Yes it is. But I have never found it to be really bad. Probably because I use thicker braid and retie if frayed.

The thicker braid is used to prevent backlash and dig in. It also has more abrasion resistance.

100 percent correct. I also glue my tag end. What brand of braid is that ? What pound test. Your braid is backlashing and you aren't noticing it and your reeling over it. Whatever that is pull it off and put Sufix 832 50lb test on it and pay attention to when it backlash. What reel is it and what type of brakes.

I use 50 lb braid at least on a baitcaster. Been using braid since the early 90s and never had this happen. It's caused by line dig and backlash loops but even when I did have my line stop it never snapped.I don't believe in using anything lighter than 50 lb.. Also stick with Sufix 832.

That stiffness with the shape is why they glide.

Cool.mines a 6.2 for deep cranks. Thinking of getting a 7.5 for lipless.

Yes I keep my drag tight but I'm using 50lb braid. I set it approx 12 lbs. Drag has no effect on casting.

Maybe you don't have the spool seated. Did you pull the cover to tie your line on it ? First you hold the rod straight out and push the button down and tighten the spool tension knob so your lure drops slowly. You do this for every different lure you use. When the lure hits the ground the spool should stop. Next is the centrifugal brake with the dial on it. Start at ten and reduce click by click. Learn to use your thumb.cast with your reel 90 degrees to the ground. This reduces centrifugal force. Cast with your wrist not your arm. Don't force it for distance. The brakes on that reel will cast far without backlash and no thumb. IMHO they are the best brakes made and the easiest to learn on.

I just bought my first pack in 25 years. Don't know why I ever stopped using them. I caught plenty of fish on them and they are easy to use. You never know they may be awesome seeing as almost nobody fished them anymore.

There is a wide variation in quality in the 200$ and under rod catagory. You can buy a boat patriot with a ten year warranty and titanium sic guides or a st Croix with cheap aluminum oxide guides. you can buy a Dobyns with alconite guides and a lifetime warranty. Bps also makes the jm signature series with alconite guides. It's a great rod for 159.99 with a ten year warranty. There are plenty of decent rods at this price point that you don't have to settle for cheap guides. Dobyns are some of the best balanced rods out there.The Classic was won on BPS Carbonlite rods and reels. They are 200$ for a combo.
