Dobyns Champion 735 and Sierra 735
Dobyns has had a heck of a time trying to provide power ratings for their rods. Dealers can’t just post the power and lure/line ratings. Dealers do not have educated and knowledgeable staff with enough product experience to answer a customer question. That is why you hear” call Dobyns directly” so often. I can say that a 3 power is a medium power with a 3/8 oz. sweet spot. A 4 power is a medium heavy with a 1/2 oz. sweet spot. A 5 power is a heavy with a 5/8 oz. sweet spot. A 6 power is a mag heavy with a 3/4 to 7/8 oz. sweet spot. This is for the flag ship Champion series which features each of the powers. Actions will differ between series. When in doubt, call Dobyns. They fish what they sell.

Pre-Making Dropshot Leaders
I pre-tie leaders to assure I have enough for my next outing. But do to clear water, I tie my braid to an 8 foot leader and then the FC leader to very small black barrel swivel. The pre-tied leader is quickly tied to the swivel and trimmed to length. I add the weight, hook my bait and go. I have my pre-tied leaders in little plastic zip lock baggies I got at the craft store. I write a code for hook type, size and test on the baggie and refill them. The change out process is fast and I’ve yet to break off a fish. Line twist is not an issue. I don’t have spot lock so quick retires are a priority to keep from getting blown well off my spot. Works well for me.

Are Norman fat boys made out of balsa wood?
I may have screwed up. Nothing new. Pradco did add Gamakatsu hooks and tweaked some colors.

Are Norman fat boys made out of balsa wood?
It’s Pradco attempting to refresh the branding. The color schemes look to be all old school to me. Regardless, it’s still a good bait. I just upgraded hooks on a bunch of my Normans baits.

5 Power Dobyns for T-Rigs and Jigs
Don’t confuse power ratings and blank actions. Dobyns rods are known for “over rating” the power ratings and come slightly under the stated ratings. The actions however are consistent as a fast is a fast and extra fast an extra fast. The sweet spot for almost all Dobyns 5 power models is 1/2 ounce. The Kadens are xtra fast and lock up pretty quick which is for me a positive with large jig hooks. I think the Kadens fish and perform above their price point. For the applications you listed, the 715C would get my vote. Good luck!?

Favorite Spinnerbait Brand / Series ?
I think I have spinnerbaits from at least nine manufactures and they all have a place. My favorite is the Dobyns Beast. The rest of the starters are Stanley, Revenge, War Eagle and Nichols. I had one trip with a Z Man in a clear water finesse situation and it caught some small mouth. The Zorro short arm is rarely spoken of. I bought a couple Accent Wheeler River Special baits for this spring. Lots of good products out there.

6th Sense Provoke 106X Feedback + Jerkbait Selection 'System'
My picks are Ghost Bone Minnow, Wabi Sabi and Yellow Perch. I’ve had success with Jaint Juice in more of a slightly stained water. Throw in a pearl pattern and go for it.

6th Sense Provoke 106X Feedback + Jerkbait Selection 'System'
I admire your approach to buying the right bait the first time and not falling into the rabbit hole of color options. As a shore fisherman two issues stick out. First is buoyancy and second is cast ability. The ability to reach out and not loose a bait that’s snagged would determine size and brand. After that some color pattern. I have a few Provokes. I have had success with them. They float up at a rate of an inch per second depending on water temperature. They do not cast quite as well as some baits but angle and action are good. It’s a well built bait. When it comes to color patterns, A Jay and Dwight Hottle would be my go to guys. They have it dialed.

That Thing You Do. . . . .
I’m giving it up. I hang a tiny white curly tail crappie grub on the rear treble of my smaller shallow crankbaits. This goes back to the 70’s when I hung em a Spence Scout in black.
