What determines the size bait you pick??
That’s my general thought and action too. Smaller baits are pretty much my confidence and what I start with. Neat to hear others approach though.

What determines the size bait you pick??
So what determines if you flip a 3.5 inch creature vs a 5inch? Or a finesse cut jig vs a full skirt? What do you use to help dictate that decision?

How to know what the fish are feeding on
Look for dead crawfish on the bank. Bluegill or other panfish in the water. Stuff like that. Google what’s native in the waters near your area

Length of the Average Fishing Trip
Generally 1.5-2 hrs before I go to work. 2-3 days a week. Maybe once a month I get out early on a Saturday morning. Or in the evening. Work and a lil kid and the wife keep me busy lol. I wish I could spend more time on a trip. I wouldn’t feel so pressured in a way. And have more time to try different things and such.

Zoom ultravibe worm
I love the gamakatsu super line hooks. But have been considering trying owner or Trokar. I just can’t seem to find a straight shank worm hook I like

Zoom ultravibe worm
The grass at one of the insane fish has come in real thick and the scum has subsided. I was literally thinking a 3/8 would be great. I tried a 3/16 with a uv worm and a baby d bomb. It just wasn’t a fast enough fall. But I didn’t wana re rig this morning.

Zoom ultravibe worm
It really is a deadly bait. I need to try some of the magnum size though. And the 3/16 unpegged is perfect weight I think. It did better than a 1/8th.

$100-150 Rod Options
I absolutely love my falcon lowrider. The swim jig rod has become one of my favorites for swim jigs, light bottom jigs, Texas rigs. I’m actually looking to replace a Daiwa tatula xt with a low rider all around fast. Because I can’t stand the rod. But maybe I need to look at a headturner!!!

Zoom ultravibe worm
Way to legitimize my complaint!!!!! lol!!! That’s actually pretty good idea @Pat Brown That’s the plan. I have a local spot to me that has very similar to that grass structure!

Zoom ultravibe worm

How do I know when the spawn had ended?
Ohh welp see I’m no help. lol. That is cool. Wow. Water temps may not even be high enough yet then. What always weirded me out. And I get it. Its nature. is how they all don’t spawn at the same time. Some are early some are late. One pond or lake is done but another isn’t. Pretty neat stuff really

How do I know when the spawn had ended?
Are blue gill up shallow and very abundant? That’s usually a sign. And the ragged out bloody fish is a sign as well. Here in Iowa we are through the spawn. I went out this weekend. The bite has died off a lot and we got a cold front. That’s not helping. But they are tired. And blue gill have moved up now and on beds. They are everywhere.

Zoom ultravibe worm

Zoom ultravibe worm
Had a rain and wind storm blow through this morning and will continue off and on all week. A zoom ultravibe in black/blue and a 3/16 unpegged sinker did the job today. Slow dragged or just swam off the bottom. It was a miserable 20 mph wind for the hour I was there. But caught a ton of 1 pounders

How’s everyone spring going??
Oh man I’m sorry to hear that!!!! I hope things get better soon. She had a mild winter here in Iowa with only one blizzard and a couple small ice storms. Are you all still cleaning it up? Nice! Glad to hear that!! Ahh I do miss living in Florida and fishing for speckled trout and reds sometimes.

How’s everyone spring going??
Weather kinda finally hit stable here in Iowa. I’ve had some hot streak mornings. 15-20 fish in a couple hours. Al 1-2 pound fish. I found my biggest really early spring and after that just been average. But I’d rather catch all day than get skunked!! ponds and lakes near me started to scum up and grass in. Which was nice to have cover to fish. Welp they treated a bunch of them and killed it all off lol. So as the ponds right near the house got good. Welllllll

Latest Catch Pics Thread
My daughter had a birthday party today. The community library is 5 mins from there. So I dropped her off and headed over there. Only had about an hour. It’s been windy the last two days. Steady 15-20 with larger gusts. Nice lake behind the place. A couple fly fisherman out. The water was like chocolate milk though. I figured great day for a spinner bait. I threw a war eagle finesse spinner bait around for a while no strikes. Could see bluegill all over. Finally on the way back to the truck I walked the bank with a white swim jig. Finally got this guy literally dragging the 5/16 swim jig slow on the bottom. Never actually felt him bite. Just load the rod.

Bank fishing pack set up
That’s the only Dilemma I have. Early early spring I’ll throw a jerk bait. Maybe a lipless crank. And possibly in summer a popper or walking bait. Other than that. I just don’t fish treble hook baits much because everywhere I’ve ever fished is a jungle by April or may lol
