  1. I own each one. There are few I have that I didn't mention that probably could have made the list, like the Bantam, the Zillion HD and the Core 100. I just don't use certain reels for long distance casting and haven't really tested them at my pond like the others. The BB1 isn't a bad caster. It has been finicky for me though and I am constantly adjusting the brakes. I have tried the same 12lb FC on it as well as 10lb Sufix Elite and Siege. It just didn't cast as far as the others. I have cleaned it, soaked the bearings, and it still doesn't perform as well as the rest. Don't get me wrong, I like this reel. I beat it to death last year using it for jerkbaits (110's mainly) on a Megabass Levante Jerkbait Special. Another thing about it that bothers me is the drag. It's pretty jerky at times. It will slip and then tighten up. It's odd but with all that, it does bring in the fish. Also, the way the reel palms is great for working a jerkbait. In the end, I think I only paid about $140 for this reel and I am happy with it but it would not be my first choice for a lot of things.
  2. I use one of these to wrap the line around and for tying leader knots. I've seen too many damaged reels that have been used as winches to pull out a snag to know better than to tighten the drag all the way down.
  3. I received my new Twin Power yesterday and got a chance to test it out. It's a smooth little powerhouse. It pairs perfectly with the P5 Whippet. The retrieve is similar to the Vanquish but that's about it. It's heavier but not much. The drag is tight from the moment a fish hits, unlike the Vanquish which is slow to start. Paired with the Whippet, which has a soft tip and a pretty powerful midsection, it just works. For the JDM price, this reel is a no brainer. This is my first P5 spinning rod though and the reel handle takes some getting use to but once figure out the best hand position, it's fantastic. With the exposed blank touching your hand, it might be more sensitive than a NRX+. If anything, the sensitivity when a fish hits is unique and fun. I will need to fish both of them side by side to get a better sense of their capabilities.
  4. I use YGK Upgrade on my heavy jig set up with a Zillion HD and I have YGK OLLTOLOS on another jig rod. The OLLTOLOS is really good but white. It's slick and peels off the spool easily.
  5. About 20+ feet. I have been using the Metanium 100 on an NRX+ 883 BJR. It loads, for me, better than most rods. The Zillion G has been sitting on Megabass Evoluzion Super Diablo II. Both rods have soft tips and each reel has 12lb Fluorocarbon on it. Both reels are great but the Metanium 100 will just out cast the Zillion. After fishing them side by side on several occasions, I have no complaints with either reel.
  6. That are a lot of factors that go into casting distance.... how the rod loads, reel, line, spool diameter, and so on. The top 10 list in order below is of what I own and it can change based on all of the miscellaneous things mentioned. 1. Shimano Metanium 100 2. Shimano Antares 70 3. Shimano Antares 2012 4. Daiwa Steez A II 5. Daiwa Zillion G 6. Shimano DC 7. Shimano Calcutta Conquest 101 8. Daiwa Steez SV TW 9. Daiwa Costal 80 10. Lews BB1 I use Google Maps to measure at a local pond I visit. The spot marked below is my bench mark for distance with a 1/2oz lure. It's 120 feet from one bank to the other. I can hit that spot easily with the top 6 reels with just about any rod and line.
  7. I have been using a pair from Duluth Trading Company, Dry on the Fly. They are not convertible but get the job done. The best convertible pants I have owned are from Kuhl. I have gotten old and put on a few pounds but years ago these were all I would wear to fish in. They wear like iron. https://www.kuhl.com/kuhl/mens/pants/renegade-cargo-convertible/
  8. Same for me. I bought several packs when they came out and I may have caught one or two fish on them. The concept looks sound but.....
  9. I saw one these on the back of an old Stratos. It was fast and quiet.
  10. Some lakes I fish are so small that boat wouldn't be able to reach to speed or even get on plane. But 500hp, the water better be smooth as glass.
  11. Bummer. I have lost a few over the years. It hurts. It's not only the money loss but I have a personal attachment to most of my gear. I hope all goes well and you enjoy the new equipment.
