You might like the Shimano Metanium w shallow spool. It comes in at under 6 oz. It does have an aluminum drive gear, mines paired up with a GLX rod.. Reel is 8.0:1 it’s sweet and throws the lighter baits better than the new Metanium. The whole ideal behind the shallow spool was to cast lighter baits, not exactly like a BFS reel, but just lighter rigs, 1/8 to 3/8 is its rating. If you order from Japan , asian portal is who I use. Save money buy from Japan.

What’s up with the line lay? Did you overfill the spool? There’s not going to be much if any line lay option on an ultra light reel.

Been using this rod and it’s worth every penny and then some. I was also using my GLX 892c and it’s impossible to tell the difference in feel. I wrote Trey an Email and he responded in 5 minutes. Looks like I’m gonna spring on a Nitranium next. There will likely be a new rod blank for the Nitranium possibly by January. I can strongly recommend this rod.

I asked earlier what pound test YH you were using, I don’t believe you have stated that thus far, I will tell you plainly if you induce heat into your knot when tying you’re going to break off.. since it’s at your hook it’s likely your knot. The reason I ask what pound test, is that this is problematic in lower test lines, mono is not exempt but fc line hates heat.. nonetheless, never hurts to try new line… or new rods, new reels 🤣

I’ve been using it for 20 years.. I always wet my knots and they hold on 99% of hook sets. Are you using a light line hybrid? If it’s not working for you then I can’t blame you for trying a different line.

Appreciate your comments, I’ve been using the new rod already and I’m very happy with it. I’d say the ML/F rating is spot on. I’m glad I bought it from him rather than spring for a GLX or NRX. But I’m still going to see if Trey can build me something on a Point Blank or even a NFC blank.. this will be a replacement MH/F rod for me. He’s got that Nitranium rod line where he uses an American made rod blank but he doesn’t say who makes it. I respect Trey but if I’m going to pony up 450 on a rod he’s got to tell me 😂

Bro, unless you ordered it from Japan, return it and get another copy. That is my advice.

I think you’ll have to prove that statement conclusively before I’ll believe you over Doug Hannon & his exhaustive research of the Largemouth bass. While I’m at it you wouldn’t suppose that their could be other factors that might explain your personal experience with the Senko, things like environmental conditions/changes in water pollution, states blasting weed killer in the waterways, increasing fishing pressure and a myriad of other factors.. If you haven’t studied Doug’s work I’d highly recommend it. Best wishes going forward. 🙂

I use an Edge 7’ two piece rod. It’s a light/fast. It has a carbon grip and titanium guides, it’s a sweet rod. The only two piece I own. I have a Vanford 2500 on it w 4 pound CX line. Gary’s wait time is 3 to 5 weeks though..

Well, I can pretty much guarantee if you trade that reel in on a Shimano you’ll catch waaaaaay more Bass. 🤣 Amen. It’s still my number 1.
