  1. I think you'll find the HOLY GRAIL, before you find that set up!
  2. My standard got to is 12# fluoro for my swim baits. I find it strong enough to withstand most hangups ( and most are pulled through without losing the bait) and diameter is small enough to get it deep and move at a natural rate..
  3. For me its all about having a full reel (seems to cast better when full)- I'll fill the first half of the reel with 15# mono then tie a improved allbright to whatever I'm using for the reel. I usually get 2 or 3 full reels off one 20 dollar roll or without backing, I can only have one full reel with a bunch left over thats not long enough to anything with. So backing is all about stretching my dollar further...
  4. 7' Med Hvy / modFst action with a 7.1:1 with 12# flouro (berkley Trilene 100% pro grade)- I use it for both lipless and swimbait. Swimbaits just get a really hard side hook set, lipless just get a really fast reel hook set...
  5. I hate to admit, I have several rods that have Revo stx reels and I use either 'Skeet Reese" or H2O Ethos, but for all my Shakey Head and T-Rigs I have Two 100 dollar combos- Abu Garcia "Pro Max"( AND NOT THE HANK PARKER SERIES)- I've used them with the Revo, but still have great results both in casting and retrieving an 8lbs LMB with the "Promax". I'm guessing that you want to spend some money, but I sure would rather spend mine on gas to get to different lakes in my area. Good luck in making a decision on the magic combination for you!
  6. You lost your centrifuge braking so your probably used to being able have a nice little snap in your beginning of the cast, which the centrifuge brake took care of. Your more than likely going to have to retrain yourself on how you start your cast. that little snap is what is causing your backlash. I watch my fishing partner do this all the time! Start your cast smooth and follow through without trying to get anykind of snap throughout the whole cast. you'll get back your distance eventually with proper technique.
  7. I've been using Berkley Trilene 100% fluorocarbon professional grade- I use half backer, half trilene which is usually good for 2 or 3 reels. I have 7 setups that use fluoro so it can get expensive quick. I like the segaur abrazX for my skipping jig setup, and invizx for my worm setups, and trilene for the rest. This fishing habit can put one in the poor house quick!
  8. SHARPEN THEM HOOKS! IF ITS RUSTY, TRASH IT AND PUT A NEW ONE ON! Cheap lures, just replace the hook period... http://www.***.com/short-shank-vs-long-shank-treble-hooks-for-bass-fishing/ TRY THIS READ ALSO...
  9. Retired drug dealin biker- RRT that cant get a job, so I work on MarkVII automated car washes.
  10. GOT TIRED OF ALL THE d**n SNOW AND MOVED TO TEXAS!!!
  11. and after all that, now I feel like an idiot when it comes to my knowledge of reading topos...
  12. consistency is the key to crankbaits, my goal is to try to keep the same pressure on the hookup. the fish comes at you crank like he!!, fish goes away from you, turn it (and you may have to walk to the other end of the boat) the action of the rod really determines how much forgiveness of a mistake your going to get. fast action is pretty unforgiving, moderate is pretty nice, but really sloppy and hard to keep a constant pressure against the fish.... I personally use a cranking stick (Skeet Reese) and have yet to lose a fish with it. Thats my mentality when it comes to crank baits... that and I've made enough mistakes along the way to learn what NOT to do...
  13. heres the video. all reels will follow the same design principles, screws and bolts may not be in the exact same places, but they will be close. just take your time and lots of pictures as you disassemble so that you will be able to know what you did as you put it back together... you can also look online for schematics of the reel from the manufacturer.
  14. There's a video on here that shows you how you can clean your own equipment. I couldn't imagine letting someone else touch my reels.
  15. I use the Skeet Reese Cranking Rod, and I have to admit that I'm glad I got it... It may not be the "Top of the Line" rod, but I haven't lost a fish on it yet... My opinion is... It's a must have set up in the rod box.
  16. Since The beginning of Feb, I've been going through and trying to organize all the lures and worms I have. My wife is flat out amazed at the amount of tackle I have ( and so am I). Over the last few years I've been going to all the tackle shops within 100 miles of me (nice thing about riding motorcycles) at least once a week and going through all the clearance bins. I wouldn't buy everything in the bins, but I now have three guide series tackle boxes and about 15 of the Plano 3750 storage boxes of every color of the rainbow hard baits. over a hundred bagsof every brand of worm, craw, tube, fluke and creature. 3 boxes of spinners, two boxes of buzz baits. How much money I've spent since I started to bass fish is flat out sickening. I look at all the rod set-ups I have (well into the $2k range). All this just to catch a fish, that more than likely, I'm going to throw back into the lake (unless I know its going to die from the hook extraction). Yup! I would say I have crossed O.C.D. line and have no plan to turn back. I'm just going to have to get a bigger boat to carry all the "MUST HAVE" tackle.
  17. I marked the dry land as the point cause its all just 1d to 3d... just to indicate that there is no secondary points in this map.
  18. I've never fished Rayburn, and looking on the topo's I see lots of creek beds and was wondering for all you that have fished this lake regularly, how thick is the vegetation around the creeks and points or is it like the rest of these east texas lakes that have had most of the vegetation killed off? Was wondering if any of you know about currents on most of the creeks ie inflow or out flow? I see several beautiful potential spots to start, but what is the timber/stump depth on avarage. I really dont want to kill myself or my boat so what depth are most of the tops of the timbers? appreciate the help in advance...
  19. I have two, one 7' mh/fast for my buzz baits, and just got an extra-heavy 7'6" for an Alabama rig set up. so far I have no complaints with sensitivity on the 7'er since I use it for a topwater application. It has hauled in a 5.8 lbs bass and not problem. I have a rod box on my boat that I call the rod guillotine so I dont get the expensive rods. I am however putting together all the tools to start making all my own rods. Figure its better to spend 150 bucks on a perfect rod than 400...
  20. H2O XPRESS™ Ethos 7' MH Freshwater Casting Rod - Academy MH/FAST ITS WHAT I USE WITH A REVO STX 8.0:1
  21. I've got a topwater set up and a separate buzz/ topwater frog set up and separate frog w/ braid set up. all three could be used for anything... but! each has its own action, line, and power for a specific job. kinda like which hammer do I put a nail in the wall with- a sledge, a tack, or a framing???
  22. click the word... Crank baits Texas rig Spinner baits Froggin' Drop Shoting - just leave the tagg for as long as you need for the weight...
