  1. Since we've de-volved into the Fluorocarbon debates. I'll take the OP's original tangent. I've used Big Game on my light (20-40#) Salt inshore/offshore fishing. The thing about Big Game and "how strong" it is is because of the untruth in packaged marked lb test ratings. 8# breaks at 12#'s, 12# breaks at 16#'s. And it's because it's diameter is thicker. Yo-Zuri hybrid is the same in it's untruthful labeling. But all said and done, fisherman like a strong line that doesn't break, stands up to some abrasion and can hold a knot. Before Fluorocarbon and Braid (30 years ago?). I almost exclusively used Berkley XL 14# for Bass fishing. My spinning reels would get 8 or 10lb XL depending on what set up I was using. But if your just wanting to use a "Good" line that has proven itself over the test of time and is very, very affordably priced. Berkley started the Trilene line brand in the same year as AJay, MN fisher and myself were born. Stren came out about that same time I think. I won't go into my thoughts and experience Fluorocarbon. But I have tried many different brands. I use three different brands of Fluorocarbon. Seguar Tatsu, Seguar Invisx and Diawa Samurai are the only three that have made the varsity line squad on my combo's.
  2. The above statement about the chest waders just isn't true. I feel pretty strongly about this. I speak from personal experience. I've flipped and filled mine up. Once they filled with water it was just pretty much swimming with your clothes on. They didn't drag me down like chained cinder blocks or cement overshoes. Panic is what kills. Now, the hard part was once I got to shore was getting out. I had to roll myself out of the water and lay down on the bank and raise my feet up to drain the chest waders. It would have made the best of fails video for you tube. FM
  3. Kinda looks like a bride abutment and the second shot looks like a suspension bridge. FM
  4. Looks fine, cool set up! Sounds like your under powered. Take your little son, daughter, niece or nephew someone who weighs less then a hundred pounds and see if they can get it up on plane. FM
  5. Not being able to go when the weather says go and having the wrong boat. By that I mean having the kayak out when I should have the sailboat out and vice versa. Also having to quit when they are on the chew. FM
  6. x2 on the Neutrogena the 70 spf or the 100 spf. I also cover up like a Arab. Usually applied to face and neck before fishing. one coat does the trick. The Texas sun can be very brutal and figure in the reflection factor from being on the water. It will flat out dessicate you. I had to have a chunk (18mm x 13mm x 4mm) of Basil cell carcinoma removed from my face. Don't think that because your young and get tanned easily that skin cancer won't get you. If you look in the mirror and see that "racoon" tan lines from your sunglasses. Your doing damage. The cancer just doesn't show up till your older and it can keep showing up.
  7. This is beginning to feel like trolling. I'm sure you'll catch a few. FM
  8. Sounds like the right thing to do. Someone else can figure out what to do with it.
  9. Probably be good for throwing small weighted swim baits, finesse worm/jig, underspins, weightless plastic. Small crankbaits. FM
  10. I have heard/read of something similar to this being done except they used toothpaste on the gears and ran it with a drill to polish the gears. Then disassembled, cleaned it, reassembled and lightly greased. FM
  11. Fish to your strengths, map study (Navonics web app). Keep it simple. FM
  12. Teach her how to drive the boat, Got electronics? Get her involved in how you look for fish. Tie on a popper and find some willing bluegill and small bass to "blow up" her popper. Whopper plopper? Pack a picnic lunch, maybe a bottle of wine and some finger foods. The restroom comments are spot on, shade golf umbrella? Spinning rod, weight less fluke. bucket of minnows and a school of Crappie. Keep it light and fun! Good luck, FM First date, she out fished you, your now married. Big help.
  13. Very Important, being a fellow big guy I have learned that small (under 12') narrow kayaks can be very unstable when you get your upper body (center of gravity) much off of center line. Your kayak will squirt out from underneath you like a bar of soap and leave you swimming in the blink of an eye. Don't ask me how I know. FM.
  14. KYK, I remove mine every time. It is easy to do and the 1103AC weighs about 33lbs (15.3 Kg). It's very easy to remove. One lever unlocks it from the motor bracket. My trailer will bounce with the kayak going over almost any kind of bump/pot hole/railroad track. That 33lbs hanging off the back end in either the up or down position would generate some pretty good forces. One thing experience has taught me is to be careful of (IMHO) is attaching the motor power cord to the battery. It's plastic threads that are pretty fine and can easily be cross-threaded. So take the extra couple of seconds to make sure it is properly threaded and don't force it. I screw it backwards till I feel the threads seat properly then tighten. Regards, FM
  15. Unless your wanting BFS. Since your thinking Shimano think about the Bantam or Metanium. I really think they are in a class by themselves. I think the frame construction makes them super solid and they are very smooth. FM
  16. Lazy Ike (Orange with black spots) and a Daredevil Midget (classic red and white striped) were two of my Dad's favorite's. A Heddon Dying Flutter (Baby bass color) caught my first truly big limit of bass. FM
  17. You might want to look at the Dobyn's Colt, Shimano Sellus or Convergence. The Diawa Arid is also a very nice rod for the money. All the above are well under a hundred, FM
  18. I have traveled to Maine several times with my fishing gear. Multiple travel rods and a carry on with the reels and tackle. I get the personal inspection almost every time too. But no issues or being told that I couldn't bring them. FM
  19. I am blessed to have a significant other that understands. She can tell when I am "under fished". She also puts up with my worm sorting. I consider myself very lucky. Fishingmickey
  20. My ex used to speed up to a stop sign or stop light. Yaaah, brakes took a beating. FM
  21. I may have to swing by Dick's this evening. FM
  22. Rage craw that has been in the water a couple of months and seriously swollen. FM