  12. Great reel. It should be a blast. I have the C2500S and it has been just a pleasure to fish. The drag is second to none. It's probably the best spinning reel ever made. I like it better than the Stellas I have tried (don't own one). 400m of PE #1 is a lot of line. I would definitely put some backing on it. What rod are you putting it on?
  13. @Elezen Freshwater. A lot of their lines are designed for salt but work fine in freshwater.
  14. This thread reminds me that once a year or so I let loose of an idea or lure that has brought in some good ones. So here you go.... 3in Megabass Hazedong Shad in Ghost Shad (this color is the one to use) colored with Dip It Markers. I have several weird combos but at the moment this is the one.
  15. Here is their website. https://xbraidygk.jp/ Here are the ones I have tried..... Ohdragon - Sinking braid. My favorite for Ned Rigs on spinning gear but not as abrasion resistant as others OLLTOLOS PE WX8P-1 - Great jig line. Slick and easy to cast. Only available in heavy sizes. Upgrade - Great all around line. I have used it on both spinning and casting Zone Finesse - Lighter, softer line. Great for BFS gear but it can be finicky Super Jigman - Good all around line. Slightly slicker than Upgrade Unless you're fishing heavy cover (weeds and grass), I would use leader on all of these lines.
  16. Oddly, it's the slicker 8 carrier lines that have worked out for me, with the exception of Varivas Super Trout Advance. It gave me all sorts of knot issues, especially slippage. I mainly use a variety of YGK lines now.
  17. I was skeptical about using this knot on braid but so far, no break offs or issues. I have used it on #0.06 PE line up to 60lb Smackdown. Wetting the line helps a lot.
  18. I use the San Diego Jam knot for everything. I haven't had any issues with knots.
  19. What baits are you looking for? I use Digitaka, Japan Lure Shop, and Asian Portal Fishing but in the US, The Hook Up Tackle is great.
  20. So I ordered the C2000S. It should be fun. I also considered the Daiwa Airity and the Exist. If I did the Airity, I might as well get another Vanquish (seems to be the better reel of the two) and the Exist is awesome but even at the JDM price, it's expensive and more reel than I need for what I want to throw. The Twin Power seems to sit between all the ones I considered. Plus, I was able to get it for about half of what the Exist cost. We will see how it goes.
  21. I have a new Megabass P5 Whippet coming my way. I was able to pick it up new from Japan for pretty much a steal and I am looking for a new reel to put on it. I have the new Vanquish and I also picked up the 24 Certate as well. Both have been fantastic. The new Twin Power has caught my eye but I don't know much about it. Does anyone have one? Any thoughts on this reel? I will be using it for small hair jigs and small paddle tail swimbaits with #0.8 PE braid to leader.
  22. I have not completely made the switch to all braid to leader on spinning gear but I am close. For FC I still use Sunline Sniper Invisible but in 6 and 7lb. I don't tend to go over 8lb on spinning gear. I have tried 10 in a couple of lines over the years and didn't really care for it. For the money, it's hard to beat Invizx though. I used 6lb on spinning gear for years and had no issues. I just tend to like Sniper Invisible better. I am currently using 5lb on BFS gear and have caught some really big fish on it. It always surprises me how well it holds up.
  23. FishTank replied to Ibock's topic in Fishing Tackle
So I was able to test these out and they have positives and negatives. First, I did catch fish with them and they position the hook perfectly. Downside, for every fish I brought in, not only was the bait torn, the plastic holder would be ripped and I would loose the nail weight. I tried it on a senko, Geecrack's G-Crawler, a Trick Worm and a Jackall Flick Shake. They all did the same thing. I caught eight fish and went through eight weights, eight holders and eight worms.
  24. Megabass Baby/BFS Griffon MX or the Z-2. But.... Bassday Mononofu 50S has been my killer smallmouth bait. It's a sinking shad style bait that they can't seem to resist. Extra hooks are almost a must with this bait though. I have caught so many on this bait that the almost all the paint on a few of them have come off.
