  1. In past models the 2500 spool would rub against the rotor of the smaller reels. It would be best to just get another 2000 size spool. Only problem is you'd have to order it from Japan since the US doesn't have a 2000 size stradic reel.
  2. Both the 6'10" models seem to have same action. The new model is a little lighter in weight. Fishing side by side, it hard to tell a difference.

I usually use a tiny barrel swivel about 12 inches above my spinner. I use the owner hyper micro barrel swivels. Those things are tiny. I figure the smaller the better. I also use the owner hyperwire snaps at the spinner. It makes it easier to change colors and sizes. I usually use 1/6 and 1/4 oz roostertails for bass.
  4. I also have the 18 bantam in the 5 gear ratio. It's a great reel for spinnerbaits too. I also use it for 1/2 oz chatterbaits. So far the new model doesn't have a 5 gear ratio yet. If shimano comes out with one I may try it out. It seems most companies are getting away from the 5 gear ratios. Even the new reels with the 5 gear ratios are faster than they use to be. A standard use to be 5.0:1. Now most are 5.5, 5.6 or 5.8:1, if they offer a 5 gear ratio at all.
  5. Other than the color and slightly more shallow spool, there was no other difference between the silver version and the regular black Tatula LT. The silver only came in a 3000 size. I do wish they came in more smaller sizes. The Procyon IM LT has the same sliver look in a slightly more heavy package and different knob. It's pretty much an all silver procyon LT. I have one in a 2000 size.
  6. Even shipping at USPS has gone up. Lady there told me anything over 30" is oversized now. Last two rods i shipped out were $38 and $34. That wasn't even going to the west coast. It used to normally cost $17 to $29 only. Shipping cheaper rods is not even worth it anymore.
  7. I've been doing container and raised beds gardening as a hobby for a few years now. Also dabble with flowers and other plants. This year the wife decided she wanted to help out and learn. So far she's really enjoyed it. Since she works from home, it gives her something to do on her breaks and after work in the evenings. She's really enjoyed the eggplants, cucumbers and tomatoes. She says it helps her to relax and get her mind off work.
  8. I have a hand full of daiwa reels but a ton of shimano reels. I have a tatula elite also. I do find the daiwa reels are a little more sensitive to being over spooled than shimano's. Try taking some line off to see if it helps. Also daiwa reels seem to need more braking than shimano's.
  9. I have both the Vanford and Tatula LT. I also have the Stradic CI4+, Complex XR, Ballistic LT, Procyon LT, Daiwa theory. All these reels are great. The tatula and ballistic are pretty much the same reel. The Vanford and the Complex xr are pretty much the same reel. The tatula can usually be found for a much lower price point, which is a great deal. I think you'll be happy with it.
  10. At least the water is warm
  11. Most millipedes are poisonous or taste bad. I tried to feed some of those small reddish ones to a toad once. It would grab them in its mouth but then quickly spit them back out. I then noticed that the millipedes had a foul odor coming from them. That's probably why the toad spit them back out immediately.
  12. I only throw the smaller flicker shads. Usually size 4 up to 7. I own quite a few of them and fish them side to side with shad raps. I'll have to say most of the flicker shads run true out of the box, some need slight tuning. Every once in a while, one will be defective and wont run right or can't be tuned correctly. Those are rare but it does happen. For the most part, most flicker shad run pretty good. The one you found is probably defective or damaged in some way. Not worth the trouble of messing with I my opinion. They are fairly cheap lures, so you could just buy a few new ones to try, if you felt like it,
  13. I own four of the 7' med spinning rods. I use them mainly for float fishing for trout and channel cats. I feel they would do well as a budget bass rod also. I have felt the different models at academy and they all feel pretty good for the price. You can usually get them for cheaper when academy has their 20% off sales. I would hesitate to use them for bass if i needed too. To me the action is between a fast and a moderate fast - but closer to a fast action. I really like the rods and wouldn't have any issues picking up more in the casting or spinning versions. I do feel they fish above their price point.
  14. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits would be my choice, if you plan to fish it. Or just let it sit on the shelf as memorabilia.
  15. If you purchased the reel new just return it for another one. The roughness shouldn't have much to do with the casting distance unless the line roller is bad and causing lots of line twist.
  16. Take it back to Walmart and get something else. If you dont you'll be disappointed everytime you look at it.
  17. Since I've been mainly doing finesse fishing lately. I've just been using spinning gear. I still carry one or two castings setups with me on the boat, but they rarely see any action. I'll throw smaller jerkbaits, poppers, spinners, crankbaits, weightless worms all on my spinning gear. My local lake gets alot of pressure, so lighter tackle helps me catch more fish.
  18. I put my phone into a freezer ziplock bag. My wallet and keys in another. I also write my name and phone number on the bags. I put my house phone number on my cell phone bag also. I usually only do this when i wade fish in rivers. If i drop it, it floats. If it get swept down stream, hopefully someone finds it and contacts me. I can also access my phone through the ziploc bag to check my texts and emails. Unless i get a call or need to take a picture, i dont even need to take the phone out of the bag.
  19. I've never fished lake Lyman but fish Bowen and Blalock all the time.
  20. What's up. I'm in SC too.
  21. I normally use mono for spinnerbaits, so no leadee there. Even when i use braid from spinnerbaits i don't use a leader because the water is normally stained.
  22. Line on a spinning reel will normally develop twist as you use it. The type of lure may encourage line twist due to it spinning back on the retreive. Inline spinners and weightless worms are really bad at creating more than usual line twist. Using a swivel will help. I normally walk out my spinning reel line in my yard either before or after a trip to get the twist out before the next trip. Using line conditioner will also help. I normally spray some KVD conditioner on reel spools before a trip. It does help to keep the line more manageable.
  23. I use to replace the handles on my smaller spinning reels with the longer ones from the next size up. Sometimes i would just buy the T knobs from shimano and replace the smaller knobs with them. Lately I've gotten use to the smaller knobs from shimano and daiwa. I still sometimes replace the daiwa knobs with the cork style I knobs.
  24. I use the trilene knot all the time and usually holds pretty good. I've only had one slip recently because it wasn't clinched down good. I normally leave a longer tag end and it normally works well.
  25. Did you tie the braid directly to the spool? If so, the line could be slipping on the spool.
