  1. Sam, I don't know if whether the plan is still for the James or for the Rappahannock or what, but I appreciate the info.
  2. thanks for the info, Fishtank, I found those hooks in 7/0 at a Dick's nearby.
  3. try down by the dam side. 38.741632,-77.257619 those are the coordinates for the deerlee drive parking spot on google maps. You can get directions from there. Don't park by the townhouses, there is a little circular parking lot up a hill from the apartments, park there so you won't get towed.
  4. the problem with making my own is that I can't even find the big EWG hooks I need. The largest I have been able to find in local stores is 5/0. I'm going to go check Dick's pretty soon, hopefully I'll be able to find some there.
  5. A few more degrees and it will be wade-able. I've waded in 68-70 and it wasn't too bad once you get used to it, but I definitely prefer more like 75-80 water temps for wading. I should be able to make the trip, but I can't be certain. Put me down for a maybe. Anyone want to stop by Hunting Run while we're down there? I haven't been to the lake and want to give it a quick look at least. It's not far from the Rapp at River Rd. BTW, Jay, the Rapidan is almost 70 degrees. It should be a good wade soon if we keep getting warm weather this week...
  6. beautiful, kb, absolutely beautiful. It must be extremely rewarding to fish with a handle you made.
  7. yeah, it says these are made of the Jelutong wood. I just opened them up to see what you meant, and yeah, most of them are at least a little tilted. How disappointing! I think I can still get a few to run pretty straight, but I'll have to test them out.
  8. Anybody have opinions on these cranks? I just picked up a whole bunch of them for between $1 and $3 in a clearance bin at Gander Mtn. I've never used them before but they look good...

read his post again, he was talking about someone on a different forum.
  10. I've been having trouble finding big EWG hooks to use on my Bass Magic swimbaits. I've orderd 7/0 hooks from two different internet sources. In both orders I ordered extra things to make the shipping worth while, and both orders came with the extra stuff without the hooks, the main items I wanted anyway....Needless to say, after this happening twice and being unable to fish my swimbaits for two months, I am beyond frustrated. Can anyone help me find a place where I can buy and actually receive some 7/0 or 8/0 EWG weighted hooks? BTW, the sites I tried were critterbaits and barlow's tackle...neither called or emailed to tell me my order was going to be shipped to me incomplete.
  11. Well, it turns out I might be going to visit my grandpa (the one that was just diagnosed with cancer) to help with some chores. He had a very successful operation last week but they need some people to help out so I think me and my mother may go up on Sunday and return on Monday night. Plan on getting out during the week? I could easily do that. I don't know about Pony Pasture, it's a distinct possibility. My roommate at college lives in Ashland so I could end up just going down to visit him and then meeting up with everyone, but I have to see if I can find a job for the summer, that is my priority right now.
  12. Hey guys, I'm finally done with exams! I'll be driving home Saturday morning. Does anyone want to meet up to fish this weekend or during the week?

    x2
  14. if it isn't bass busting up schools of baitfish, it's probably carp. i don't know why they do it, but i see them jump out of the water all the time
  15. I really like their Giggy Sticks, they are great for shakey heading
  16. thanks cj, I didn't know about the hatch this year. Do you have any links to cicada lures that work well for smallmouth? I figure any topwater will work as long as the smallmouth are already looking up for food, but it can't hurt to have something that looks like the real thing also.
  17. I saw a guy pull out a 30lb carp from the pier at Fountainhead one time. Weird thing was, he kept it and took it home :-? They probably don't mention them on the VDGIF because carp are pretty much everywhere and in general, they aren't a highly sought after game fish
  18. I've used Pandora before, very useful for finding new tunes. Another site to try is www.liveplasma.com You can't listen to music on it, but you can type in an artist and it will make suggestions of other artists, based on similar styles or artists. It also works for movies.
  19. i was going to say it was some type of chub, too. I don't know what kind, but I have caught chub that look very similar but they are silver and not as fat.
  20. 21 as of last month.

    awww, come on, no hints?
  22. how do they fight? I saw Bill Dance fishing for them one time and thought it was very exotic.
  23. that's great news. I'm glad the men in your club are addressing the issue and making sure a wrong gets righted to make sure everyone feels comfortable.
  24. CONGRATS, BEN! That's really awesome man, especially to do well on such a tough day (at least it was tough for everyone else) How are those Picasso Shakedowns? I was just about to order some Picasso Shak-e Football jigheads and I wasn't sure about the screw on bait keeper (it looks a little small) It looks like it is the same as the one on the Shakedown--how are they? do they hold the plastic on well?
  25. I agree. I'd say 99% of the time, fishing can't compare to trying to stretch a double into a triple, squeezing a bunt to score the go ahead run, sacking a QB or draining a 3 pointer in the 4th quarter... (I say 99% of the time, the other 1% is landing a 15-20lber.)
