  1. Not a fun suggestion for a tackle junky site but use the 822DSR. I don't think the 7' light is going to bomb cast it more than a 6'-10 and the 822 would work fine as ned rod. I did own the old 7' expride Light + and its a nice rod. The previous gen was very light power .
  2. I have a little Shimano 1000 Sahara on my ultralight set up and its been perfect. Not a single complaint.
  3. Tatula AGS, Expride, Daiwa BLX, St. Croix LTB
  4. Like them both. Not much difference in my opinion. I fished the previous Nasci pretty hard and also own the Miravel. Both solid choices.
  5. I always spool my line the old fashion way for spinning. Spool, reel installed on a rod (line through a few guides), a pencil, and my toes.
  6. I'd be looking at Expride, St. Croix LTB, or Daiwa Tatula AGS models.
  7. 7'-6" ML XF SC avid 3" swim bait with 1/4 oz. head close 2nd a 5" senko
  8. Are the new orochi rods supposed to hit the US this yr?
  9. For me (spinning) models in the LT series are more comfortable. The elite rods are a little more sensitive and light but have very uncomfortable locking nuts and seats in my opinion. If they update the elites soon to a similar grip that might change it for me. The new LT rods are a home run. I have both casting and spinning on the rod rack.
  10. If these didn't fly under the radar they would be sold out not discontinued. BLX rods were killer too and not many people fished those either.
  11. I feel like a few yrs back I looked into patching an old Shimano as well. I may have tried Sally's 'hard as nails' but it won't look perfect. It will keep it from getting worse though. Someone might have a better option.
  12. How do you like the new Avid?? OP, I have enjoyed the stradic. Just a bulletproof reel and has a very solid feel. The vanford is super light but not always wanting a reel that light on setups. Just depends on what you are using if for. Stradic is a great inshore/SW reel too. Double duty
  13. I owned one Alx but wasn't a fan of the locking nut. Shimano or Kistler out of those would be my choice.
  14. I fish jerkbaits 90% of the time and what I have found is some rods that seem right for it at a medium power are not and some ML rods can be depending on manufacture. Most MH rods seem too powerful but at the same pt. some baits are 1/2 oz - 5/8 oz and overpower most ML rods. I prefer a medium power stick that is powerful for a medium but fast action. A couple options for you below. St. Croix Medium Fast (like the 7'-0" length for casting) G. Loomis 842 - small jerkbaits Shimano Expride M Fast - spinning or casting Shimano Expride Glass might work too
  15. Daiwa tatula 7-1 ML or 7-6 ML/M
  16. I know guides were tough to get a yr or so back. Are all guide manufactures overseas? Wish someone would catch that market here. Seems like with all the manufacturing options these days those could be punched out easily. What do I know.
  17. You can only match a Shimano reel to a Shimano rod.
  18. I have no dog in this fight but if a manufacture is fixing issues or taking care of their customers that is good to hear. Seen a lot of manufacture defects on rods and reels (many brands) and as long as they take care of it I'll be back. St. Croix has always tried to push the envelope on design and that's awesome in my opinion. Their new avid and LT series rods are favorites right now.
  19. I gave all 2024 fishing funds to the big guy.
  20. I know guys that fish these exclusively even though they have 10 tackle boxes of lures. I've caught some nice bass on them as well. Great river bait.
  21. spinning - a mile baitcaster - 20 ft.
  22. Hey CC, a St. Croix Medium is much more powerful. I have fished and own both. The Loomis 842S for instance can toss up to 3/8 oz. and I have fished with 1/2 oz. but that is pushing it. The St. Croix can easily throw 1/2 oz. The Loomis is almost a ML or ML + if that makes sense. The 842S is a favorite for sure though. It's very versatile.
  23. That one doesn't seem to be working today.
