  1. I buy filler spools. I open the box and pull the line to the back side coner of the flap. I close the flaps and put the box between my knees while sitting and reel the line on. Kind of like how the power pro easy spool box used to be.
  2. I can never understand why anybody would complain about getting something for free. Perfectly shows the entitlement mentality of society today.
  3. Rough night tonight. Only one northern.
  4. For us Bears fans we just know that Sunday afternoon is time to mow lawn.
  5. You may end up having many issues with 20lb braid on a baitcaster. Mainly line dig digging in and trouble casting. You want to have a line diameter of 10 lb mono to about 20 lb mono on that reel for best results. I would look at getting a 50 lb braid and using that. Loosen the drag a little bit and you are ready to go. As far as a knot I use a uni knot on everything I tie with no issues. I hear a lot of guys here say use a Palomar knot. Look up either one on you tube to see how to tie it correctly. Sounds like whatever knot you are using is slipping through and untying.
  6. I have read post after post from you sir. You always have great advice. You should be charging for your services on here. Hope you are still around if I have issues with my older merc.
  7. As many have said, start off small. I bought a 1976 boat with a 1976 merc 500 thunderbolt. The engine was terrible but the hull was sound as can be. When I was testing it, to me it seemed like it was starving for fuel. I took the cover off and pumped the primer bulb and watched fuel spray out the hose. I replaced all fuel lines and fittings and it runs like new. So I spent $750 on boat and $9 on parts and now I am fishing. Start off small to get you going. It has a hardly used min kota power drive that will go on next boat purchase along with finders. This will bring costs down for next one. I figure I can get at least a couple of years out of it before I move into something nicer. It floats and gets me off the bank.
  8. Always guess low but gave it a try.
  9. Believe it or not, my son snagged a big cat in the side with a jig.
  10. Nice. Great opportunity he had.
  11. I can attest for that. I worked for OMC engineering department back in 1994. All kinds of interesting things went on back then. That was the time when ficht was just being introduced and worked with. Some of the experimental power heads that were there were outrageous. Tags and covers were easy to change as needed.
  12. Bps Johnny Morris signature series. $139
  13. Lot lizard ha. Have not heard that term is a long time. Underwear on the dash will stop those lizards.
  14. Awesome news. Very happy for you
  15. Search helicopters over my house now
  16. Been following all day. I work for county and we had lock downs all over. This is so sad and my heart goes out to the Lt Gliniewicz's family. I hope they catch the guys that did this and bring them to justice. Hope all the officers involved in the ongoing hunt stay safe. Many heat issues for them today. Support for all.
  17. Lost 5 jigs and 3 trig plastics to pike in the last 3 days. Annoying.
  18. My 76 merc was same way. All new fuel lines and good to go. Runs like new.
  19. Try throwing a jig past the ledge and work it back letting it fall down the ledge.
  20. Is this sunfish hearing the worn out reel or the vibrations of the spinner bait? Or is this sunfish just wondering what is breaking the surface of the water. If stealth is the key then forget casting anything into the water because that will make more noise than anything entering the water.
  21. Is that in the channels? Are they coming in already?
  22. With all of the light weight reels out, most of them have some sort of carbon, plastic side plate. This type of material will not stop the natural sound emitted from gears that are working properly. You are going to hear noise from the gear box. A slight noise is fine but if it is loud, you can feel it in the handle, and it is harder to reel than there is an issue. Otherwise it is just the nature of the beast.
  23. Found this on the internet. they are designed for japanese ISO fishing. ISO fishing is primarily a style of rock fishing utilising long soft rods (mine is 5.3metres - full graphite only weights 275gms), bobby floats and very light line (4-10 lbs main depending on your rod). The purpose of the lever drag is that it kind of replaces the reverse switch on most threadlines. Y u may ask. Two main reasons, the first being that this form of fishing relies of tiring the fish out through the long soft rod. However because of the high risk of line breakage whilst on the rocks ISO fishing need a system of a controlled 'free spool' if the fish decides to swim away from the edge e.g. Drummer fishing being a classic example. This allows the angler to play the fish with greater confidence. Second reason is that the lever allows the angler to release line without having to open the bail arm. Luderick fisherman would recognise this as a great feature especially as it allows you to control the drift of the float more effectively - almost like using a centrepin reel.
