Large Lakes vs Small Lakes
The greatest teacher I’ve had regarding bass is the Columbia River. It opened my eyes to the variations that occur in bass activity from month to month, week to week, day to day and hour by hour. It can be overwhelming at times but it sure is fun and beautiful.

- A love letter to mono
This isn’t your grampa’s mono anymore. Mono technology has come a long way. Sunline Super Natural or Big Game are always in play, especially for moving baits. I hate auto spell!- magdraft freestyle rod?
Perfect Pitch or any 5 power Dobyns.- Thicker hoody for a little more warmth and light wind protection?
Look at HUK and. AFTCO. The AFTCO has a built in vented face covering you can pull down. Both are worth the price.- Why can't I cast far?
Line routed thru the hook keeper?- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
I’ve been lucky on pre owned reels. I’ve picked up several on the BR flea market and was really happy with all of them. I snagged a AA rod from a member and that was also a good experience. Buying upper tier reels used is a good way to go. Rods are tough because of shipping costs. I need to liquidate about a third of my combos.- What the heck?
I was watching the history channel and Foods That Built America. They featured Doritos and explained how the lab used gas chromatography to recreate flavors. But the prop used in the recreation to show a graph was a Lowrance LRG 1510B Truline Recorder. So Doritos Taco flavored chips were developed on the edge of creek channel in 18 feet of water.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
- Reels on AliExpress??
It is a legitimate site. I purchased three Scorpians from them. Delivery takes about two weeks. Be aware that once you complete a transaction with them you will be sent emails daily on promotions.- New Megalodon Blade Bait
Well I’ll vouch for Mike’s products. I’m a fan. Nothing but quality and well thought out design. Sign me up.- Scent
I use that scent that comes in a stick form. I think it’s the Old Spice Kracken. Smelly Jelly Crayfish works better.- Tired of missing Fish? New from Japan.
I saw a kid at the counter working at McDonald’s with the same hardware hanging from her face.- You like Hula Grubs? Try this.
In my neck of the woods, a hula grub is a smallmouth staple. Everyone I know throws them from now to December. A football head jig is the norm. I good friend of mine showed my an alternative rig option and he swears by it. He was fine with sharing it. It’s a form of Neko rigging. Use the o ring tool, insert the collar strand portion in the tube. I turn it as I insert it, wetting it first until I can slide the o ring on the grub body. Position the o ring 1/8 inch behind the shirt or tentacles. Insert a Neko nail weight in the collar center. The key is to use a nail with a bulbous head that is exposed. Hook an extra wide gap finesse hook under the o ring perpendicular to the twin tail. The head of the nail weight clicks when it’s in contact with rocks. The twin tails will stay slightly raised. It’s less prone to wedging in rocks and the hook penetrating is similar to a nose hooked drop shot worm. I use the Dobyns nail weights and throw this rig on a medium action spinning rod, braid to Floro leader. I honestly have only tried this set up for one trip because it is new for me but I hooked the three bites I got on it. I hope it might be an option for you guys and gals. BTW: best with the 4 inch size!- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I caught my pb largemouth on a glide bait and my pb smallmouth on a Rago so these could be interesting.- Lookin for a rod to handle grass jig fishing duties/light frogging
First, there is a two hundred dollar difference. Even though the Xtasy is a nano resin blank, it is not as fast as the 746 and is not a true 5 power in a Dobyns sense. The 746 is just as sensitive in my opinion and I let the 6 power scare me away for years. Big mistake on my part. The tip on the 746 is very active yet the power shows up quick.- What are your 3-5 go to lures for water temps under 50*
Smallmouth: Jerkbait and hula grub Largemouth: Jig and spinnerbait- Lizard baits
I learned many years ago that there will more often or not be a preference by bass as to a shorter wide profile or a longer narrower profile. I rig both types, beaver/craw style and brush hog style and let the fish tell me what they want. If it’s longer/slender I’ll narrow it further and a lizard on a light sinker can be really good. It seems the style planes down rather than drops full vertical. Lastly, a twin tail green pumpkin lizard has been my best Carolina rig bait for smallmouth for ever.- Boat flipping bass
Bass are a resource. Treat treat the resource right and it will treat you right. What’s a selfie?- What line are you using?
Cranks/Jerkbaits get Floro from 10 to 17 depending on the bait and cover. Floro sinks. Small topwater baits get 12 mono. Mono doesn’t sink. Big topwaters get braid with a short leader. Braid floats, no stretch and casts we’ll. Frogs get Heavy braid. No stretch, casts well and CUTS grass and pads. Spinnerbaits and vibrating jigs get Floro from 14 to 20 lb. Jigs and T rigs get Floro from 12 to 20lb. Spinnning get 10/12 Floro with appropriate leader. Sensitive and no line twist. Casts very very well.- Best rod for finesse jigs - around 200
Kaden 743 180.00 NFC Edge Delta MBR 744 ( similar in power to the Kaden but a much better guide set). On sale right now 150.00 but 60 days out for delivery.- '24 Tat 100 vs Zillion
