  1. That is even worse than skipping your cousins wedding to go on a fishing trip with your buddies. Disclaimer: skipping cousins wedding to go fishing will get family members upset with you.

Being able to sit for the CPA and doing it are 2 different stories. I may do it and I may not but it is alot of work. And the answer like riskkid said is YES. If you are in sales or self employed it is hilarious the things that people write off. Now if you use that boat for entertainment purposes, talk to your accountant because I am not one, and not sure I want to be one.

Somehow I did it in 4 years although I was the first in my family to go to college(no guidance or help) and I also went to 3 different schools. But most of my friends took more than 4 years and some are going on 7 (not doctors or lawyers). THe trick is to enjoy it and go at whatever pace you can. I got lucky that I didnt have to study so I normally had 17-18 hours and I took a summer or winter term every year. The benefit was senior year I only had 13 credits 1st semester and 12 my last semester, which meant more partying. Just get it done, dont stop and start, because all too often people dont start back up. That being said most people dont have 139 hours to get their undergrad degree, but I am only 11 hours away from being able to sit for the CPA so thats a plus.
  4. Braid slips when put directly on the spool. To fix this you put mono on first then tie some braid on to the mono. It is also a way to use cheaper line to fill up the spool. You can also use tape to keep braid from slipping. Tie your knot on the spool then take electrical tape and put it over the braid to secure it from slipping. You need to do one or the other or it will be a mess if you can even get it to recover line.
  5. They can do it because they have a bulk mail permit/certificate. But it does cost them money so find a way to tell them you dont want anything to do with it. Send it back with a note, something quirky, etc. or you can just throw them in the shredder everytime it comes.
  6. I fish mainly ponds and the baits I use 90% of the time are spinnerbaits(especially murky water), t-rigged worms, something like a horny toad, buzzbaits, and then an occassional jerkbait. If not many people fish these ponds they will often bite a variety of baits. They can be 'stupider' but it is still fun as hell catching them. My firs advice is to figure out the bottom contour with a t-rig, jig, or carlina rig. This while be a big help. One thing I am doing this year also (we have safe ice) is putting structure on top of the ice (rocks, sticks, xmas trees) which will give me some good structure to fish come open water. And just because they see you, you can still catch them. My last advice is where natural colors, brown, green, blues, that sort of thing. Red and white are not good colors from experience. Go have fun and let us know how you do. Corey
  7. Just to clarify I am not looking at the Scorpion MG, just the regular Scorpion.
  8. I know there are other current threads about the revo and dont want to be reptitive but I am looking at one of these 2 reels for my tax return purchase. They are similarly priced, and I was set on getting the scorpion but now I have heard so many good things about the Revo S that I am contemplating that reel. If anyone has used both I would welcome responses. I fish mostly ponds, like higher gear ratios (6.3:1) and use alot of spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, t-rigs. Thanks in advance, and RW I know go SHIMANO. Corey
  9. Now that is what I call a boat!!! Congratulations Robert and I wish you many good days on the water.
  10. I know guys that use cutbait(bluegill and crappie heads) in Iowa and have had very good luck, even through the ice.
  11. They were all 10-12.5 inches and very fat. I normally dont clean them unless they are 12 inches but I havent seen them that fat before. They were very easy to clean and there is more than enough of them.
  12. I do not understand how people differentiate one animal from the other. Bears provide good meat just as do deer, pheasant, turkey, elk, etc. It is something that people enjoy doing and what makes that bear different from a crappie you may catch and keep. Great story and what an accomplishment. Brown bear hunting is one of my many outdoors dreams. Corey
  13. Not afraid of heights, just falling and getting hurt. Buildings, cliffs, planes, dont bug me but roofing a 4 story house use to give me the creeps. Close to RedlineRobert- I hate driving next to a semi crossing a bridge. I live 2 miles from the Mississippi and cross big bridges on a weekly basis and cannot stand driving across the bridge next to a semi. It freaks me out and I slow down or speed up prior to the bridge to avoid this situation.
  14. Well I got out last weekend with Darrin(HawgHunter) and his buddy Brian to do some ice fishing on a pond in southern Iowa. Had a pretty good bite all day and was a nice break from all the hunting I had been doing. Always feels good to get a fish tugging on the end of a 24 inch rod, even if it is a panfish. Heres a few pics caught alot of nice gills and kept 10 nice crappie. This looks like our only fishing option for a while but its better than sitting at home. Corey
  15. Bears 31 Colts 17. After the way the Bears held the Saints in track with the #1 rated offense I think they can hold the Colts. Although the Colts D has played better they are still succeptable to the run game, and that Chicago has. Defense wins championships and the Bears have the better defense.
  16. I normally limit out and I would say 25 fish is a weak day. Granted I fish all day when I go but normal day would probably be 40 fish with a handful over 3 lbs or so. These are all private ponds though that not many people fish. I think some of my worst days were single digit fish.

Anytime a new season starts it is bittersweet. I love the show and the action, but my girlfriend begins to say Jack way too often, and in places where I do not want to hear another man's name.
  18. Some people are what referred to as slow gainers, myself included. I have gotten stronger, put on muscle, but barely gained any weight over 2 years. I have done the high calorie diets but what works best is many small meals, lots of protein and make sure you ingest some good carbs prior to workout and limit your fat intake. I eat chicken and pasta about everyday before working out, or chicken and rice. Have a protein shake before working out and before bed. Otherwise buy the book by Arnold which gives many more pointers. Calories are not always the answer because pop has calories and isnt going to help you get stronger. COrey Disclaimer (I am not nor will I ever be a bodybuilder).
  19. I have the St. Croix Premier in the 6'6" MH F and it is all I use for worms, jigs, tubes, etc. I love this rod and it was my first quality rod and the sensitivity is great for the price. I would highly reccomend it and it can also be used for other applications.
  20. I want to break the 7 lb mark because I have not done it since 04. Although this spring I am going to hit it hard and try and land that Iowa State record. Big dreams but I believe a few bodies I fish could hold one.
  21. Sylvia is a bum, the HW division of the UFC is chumps. Cro Cop will destroy them. Rampage v. Liddel should be good, jackson is a good wrestler. I cant wait for teh infusion of all of these leagues.
  22. Anything that would be half a house payment, I was told wasnt worth it. I started, and still use a cheap shaekspeare that catches fish. For what I do, the money isnt justifiable. For pros or guys that can swing it and not worry about it, why the hell not. Unfortunately I have a lil brother and a nephew to help put through college. But I blaim no one for getting this reel because I would just like 5 casts with it at my best pond. Corey
  23. Mental note: move to Mexico and become a veterinarian. That high dollar Japanese stuff sure looks nice.
  24. JT I was looking at the baby bluegill too and also the baby bass. I have had bigger bass attack dinks before as I was bringing them in I just dont know how effective it would be. Any more testimonials?
  25. I had the same experience as KU. I worked on a golf course and fell in love with golf again, got real serious about it and made almost no money. If I was to work at a hunting and fishing store, forget about it Id be broke. Good luck and ask a manager if they will limit your spending to your paycheck.
