  1. kids are tough on things, and ugly stick is perfect for them. i dont know anything about the reel, but i know ugly sticks can hold up.
  2. caught my pb on a zebco 733,,, that was a 12lb 4oz bass,,, most of you guys saying they're just for kids have never seen a bass that big. use what works for you, and don't worry about it, i use bait casters now because i'm much more accurate, but saying a spincast is only and option for kids/new guys just isn't true.
  3. those are nothing compared to one i had once, wish i would've taken a pic of that one.
  4. you said truth or lie so here goes, i once hooked a world record size bass on a banjo minnow. ok now for the real other real stuff story of my pb, (sorry if this is a wall of text) i was fishing with my father and granddad when i was 12, we went back to the pond behind my house, we were planning to just bluegill fish and get some to eat, but i decided to take my bass rod, which at the time was one of those old cheap "rhino indestructable rod" with a zebco 733 spooled with some 20lb mono, cant remember the brand but it was a red line. was a just in case, man im glad i did. i remember distinctly, when i got in the truck, he said the cows were lying down and it would be a bad day. we started on the dock at that pond, which had so many bluegill that occasionally one would bite a bare hook. started out good, but slowed down after a few hours, my dad started to clean the fish we had caught, and i picked up the bass rod, first cast i stuck a 2 1/2 or 3lber, surprising, since the dam on the pond had broke just a couple of years prior leaving fish in puddles of water with the exception of a few deep holes. about 15 minutes passed, i went back to the dock, and just casted around, when i felt something, a lay down, i knew there would probably be a fish there, so i spent a few minutes working it, then it happened, THUMP_REEL_WHACK i thought for a few short second that i had a catfish, i started pulling then it came up to the surface and tried to jump (to big to get airborne though), and i could see what it was, i yelled its a big one and my granddad started scrambling to get his bream busters in quick as he could, there was no was to get the fish on the dock since we had no net, i had to walk to the edge of the dock and climb down to where i could grab the fish, which, surprisingly, did not fight very hard, after that first jump it kind of just rolled over and let me have it, i don't know which of us was more excited. we put her on the scale, and let her go. no one else has caught her since, or caught any double digit for that matter. he passed a few months ago, ill always have that memory of how excited he was when i held up that fish, which very well, could be my permanent PB. and to think, i almost didn't bring my bass rod
  5. im the complete opposite, i can land a lure in a cup 1 out of 6 or so times with a baitcaster, but with a spincast i have some similar problems to a man who is to drunk to fish,,, finding the water maybe not that bad, but still much less accurate, im similar with spinning reels, but getting better, its almost like im oppsite of most people, i took very quickly to a baitcaster, but have problems with other reels.
  6. im assuming you mean spincast ? like a zebco style reel ?
  7. the only spiderwire ive ever used was a monofilament in 20lb, it was absolute garbage.
  8. 20lb braid on a baitcaster is light, i normally use 20 or less on spinning reels and 30 and up on casting. the stealth has a few things to take note of first is the braking, make sure you set the centrifugal brakes as well as magnetic (and obviously cast control knob) second is the spool design, its cross drilled making it lighter, it will accelerate much faster
  9. anyone found any of the 7'6 heavy ? i looked yesterday but they only had one casting a 7'mh
  10. yes it does. if you lose tension in the line it will be easier for the hook to come out.
  11. might help the balance on a big heavy flipping stick though.
  12. i say braid, stronger, better feel, and line vis doesnt matter with moving baits normally.
  13. i have a 7'mh/f vengeance and am very pleased. sensetive enough, and alot of backbone. i think they make a quality product, not sure about the old rods, but the new ones are good.
  14. nah the alligators here are friendly, they just want to give you alittle kiss, kiss of death that is.
  15. i like the booyah pad crasher personally. spro also makes a good frog for a little more money. the ish monroe frogs are great walking frogs. around a 7'6 heavy if you fishing heavy cover and a 7' mh if in more open water (you might want something a little shorter for bank fishing) 20 lb mono if in more open water (or 30/40 lb braid) if in heavy cover 50-65 lb braid get around a 7 speed reel with a solid drag, the speed for getting fish out of cover quickly and the power for that and hook sets dont under estimate the power of a long pause, sometimes ive had bites where i didnt move the frog for over 20 seconds. watch the water, if you see a wake get ready and keep working that spot untill you get him. i don't walk a frog very often, normally just slow twitch, that being said do learn how to walk it. like wrb said how are you going to get that fish trough that heavy cover, that is why you have to use a heavy rod and 50/65lb braid, you wont get the big fish through all that crap without it. if fishing around wood make sure not to get rapped up, theres another reason to use strong gear. frogs are different from other top water in that they make much less commotion (the way i fish them anyway) poppers and buzzbaits attract fish by making a bunch of racket on top of the water, i fish i frog completely the opposite, i fish it slow steady and try to be relatively quiet with it. some times even in open water i get more bites on a frog than i do other top water baits.
  16. I've used stren mono (only mono I'll ever likely use again) and thier braid before,(pretty good stuff as well). The only line brand I hate is spider wire. Tried one spool of mono when I couldn't find any stren, never again will I touch that brand.
  17. the chances are greater of me pulling my own hair out to use as line than spending nearly 40 dollars on a single spool of line. so i can see alot of hatred towards vanish, what about the stren flouro ? is it worth anything ?
  18. ive never used flouro before and was looking at berkley vanish, has anyone got any experience with this line. i would be using 17 lb test for t-rigs, jigs, and spinner baits.
  19. story reminds me of when my dad lost a cheap old Shakespeare combo to a bullhead catfish. than casted out with another combo and got both the combo and the fish back.
  20. never used a rod over 7'6 and unless i pick up an 8 foot swimbait stick i probably never will.
  21. 13 came out with an 80 dollar swimbait rod, idk that it would be the best punching rod. the lightning shock would do fine with punching,
  22. now that is a budget, i cant help much with anything particular in that price range but i will say with shimano you cant go wrong.
  23. 17 or 20lb stren mono. the only time you need 50 or 65lb braid is when your in the thick stuff, for hooksets with mono, point the rod at the fish reel untill you feel alittle pressure and swing, thats how i do it.
