  1. Way cool to hear about BR members meeting up! I'm fishing a Texas BASS nation event this weekend on Toledo Bend. I'm not sure if any BR members are fishing it. Maybe one will see this and we can get together for dinner or swap notes from prefishing. Planning on getting there Thursday and getting on the water for half a day Thursday and all day Friday for a good prefish! Fishingmickey
  2. I just finished perusing the Academy web site. Falcon is one brand I didn't think of that makes a excellent rod. Fenwick was another. Good luck in your search. I looked at the pic of the SLX and it looked like a much nicer rod. FM
  3. Both would probably be fine. I'd lean SLX before Fury. That's just my opinion, I felt the Fury rods are heavy (weight wise) or the one's I have handled. You might also see if they have the Diawa Aird X. It's is another spinning rod that is very nice at a budget price. FM
  4. Kevin, Use your drag. The weakest link in your chain from you to the fish is the light wire hooks your using. You said your using 50# braid to a 15# leader. If that leader is Yozuri hybrid or Berkley big game or several of the other manufactuers. They say it is 15# but it really is anywhere from 17-20# breaking strength. Adjust your drag! Try experimenting. Go hook your hook to a fence post of something unmovable and see how much force it takes to bend it. Then turn your drag down until it slips before the hook bends. That should get you close. If your fishing heavy cover and want to winch the fish straight in. Lock down your drag, ditch the leader and ski-em in. Good luck! FM
  5. Naw, just 36 volt and 50-75 AH would do it. FM
  6. That is electric by the way and my kayak is rated for it..... FM
  7. Catt, beat me to it... Beetle Spin 1/8 oz. Original floating Rapala #5 (the little one) 1/16 oz. 3.5" Keitech EZ shiner, 1/0 or 2/0 Gammey EWG hybrid hook, weightless Finesse worm, Robo, KVD Fat baby or finesse, Yumm. 4 or 5" on a 1/16 oz Owner EWG jig head (1/16 or 1/8). 4" ring worm w/1/8 bullet and 2/0 gammy round bend wire hook. 8. Yes, I have seen the theory of relativity in Bass fishing. My catching is relative to the accuracy of my casting. Also E=MC² The energy (E) of my lure hitting the dock, tree or side of the boat equals the Mess (M) of the birds nest compounded (C) twice as bad (²). Fishingmickey
  9. 50# braid is about the same as 14# mono. But if you decide to throw a frog or flip or pitch a jig into heavy cover it will work just fine. FM
  10. Go with the 74SV unit. for the extra 150 you get a ton more features. Just some food for thought. I've attached a link to Garmin's website that tells what the beam or cone angle is for which transducer. You want to find your transducer on there and note what your beam/cone angle is. Imagine you take that angle and drew it out on a flat surface and that will tell you how much bottom your seeing in regards to depth. I hope what I've said makes sense and helps you understand what you'll see better on your screen. FM https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=k5DbKA3w589v1U71ylHZY8
  11. Maybe a 8 or 9. I do have FFS. I fish tournaments and try to get some dock walking in when I don't have the kayak with me. I am in the build process with my second kayak. Nucanoe Pursuit with a motor guide XI-3. FM
  12. I'd hammer both Fed-EX and who you purchased them from. And still go buy another couple of rods just to show'em! FM
  13. She will come visit when you least expect it. Absolutely gorgeous pictures and beautiful fish! FM
  14. I have a couple, first one was in high school. We were on a field trip and had stopped at the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife refuge ( I think that is the right one ). To cut to the chase, my best friend and I decided to scale the 60' or so cliff by the river. It was pretty climable. We both made it up easily and then when I stood up at the top of the cliff. My foot slipped in some loose sand. I fell off the cliff backwards. I turned a somersault while falling backwards and screaminng Ohhhhh Shoot. I landed smack on my backside on a slope of sand with my face about 6" from a 6-8" pine tree and my legs straddling the tree with absolute no damage done. Second time was when I flipped my Triumph TR7 end over end. I had fallen asleep driving home from work (late night) and went through a Farm to Market road "T "intersection. I woke up just as I was entering the intersection. I steered just enough to just missed a cluster of sign posts and telephone pole. The nose of the car hit the ditch and I think the car cartwheeled twice end over end. I cleared the barb wire fence without damaging it. The car ended up a 168' off the road upside down. I had a hell of a bloody nose. I remembered seeing blades of grass against the wind shield while my face was pressed against it.
  15. Your fine, do not let Ska4fun's Shimano bashing get into your head. He has been doing that for a long time. FM
  16. Katy, I'm already looking forward to my annual trip to Maine. I hope to get in three solid days of fishing again. China lake has been great fishing for me. Not sure if it is gonna be China again this year or Cobboseccontee (speel) or Magontacook. But I have never gotten 37 bass of the size your posting in three hours. Scale back on the pic's if ya want, But I very much do enjoy seeing your pictures. Fishingmickey
  17. Well Andy, From what I can tell. there isn't a whole lot of fresh water period within 40 minutes driving from Seabrook. Google maps doesn't show much at all. Lake Houston looks like a maybe, But I haven't heard squat about it. Lake Conroe is probably a hour to a hour and a half away, I'm guessing. Steinhagan and Livingston are further but might have some decent bass fishing. I know that's no help within your 40 minute drive parameter. I seem to also remember some you tuber that Bass fished out of the storm sewer system in Houston. Having Houston there really corks you. This might be a maybe: Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center Fishingmickey
  18. I'm old school, I use mostly fluorocarbon on my bait casters. I use the improve clinch knot. The Trilene or Berkley knot is the same knot except it passes through the eye twice. Alton Jones Sr. recommended/s six turns and I have found this works great for me when tying the improved clinch knot. FM
  19. Nope, we just be stingy about whom we give it too... FM
  20. One of the things the photo judges look for is markings. Most bass are pretty uniquely marked. The fish has to face left so it would be the same side shown. That would be a pretty easy one for the judges to catch. FM
  21. Being a long time tournament kayak fisherman. I take pride in my pictures making sure that my pictures are clear and accurate. A cheater is as despised and ostracized in the kayak world as I am sure is the case in the power boat sector. The examples above just really seem to paint a picture that all kayak tournament fisherman are less Corinthian then other tournament fisherman. I just hate to see the few bad examples coming up repeatedly whenever cheating is mentioned and tarnishing the entire group. Fishingmickey
  22. Crickety, Ya beat me to it! Beautiful fish, Gimruis! FM
  23. Ya think them walleye fisherman getting caught would have educated them up. Stupid is as stupid does. FM
