  1. Sounds like you have a good set up. One thing I will suggest, myself having recently learned (started, at least) to fish jigs, is to stick with it. I used to tie one on for 15 minutes, not get bit, and give up for the day. To really learn I had to stick with it and keep one on all day, usually resulting in a few nice fish. Hope this helps. Brian
  2. Not very common, but i like the 4.75 inch berkley havoc bottom hopper in black. Nice and cheap, too.
  3. Thanks again guys, these replies really answered my question well. Thanks!
  4. Watch this video, Aaron Martens is a great teacher. As for hooks, I use 2/0 Gamakatsu finesse wide gaps, but I know gamakatsu makes a dropshot specific hook. Never tried the VMC Spinshot but they look nice, too.
  5. I think what you've done to your boat looks great. With all this deck space you are saving, have you considered finding a way to install a foot controlled trolling motor? That is my main complaint with my bass raider is that i have trouble driving while i fish (hand controlled TM). Either way, your boat looks great. Brian
  6. I would try going for a reaction bite with a rattletrap. Cast it out and burn it through where the bass are feeding.
  7. I bet he was embarrassed. I am sure he was appreciative for what you did but I could understand a grown man not wanting to talk about a situation like that. Now as for not wearing a life jacket, that just seems foolish.
  8. Thanks for the answers guys, that helped clear it up a lot!
  9. That is a very good question, but likely nobody can fully answer that but yourself. No picture (which I think you forgot to attach) or paragraph can show all the details of a spot. Just look for spots similar to that in the future. Start keeping a very detailed fishing log and see if you notice any patterns in the weather that affect fishing. That said, I have had some very good days fishing when there is rain in the area (like what you had) so it may have been related to the weather and the spot. Also, it sounds like a classic case of isolated cover on the bank. It sounds like there wasn't much cover on the bank except for the spot you guys were fishing, which can make for a very good spot. Brian
  10. Hey guys, it is now July and it is officially summer. I was just reading some articles in the "Seasonal Fishing" section of the Fishing Articles (on BR) and came across a few articles on summer fishing with conflicting views. One article stated that bass naturally lived in shallow water and rarely went deep, even in the summer, so shallow is where the reader should fish for bass in the summer (http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/shallow_bass.html). Also, I saw a Bill Dance episode where he said bass stayed shallow in the summer because that is where the oxygen is. The other article I read, however, stated that bass would be found deep during summer months (http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/july_bass_fishing.html). This seems to be more popular than the shallow theory, but I feel each theory has credible sources backing it. So what do you guys think, in the summer do bass stay shallow or go deep? Brian
  11. I will guess 22. Thanks for the opportunity!
  12. x2. I am on BR all the time on my phone and the mobile version of the website is great.
  13. I have to say, it is amazing what Glenn and Fluke were able to find out from 6 posts and one picture this kid made/posted. Kinda makes me think twice about all the info I may have on the internet! Thankfully Glenn is using his forces for good not evil . Back to the topic, I kinda hope this kid gets caught. He needs to learn that actions have consequences, and that no means no.
  14. For some reason I find it hilarious that someone took the time to make that map.
  15. Not to be rude but to me it sounds like you asked a question but refuse to listen to anybody else's answers, no matter what evidence they provide.
  16. x2, especially on the red part. If they are taking the lure but you can't hook them, I'd say this is your issue.
  17. Family does come first. Prayers sent from me, too. Brian
  18. Any new reports A-Jay? I am really enjoying following this thread.
  19. Never had that problem before. I have held some average sized fish (1.5-2 lbs) whose lips seemed to be unusually rough, almost to the point of hurting my thumb when they would squirm, but no itching afterwards. Brian
  20. My best memory (so far) is catching my first bass. It was at the end of last summer. I had done so much reading online and so much work trying to catch that first fish. I finally did, on a BPS XPS sexy shad colored square bill. It was a true dink- under a foot long and weighed no more than 3/4 of a lb, but I was so happy and proud of that fish. I showed that picture to anybody who would look until my iPod got stolen, the picture going with it. Oh well, still a great memory.
  21. Thanks for the idea, I think I will end up doing something like that.
  22. Thanks for the info Wayne and James, it helps a lot. I think I will get the HB PiranhaMAX 170. It sounds like I could mount it on my boat without too much trouble. Thanks again!
  23. I have a pelican bass raider 10E. So preferably store it off of the boat and put it on the boat on the water. Would that work? Also, what did you use to power it? I have a 12v deep cycle for my TM, would that work?
  24. That one looks really good...I will take a look at that. Thanks! I could get it from wally world for $91. Not bad. Would it be portable?
