearance sales. I use it for leaders on my spinning rods since I change the leader every trip or more.
  15. I only have one with hedgehog parts but all the rest get factory upgrades. Different spools, more bearings, handles, ect. You know how it goes. I don't have a car hobby anymore so I have to spend it on something. Not being married helps a lot too.
  16. Great advice but you are late. Hedgehog and tackle trap get me every time.
  17. Tatula type R 8:1:1 - $125 Zillion 7:1:1 - $191 I have both and either are great reels. The zillion is a proven workhorse. The tatula is newer but has proven itself too so far. Don't feed too much into the lightweight argument. My frog rod is a 7'3 heavy and it balances out better with a heavier reel. As for the drag ratings. Well 8lbs of drag is more than enough. Those high drag numbers are marketing gimmicks. My purchase would be a tatula R and a spool of #50-65 braid. You'd have some money left to pick up some more frogs.
  18. I'm bitten by the Daiwa bug. Being able to upgrade them is terrible for my wallet.
  19. You can bet that they're will be an R version of the new zillion. I'd say probably within a year or so. I'm certain Daiwa will stick to their typical black and red scheme. That their thing with R models.
  20. Shimano makes a good low priced spinning reel. Just pick one that fits in your price range. I use the $30-40 ones on my river rod and truck rod. Have held up to years of fishing. Match that with a rod that fits and you are set. Maybe a Berkley Lightning rod.
  21. Welcome to the forum young man. Are you buying just a rod or trying to get him a rod reel combo? Does he use spinning or casting gear? Does he fish for bass or just fish to catch fish?
  22. Kvd line and lure will help make the like more user friendly. Fluoro can be a pain. I've never cared for seaguar but I know a lot of people like it. Fluoro is also one of those 'get what you pay for' things. Also making sure you spooled it on properly isn't a bad idea.
  23. 1 vs 1/0 is just the progression of hook sizes. The 1/0 is bigger than the 1. Then it goes 2/0 3/0 ect ect
