I use YoZuri Hybrid on my cranking rods and KVD L&L does make a huge difference....definitely NOT a placebo.

I use both, but primarily casting for bass. I still use spinning for drop shot, split shot, many jerk baits and weightless plastics lighter than a senko, like flukes. I prefer baitcasters because for me: 1. I am more accurate 2. I can make many more casts/pitches/flips/retrieves in same amount of time 3. I do most of my fishing seated in a kayak, wearing a pfd, and when holding a spinning rod, my hands are unnaturally farther out from my torso and it is surprisingly tiring. 4. Strike detection. Two factors. I feel that I detect a lot of strikes through the reel handle of my baitcaster and that doesn't seem to be the case when I have a spinning rod...might only give me a tiny fraction of a second over what I get from the rod specifically, but I think that makes a difference for me. The other strike detection factor is that with a baitcaster, I can often have a finger touching the line forward of the reel, but i haven't mastered that with a spinning rod.

But....75 yards should be fine for now. But there's other considerations beyond how far you might normally cast. 1. Getting near the connecting knot can be a little maddening....whether it's how the line lays on the knot, or worrying if you're getting close to it after a couple months of attrition, or even if your braid starts 'catching' on the knot tags....even slight nicking during a cast will make you crazy. 2. Braid can last for years and you can reverse it on the spool after it fades or otherwise seems slightly worn. So, consider putting whole 150 on a reel....or maybe buy line in 100 yard increment spools and spool up 100 at a time. Knot a recommendation so much as more to think about than just maximum cast distance

Just a couple weeks with Dark Sky and I'm afraid that until it forecasts wind, even a little bit, I am going back to The Weather Channel, Accuweather or Weather Bug. TWC took a big downward hit with their last big update, but it still does wind better than Dark Sky. Any of the apps do temp forecasts and big precip events. I really don't care much at all about rain on my fishing days....the Dark Sky to-the-minute rain prediction is cool, but doesn't help my fishing much. But since I do most of my fishing from a kayak; some on pretty big water.....I mostly want to know about wind...today, tomorrow and next weekend. I want to know wind speed to within a couple MPH and I want precision direction. I want to know within 30 min when it is going from 5MPH to 10+. If anyone has a weather app that does wind right, I'd love to hear about it.

Sending positive thoughts. Went through it while on a business trip 600 miles from home about 6 years ago. 4 days in hospital. Sucks majorly, but sounds like you got to good care before it turned truly devastating. Best of luck going forward. Reminds me I'm overdue for another colonoscopy....

What's the difference? I mean...not trying to be antagonistic, but I can't seem to find a commonly accepted definition of a darter head -- other than most seem to assume a small jig head with exposed hook - just curious if shape of head, or size of hook or position of line tie, etc....make a small jig something different or special? I used Charlie Brewer terminal stuff in the same manner as other small lead/hook things -- but, I'm not sure he calls any of his styles 'darter'....just curious

Now is a good time to get on a few mailing lists, including REI. I have seen (and gotten) great deals in January. Check all the 'local' outfits within, say, 50+ miles. Especially, if that yak has changed for '19. Last year's inventory is being purged right now in a lot of stores.

I don't think I've yet fished a situation where I thought there was any difference between gp and watermelon. I have convinced myself that some flakes (in either) help a little....but even then, I think it rarely, if ever, matters what color the flakes are.....just something to break up the solid silhouette, I guess

I go most years, but missed it last year. I think it is well worth the drive and 2 bucks. Good mix of cheap used stuff and a number of custom makers. What fisherman can pass up an opportunity to buy more stuff we don't need?

I (rightly or wrongly) believe that some waters are simply different than others when it comes to effectiveness of non-frog topwater baits. I would like to hear anecdotes from any who are successful with WPs is areas/situations that they struggle with buzz baits.

I made some up a couple winters ago and completely forgot about them....don't think I ever tried one....once on the water, I guess I start thinking....."Hmmm...what made me think that I could actually make a better Senko than GY?" I do need to try it in these muddy local waters this year.
