  1. You got it- going on my list now. Went through it with my mom 3 1/2 years ago.
  2. Cut the line?... Is this a trick question?
  3. I was able to separate them and they swam off.
  4. It happens. Found these 2 a couple years ago.
  5. Waited for the rain to stop and didn’t get out to 430 or so . Cloudy and calm. It was an afternoon of contrasts. Started out fishing various worms , caught 2 dinks and lost 5 or 6, then had a bad birds nest on my finesse reel. Didn’t even pick it out , so I...Went to a deep point with an eel grass edge, switched to a watermelon seed super fluke , and immediately caught one. Next cast , caught another. Then I crossed the 100 foot wide channel to the south end of our island. First cast- boom! 20 inch fish.( scale had quit working). Next cast, it had just hit bottom, and the line started peeling out. This one was 21 1/2, skinny though. Third cast, a smaller fish. Then had a fish pick it up but dropped it. I decided to go a little above where I caught the 20 incher- first cast, another decent fish. I then went around 200 feet away, cast along another eel grass line, and caught another 20 incher. Then I missed the last 5 out of 6, had got overconfident I reckon, and the last one I lost might have been the best fish of the day. As a side note, this was my best 5 fish bag of the year ( I think ) and it was also probably my worst hook up percentage for the year. Go figure.??‍♂️

  7. What is really strange to me is when you suspect your scale is showing lower weight than it should. Then I do a length and girth measurement and it is ALWAYS at least a pound more than your scale. I caught 2 fish a month or so ago that were both around 4 1/2- 4 3/4pounds in my estimation.Scale said 3.11 on both. Length to girth measurement formula ( on 2 different websites) said 4.11. So I found a 5 pound weight and the scale said....5.3 ! ??‍♂️ Awesome fish by the way!!
  8. It hasn’t affected my fishing any. I Actually haven’t been in a couple weeks, except for a couple of ponds in between work stops. One benefit of this thing is that a lot of businesses are closed - and there are some ponds behind some of them. Of course, I would rather it get back to normal ( whatever that is). Im blessed to have a lake out back that I can fish and socially isolate or whatever they call it. Its very doubtful it will be closed. I do 95% of all the fishing on it and usually have the lake to myself.
  9. I’ve never hired a guide , except for party boats, that do offshore bottom fishing. I have never guided for pay, but have considered it. I’m pretty sure I won’t at this point , especially not adults , unless somebody begs me and wants to pay. I guide for friends that don’t fish much and just want to catch some, of course without pay. What I haven’t totally given up on is guiding kids. I enjoy teaching kids how to fish. I’ve taught 5 of 7 grandkids how. But 1 or 2 at a time is all I can handle !! I do it for fun and to help them have fun, but I still think there’s a way to make a little extra money with it too. Except you’d need insurance , which would eat up your profit I imagine.
  10. I’ve never heard that before but it makes sense. Maybe it got stuck? I’ll probably never know,?since the cop isn’t going to come back and tell me I’m sure! I always try to use credit, which I hear is safer, I don’t know if it counteracts the card readers or not... most of the gas stations around here have long lines so I opt for pay at the pump.
  11. Went to get gas yesterday , so I could hopefully find some toilet paper . ( seriously). I ran the card for credit at the pump. It didn’t work so I went to the attendant and it didn’t work debit or credit when he set it up. It said “declined”. ? So I called my wife to see if she knew what was going on. She said It showed that 125.00 was ran but it declined because of the bank security measures that saw it was a gas purchase and thought it was too much for gas . Thank God. So I put 10.00 in with cash , went to the store, and they were just unloading the TP. ? Called the police and he made a report and said he’d go to the gas station and interview the clerk. Not sure if it was the clerk, or maybe one of those gas pump card scanner things. What do y’all think ?
  12. I’m watching Sec games ( mostly football) on the sec channel. You know it’s bad as a Gator fan when you watch 2 Sec west teams play each other. I’m usually only good for less than a quarter. Im missing Gator baseball . They were 16-1 before this thing came. I watch the Paul Finebaum show sometimes too. No Atlanta braves either ?
  13. Over 8 inches for the bigger fish but they occasionally eat smaller ones. Catch your own with chum and a cast net. Don’t waste Your money on hatchery raised shiners. They are grayish colored, not golden. The bass know the difference.
  14. My wife and me have our 30 anniversary in January, and my 60th birthday is coming up. Hard to believe. It’s always good to hear your perspective @Oregon Native You are a real encouragement .
  15. I pulled one out from under a house for a single mother at Christmas. She didn’t want to see it, but she did look at the picture. I got a rodent exclusion job out of it too... 16. You called it. Exactly 1 hour. They’re going to work with us. Whew!!!
  17. The situation at the local grocery toilet paper aisle ?
  18. Interesting. In North Florida it’s when azaleas are blooming. I just noticed the dogwood in my yard looks like it was blooming too. And yes, I caught that fish off a bed. 1983 I think.
  19. I watched a video from a doc in New York City that said the great majority of transfer of this thing is hand to face. Not so much the air... They closed all the parks and the beaches which is a mystery to me. The last thing I want is to be around people when I’m trying to fish in NORMAL times, much less during something like this. Im fortunate to live on a lake ,which I am within the law to fish at this time. I will be fishing in my lake for now.And no, I won’t be near anyone. Like @TnRiver46 said, this may lead to a mental health crisis if we can’t work and aren’t allowed our freedoms...which could end up worse than this virus in the long run.
  20. Wow. That'll keep you pumped for a while.
  21. Could be- but I never heard them called copper nose. Copperhead bream is what we call em.
  22. I’ll watch it. I don’t have a favorite in the “ glousta “ crowd. I root for Capt Shackleford ( I think) , who is one of the outer banks crowd, when he’s on there.
  23. The worse one is real long and I’ve shared it already in a couple old threads. I may share it later, but I’ll start with a little shorter one. Me and a friend went fishing/ camping on a remote stretch of the Ocklawaha River in N. Central Florida. We got set up to camp in the ramp area, launched, and made the mistake of drifting downstream instead of cranking up and going upstream, then drifting back to the ramp. We got miles and miles away caught almost no fish as I recall, and it started getting dark. So the motor wouldn’t start. We both did what we could, but no go. Since the few people on the river were already long gone we had it to ourselves. We trolled a little ways back but the battery was dead from using it all day.So we began paddling- and paddling. Against the current- into the night. We would go as far as we could stand it , then grab ahold of a branch and rest awhile. I vaguely remember having one flashlight and it going dead. The Ocklawaha is full of cottonmouths, on limbs of trees, in the roots and snags. With no light , we would get tired and pull up to a tree , hit around with the paddles , and then grab on and rest. At some point, barred owls began hooting. Dozens of them. You couldn’t tell when one started and when one finished. “ Who cooks for you, who cooks for you aaallll .“ we finally made it back in the middle of the night, nearly eaten alive by yellow flies and mosquitoes. Im usually sorry it’s over when I get back to the ramp but...not this time.
