All 3 For shallow spools that only hold 70 yards I use 1.5 wraps of electrical tape and then tie direct. For spools that hold a normal amount I use cheap mono backing and then tie to the braid.

The people who paint reels and do it properly use a primer/base/clear. Same process and materials used to paint a car. Not out of a spray can. A good paint job lies in the prep work. Being in a hurry leads to poor results. It's a tedious process to get good results. Anything plastic usually gets some sort of adhesion promoter as it will make the paint stick better. I've painted 1 reel and I doubt I'd do it again. It reminded me how much I didn't enjoy body work when painting a car. I'd rather send it off and pay the $100. It's a lot of taping off and sanding. That's entirely up to you. I have 2 regular Tatula's and a type R. If you blindfolded me I could not tell the difference between them. Same with adding the extra bearings to the reel to make it a 12 bearing reel. One of my Tatulas I added them and the other is totally stock. I'm not even sure which one I did it too. I'd have to pull off a knob and check. For me the only reason I bought a type R was because I wanted the 8:1 ratio.

It's 2015 and most people shop online for the best deal they can get on a particular product. I'd say 8/10 people don't buy at retail prices.

This reel is built on the type R frame so comparing to a regular Tatula is not exactly a fair comparison. The type R has the Zion drag star,ported frame,anodized spool,cast control cap,2 crbb,and a lighter spool. If you read my first post I said at retail it is the better deal verse the R BUT you can buy the type R for $120 online. If someone wants to pay retail then that's clearly up to them. How can it be a lot more quality when they're both the same exact reel made by the same exact company? Only difference being the paint job. That's like saying the Chronarch 50E is better quality than the Curado 50E. Same reel with different paint job. Yes,bearings are that cheap. I was being nice when I said $5. Daiwa gets them by the thousands. So they're only a few cents each. I got 10 of them for $5 shipped. That's only 50 cents each.

It's a Tatula type R with 2 bearings added to the handle,2 bearings added to support the worm gear, and different color scheme. About $5 worth of bearings that can be added to any tatula reel. Though you won't notice any difference in smoothness by doing it. If you were paying retail then that is the better deal BUT you can get the type R for about $120 online. Any H rod in your length preference would be fine. Once you add a trailer to your jig it becomes 1/2oz I use my powell endurance 714 for everything you mentioned. A $200 budget gives you a lot of good choices. The Tatula 7'2 would fit for what you're asking.

You can buy replacement skirts from a bunch of different places.

I like the color green so it appeals to me. Also the price tag. I have a few Dobyns that I got really good deals on but if it wasn't for the deals I don't think I'd of ever tried them out. Well we won't know until May. Personally I don't like the *** due to the trigger on the reel seat. It digs into my ring finger. Nice blank though.

It's also a lot of disappointment too. You can go out 7 times and get skunked all 7. One of the best things I was told was. Leave everything else at home and only take your swimbait setup with you. That way you are forced to keep throwing it or pack it up for the day. It's way too easy to set it down and grab another rod if you take more than one. You aren't going to catch fish on a swimbait if you're not throwing it.
