Revo STX: 3 weeks later
yeah, we'll see...I'm hoping for the best though. Still, my next reel WILL be a high end Shimano or Daiwa. I would just say Shimano (I already own a Fuego) but the Zillions are just too tempting. I own a Daiwa, several Shimanos, and a couple of Abus and I am very satisfied with all of them. I guess I'm not as much of a "brand guy" as I thought I was.

is it bad to throw your ciggerets butts in the lake?
Cigar butts are made of the same tobacco the cigar is made from, even though they can decompose pretty fast ( being organic ) they are still tobacco which contains nicontin which is a very powerful poison. Don 't trash them in the lake either. But how much damage can the butt end of a cigar actually do before it decomposes? How much nicotine would it take to kill fish or plant life? How much is in the butt of a cigar?

Fast Food Value Menus
A fraternity brother of mine would eat them uncooked!!! He'd sprinkle a bit of the seasoning on a corner of it and munch away. Needless to say he was one of the crazier guys in the fraternity! That's not SO strange. My aunt makes a salad from uncooked ramen noodles and cabbage that is actually delicious. Here is the recipe

Sure, you can burn dung but it's not going to last long enough to boil any substantial amount of water. I only asked because I've read about areas in Africa that have been deforested to the point that there isn't any firewood left. And if you grew up in a third world country, would you really know that a body of water was polluted to the point of being a health risk unless it had been so for a long time? I mean, sure it's pretty stupid to drink water like that especially without boiling it, I'm just saying there are scenarios where I can see it being the only or normal option.

I have been wondering that as well. Cigars are just leaves wrapped together so they must decompose pretty quickly.

Where was it? Some places don't have any readily available firewood left.

Revo STX: 3 weeks later
I posted a while ago about whether to get a Revo STX or a Curado for a frogging/jigging reel. After all the debate I ended up getting the STX on sale about three weeks ago. I have fished it almost exclusively in my last 5-6 outings and have caught fish on jigs and frogs with it including a great guided trip on the Potomac in a grass filled creek that is the prototypical sloppy, lily pad infested frog-gear testing area. The end result is: I like it! A lot! I was worried about the brakes after reading that they could be touchy and required more attention than the centrifugal brakes that I'm used to. I haven't really had much of a problem with the brakes. I have noticed they can require a little tweaking between different lures but it's really not as bad as I thought. The reel casts notably farther than my Citica (which it should because the MSRP is higher) and the reel feels smooth and solid. I can count how many times I've backlashed on one hand. I can also throw weightless senkos with it very easily. Overall, I'm very happy with my STX, so happy that I ordered a Premier and mounted it on my Zillion short distance plastics and jig rod. I hope to test out the Premier in the coming weeks and see if it really is noticeably different than the STX or not. I still want to try a Curado E though.

Another which one is the best...
Simon, would you say, then, that in your opinion, Five Guys is better than In-N-Out?

Wow, that's cool that Five Guys has spread all the way down to OK. I ate there when there was only one restaurant. The original is in Annandale, VA and it's a real dive of a place but all the local yuppies pack that place because the burgers are so good. A few years ago they started to franchise and now they are all over the place. That's true about the drive-in though, I don't think any of them have one.

perch imitating spinnerbait
Yeah, I felt a little deja vu when I posted it. I really like Picasso spinnerbaits. I have multiple colors and models and they are all great baits.

IM8 vs glx?
Sounds like GBlanks. Their IM8 rod would be a good rod but I doubt it would compare with the GLX in sensitivity. Weight, yes, but probably not sensitivity.

Would you do it?
I honestly have no idea what I would chose if I were in that situation. The money would make caring for your families needs easier, but there is always that risk...I guess I would just do what the wife says. Don't forget that she is the one who will be at home worrying about you for those six months and she will be the one who will be most affected if God forbid something happens to you.

Dan. you are evil and so are they. Can;t believe you made me think about them again. Let me tell you I LOVE, absolutely LOVE their stuff. But you can feel your arteries hardening with every greasy and wonderful bite. Definitely my favorite burger. For those who have never been, if you go order the SMALL fry. I have not ever seen a large but I expect it comes in a wheelbarrow. I second that...get the SMALL fries. They are way more than any one person can eat.

Another which one is the best...
Five Guys. after eating In-n-Out last week for the first time in like 15 years, I can honestly say that I think Five Guys beats In-N-Out's burgers AND fries.

this, like the story about the guy who ate his son's eyes while on PCP could be made into some pretty scary anti-drug campaigns...

Flippin/punchin rod ???
Because it is my only reel with a 7.x:1 ratio and it is my heaviest reel at the moment so it balances my flipping stick pretty well. Of course drag is important, but you only need so much of it, the rest is overkill.
