  1. Big Game or Excel in #10 or #12 test. Usually #10.
  2. First of all, man, that is one sweet smallmouth you are holding in that picture. It may be just the picture but, am I right that it is over #6 and maybe like a 6-5 or 6-8?. Nice fish! I would like to hear some reviews on the Revo as well. I have had my eye on them.
  3. Man, that is a tough one. I love my Curado's but, if I have to chose one it would be my old school 5601 C3 Abu Garcia's.
  4. RW expressed my sentiments exactly. I would not use that line. Line does not stay on my reels very long. I change my line for fresh pretty frequently. I buy bulk spools and have it stored in my " fishing closet". It depends on which reel but, I usually peel off and replace about 75 yards or so at a time instead of replacing the whole spool. For attaching old line to fresh I use a Albright knot with a lock.
  5. There is a time for both but, I have to say that I use the MH 90% or the time simply because it feels better to me in my hands and I think you get a better hook set if are long casting or fishing deep water. I think this falls into the personnel preference catagorie.
  6. Spinning---6'6" to 7' M with a xtra fast or fast tip. Baitcasting---6'6" to 7' MH with a xtra fast or fast tip.
  7. Tom Bass, I am sorry you had to grow up under a situation like that. Seems you overcame it and turned out just fine. Some kids never shake that ghost as you seemed to have done. I agree, its better to speak up or at least make the proper entities aware of a abusive situation. I was very fortunate to have the great parents that I had. I feel blessed. On a lighter note, it wasn't like I didn't get a well needed butt whoopin from time to time. I tell everyone that my Mom could take down a whitetail at 100 yards with a flip-flop,lol.
  8. That is awesome. I would bet the striper come in after the shad under those lights. I would love to give it a try! RW or LBH, how should I go about signing? I love to add my name to a project that supports anglers.
  9. I am with you on the summer deal Avid. Around the last of July and into August up here I fish for bass almost at night exclusively. I still catch some good ones late summer but, most seem to be dinks. What started me night fishing years ago happened while I was in a club which sponsored as well as fished a lot of night tourneys. I learned a ton of places and techniques from the old timers in that club about night fishing. It is very popular here and a lot of fun. I have caught some of my biggest bass at night as well as some big numbers. One of my favorite places to do this is in, what I call, downtown Harrisburg PA. on the Susquehanna. We put in on a place called City Island in which is slack water behind a dam, and some of the bridges leading into the city have lights on them. This is smallmouth water and we have had some 75-100 fish nights using big 4" salty tubes with homemade rattles ( McDonald's straws loaded with no.9 bird shot). It is a blast. I use a black light and have some flourecent #8 line spooled up. It looks like 1/4" rope under that light. One thing that will drive you nuts is when you are half asleep about 2 in the morning and the bats swoop and hit your line and you tend to do a lot of hook setting, lol. Good luck.
  10. I have caught big bass on spinnerbaits, Senkos, tubes, jigs, big 12" worms etc, etc. but, I have to say, at least for green bass, that my most consistent big fish lure after thirty five years is a 1/2oz jig and trailer. Why? I don't know. What is yours?
  11. Good post Randall. I agree. I feel the same way. We are always attempting to decipher what the bass are doing and why, when we should be watching what their food source is doing and how the bass relate to their actions. Thanks.
  12. Yea, I forgot about the Hank Parkers Classic. I have caught a ton of fish on them. They are great spinnerbaits. I have a bunch of white tandem indiana blade 1/4oz ones that are fish catching fools.
  13. I agree. I deal with peoples suffering every day and some of it is like a horror movie that you could not even imagine, and if you are not around it all the time, the horror of it would overwhelm you. I guess most of us get a pretty thick skin, you have too, or you couldn't do this kind of work but, when it comes to children and kids I just cannot handle it sometimes. This kind of thing was one of those times and I thought I would just remind people to take some action in these kind of cases, thats all.
  14. I am in the health field and we had a recent case of a boyfriend shaking a baby to death. This has been a tough few for all of us but, you know, even though I am a pretty religious man, if I were ever going to shoot a man this guy would be it. I am just not understanding how these things can or are allowed to happen. There had to be signs that this kind of action performed by this lowlife could happen. If any of you ever have a hint of potential family violence, please alert the proper authorities. Evidently there were warning signs for the potential of this kind of incident and not one person in this family took any action so, as far as I am concerned they were as guilty as him. You are not protecting anyone by not alerting the authoritys except for the perpetrator. A ten month old baby should never be the victim of anything.
  15. My prayers go with you. Thats a tough one. I am sure you will survive. Like the old saying goes " one door closes and another one opens. I am in the health field as well and one good thing about what we do, we will always have a job. Good luck, its just a bump in the road my friend.
  16. Spinnerbaits with Indiana blades, Jigs with rattles and 10-12" worms with a 1/8 oz pegged bullet wt.
  17. Here is what I have used for many years and I think these two companies make some of the best as far as I am concerned. www.wareaglelures.com www.bigmouthlures.com/
  18. Happy b-day. My goodness my son is close to your age. How did I get older than dirt? ;D
  19. Those guys are two slices of bread short of a samich! ;D
  20. Thanks for the link Dizzy. Those are some awesome boats! I love my jet but it is only a 70/55. I can't imagine a 200. I have had clients scream at me, especially in the low water summer months when the water is gin clear, when I am running in 6to 8 inches of water wide open. They see the bottom rushing by and panic, lol. I know you have been in many Jet Drives and it is certainly not for the faint of heart. I have stick steering and I just tell them, " you ought to be up here! " It amazes me sometimes that I make it through some of the water I do. I always tell guys buying their first jet, its a accident waiting to happen. Again, those boats are amazing with the 200 hp and the unique tunnel. Thanks again. Jim
  21. I am glad someone mentioned underwater points. I fish them a lot. I like the ones that come off of a long flat that runs in 2-4 ft of water and then the point is at the end and drops of to about 12-18 feet. I have one such point that is awesome in the early spring and while I see a lot of anglers fish that flat I rarely see one out at the end on that underwater point. Its also a stair step type of point as well. Under water points at a public lake are one of my first choices in the early spring and summer. They are basically a pre spawn staging area in the spring if they are mid to upper lake and in the summer they are usually associated with a nearby creek channel that hold fish.
  22. I am hooking up the honesty meter here and want to ask, have any of you ever been skunked? Not in bad conditions but, on those days when you get to the ramp and you and a friend are talking about how it is the perfect day and you were going to slam them and were throwing out numbers like " We should probably have at least 30 ". The water is the perfect temp. No wind. Just a picturesque day and yet when the day was done you did not even get one bite. I have had more than one day like that in my life. I pride in myself in being able to boat at least a few under any conditions but, I have absolutely been skunked. Come on know, be honest.
  23. I was leaning and bent the arm on my office chair,LOL. That is way cool.
