Dobyns. I'm kidding...sort of. What @Bluebasser86said above. I'd bet that few on here own all of those, so you aren't likely to get an OPINION comparing all you have listed. And if you do, it'll just be an opinion. If I was headed out tomorrow to drop more than two bills on a new rod, I'd probably look to Dobyns first...maybe compare them to St. Croix and Zillion. Never held a Kistler, but I don't see why I shouldn't compare that one, as well. What more do you know/like/dislike...about the rods listed?

I, too, like Yo-Zuri. I use 8# for most spinning applications. But, for shakey heads and finesse jigs, I've gone to 12# Gliss and love it.

Marine use batteries have an incredible amount of conflicting information on the interwebs. @Way2slow has composed a very good read here....better than anything else I've seen out there.

I throw my portable jump starter into the boat sometimes. It has saved me a couple times....but it will only run the TM for about 15-20 min....hopefully, enough to get back. Other than that, I'm not sure what might have been in the vid.

Not logical to me, at all. I don't currently work in retail, but I do have some familiarity with supply chains. As a general rule, the faster moving stuff should have the most predictable demand. Sure, there can be unpredictable spikes, but being OOS of fast movers is unacceptable. Aside from the missed sales of any demanded OOS item, the fact that fast movers, by their definition, are going to be highly dissatisfying if not available when needed/wanted. Sure, everyone wants to reduce back stock; 'just in time' is a buzzword for good reason. But 'not-in-time' makes for a pretty lousy business model.

I already have a great variety of water available -- but, then again, a lot of it isn't entirely free, when I factor in launch fees, rentals, local permits, etc. 3. So, if I could put a kayak or canoe in - I think 10-15/day wouldn't be unreasonable. I'm unlikely to pay to fish from the bank. 4. Perhaps. I'd certainly check it out -- especially, if app/use is free. I'm guessing that owners will cover cost, vice renters....?

Agreed. It did slide from the beginning of second season. In fact, I said to my wife that killing off the female lead at end of S1 was a mistake. Nonetheless, it held our attention to the end.

Never been a huge Western fan, but went to see Hostiles couple days ago and was pondering this exact subject.... Recently finished three series on TV that were all very good: Godless and Hell on Wheels are well done; Deadwood was fantastic; probably now my favorite western TV series. I give high honorable mention to Firefly, which is probably SciFi in most minds, but I always thought of as a Western. When much younger, I liked the Leone westerns, but tried to watch GB&U a couple months ago and the first 15 minutes lasted for five hours. I do watch Rio Bravo and Sons of Katie Elder every time I flip channels into them, but they aren't exactly great cinema. Single best might just be Unforgiven

I'm in the same boat as @Darren. My FIOS dropped Outdoor and added Pursuit...but only if you pay out the butt for a sports package. Hoping it will stream outside of those channels.

I'll third the Stohlquist Fisherman. It does have pockets...and may be a little bulkier than you envision. But, it is comfortable - I rarely remember that I have it on -- and it is extremely well made. It is the only PFD I've ever owned, and except for being a little dirty, it performs like new -- the zippers, straps, etc are still perfect going into my fourth year of heavy use.

I have difficulty punching while seated in my kayak. The only other thing that comes to mind is bigger jigs in heavy cover. It may be partly because my heavier rods have long handles, which are a challenge in the yak. Not really related to seat height, but true patient, finesse fishing, especially dead sticking, is harder just because any breeze or current makes boat position much harder than in a boat.

I'm a rather lazy and neglectful sort...but I do maintain my reels a little - Spinning - I take the spool, handle, and handle cap off; clean with alcohol; apply reel oil and reassemble. Never anything more unless there's a problem. Baitcasting - I use http://fish.shimano.com/content/sac-fish/en/home/customer-service/reel-maintenance-instructions/_jcr_content/bodycontent/download_0/downloadFile/file.res/Maintenance Tips - Conventional Reels .pdf and clean and oil/lube about twice a year. Every two or three years I send them out for deep cleaning. I recommend Mike (DVT.)

Funny....I haven't had a strong urge to use weedless ned heads. I fish some extraordinarily woody water....and I hang a lot of lures (don't even ask about blade baits) but I don't hang neds as much as I worried I would. Now, I don't throw them into thick cover far from the boat.....but it seems that the 'gentle', mostly up and down presentation keeps the points from getting buried in wood a lot better than I expected.

I've tried and discarded a lot of knots. I still rely on more than a couple, but try to keep it simple: line/spool: Arbor line/leader: Alberto braid/lure: Palomar mono, fluoro, copoly/lure: San Diego Jam rare, but good know: Loop knot/Rapala When I considered switching to Alberto (and to SDJ), I practiced for hours while sitting in front of TV or while pretending to listen to someone converse.... True story: I tried learning the palomar from drawings and it took a long time to occur to me to feed the line back through the eyelet (I still remember that light bulb flipping on)... doubling it over and trying to thread the loop is a lot harder...trust me

I'm looking for a regional holy grail: -good smallmouth fishing -yak accessible -very preferably NOT a float trip; I'd like to find water I can paddle up and float back alone (or with wife) without depending on two or more vehicles -within a couple hours of DC area We've float-tripped South Fork Shenandoah; everything between Low Water Bridge and Front Royal and love it. I've never been on upper Potomac, upper Rapahannock nor James, nor Susquehanna. I've looked into upper Rapahannock and think it'd be awesome, but doesn't seem to be too many in/out options. I'd love to find the holy grail where I can put in, paddle up comfortably and and catch lots of huge smallies If you know of such a place, please let me know....pm, if preferred.

Refurb or not, you could do a LOT worse than one (or 2) 7'MHF Veritas 2.0 for the things you've described. It was a very good rod at $100. It is a fantastic rod at $60. Will work for everything you mention in Combos 1 and 2 in OP. May be a little stiffer than other rods in the 7'MHF sphere, but not by a lot...and sensitivity is surprisingly good. Not sure what the 'tip issues' are...I lost the insert from original tip of my 7MHF.....but....I'll grudgingly admit that I was trying to free a lure from a tree branch, using the rod like a lure retriever at the time. I will NOT assess blame to AG for that prize maneuver.
