  1. id have a mh casting, a heavy casting, and a m spinning. that would cover pretty much all i do since i dont finesse very often at all.
  2. i personally like the black and silver ones best, because the tail flutter you can catch fish well on them reeling straight, stop and go or bumping it along/ dragging it. very good lures to use.
  3. ill ask people if they caught anything and thats about as far as i normally go. if someone asked id gladly show them the stuff i use, however if someone just went through my stuff im going to have something to say about it.
  4. the 12 pounder in my profile pic was caught on a zebco 33, so spincasts definitely aren't worthless or just for pan fish. i say buy a bait caster and learn it when your ready.
  5. for lures start simple and easy get a pack of these in black/blue and some in watermelon redflake (use black/blue in murky water anything with somewhat decent visibility use watermelon redflake) http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/yum-5-dinger-soft-baits-8-pack#repChildCatid=1233249 a pack of these in 4/0 http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress-super-lock-single-worm-hooks-25-pack#repChildCatid=412254 and a pack of these for fishing deeper water (i reccomend 1/8 oz to start). http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/water-gremlin-low-profile-slip-sinkers#repChildCatid=20891 two good ways to start is texas rig either use the weight and drag/hop it along the bottom, or to twitch it weightless. learn that first then try something else. good luck
  6. toughest for me 100% summer time, georgia.
  7. i like a brand at academy called h20 xpress, http://www.academy.com/shop/browse/H2O-XPRESS?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051 i have some of thier frogs crankbaits and swimbaits and love em.
  8. where do i start: start simple WORMS get a spinning rod, m or mh with 8-15lb mono/fluro, id recommend have some black/silver ribbon tail worms and some watermelon red flake stick worms. also would recommend buying some 1/8oz and 1/4 worm weights. texas rig them and use weights depending on water depth, under 4ft deep or maybe a little deeper i recommend weightless anytime you can, unless you need to stay on the bottom. what direction do i go: to keep it simple, go towards the fish, what do fish need ? they need food, cover, oxygen, and also to spawn. during the spawn thats your main focus, the spawn, it can be tricky and easy at that same time. summer depends on the water temp and the cover, if the water is hot you look in 2 places mostly, deep water and THICK THICK cover. deep water will be cooler = more comfortable for the fish, you don't like it at 85-90 degrees either id guess and they are cold blooded, no way to regulate body temp. also many times in the first few hours of morning, especially in ponds fish will be shallow, pay attention to the difference in water temp, if you don't have a thermometer just feel the water. then thick cover, think about we (and other animals) breathe out carbon dioxide, plants 'breath' out oxygen, so those thick green lily pads would have more oxygen, also they'd provide shade which will many times cool down the water abit. fall when it starts cooling down (water temp, fish don't care what the temp is above water, they cant feel that) bait fish move shallow. when are bait fish important? any time they are present in a body of water. find the food you find the fish. winter is similar to summer, another extreme, again its about water temp, deeper water will hold heat longer than shallower. if you find running water like a spillway fish that, that means oxygen in the water and means bluegill and bait fish, Ive caught a lot of big bass like that. find a place you know theres good fish in and fish it, fish a place you have confidence in and that you know has good fish in it.
  9. went out this morning, caught four one to three lbers and a 4 and a half, 3 on the frog and 2 on the senko weightless texas rig, fishing around cypress tress for the most part. edit: one of those fish was also a spotted bass, been a while since i've seen one of them.
  10. black normally stands out best in dark conditions but never know if you never try!
  11. when that last storm went through i fish right before (literally the rain started when i was about to quit) and right after it was absolute crap right before, think i caught on that was like 8 inches long and one 2 pounder in an hour and a half or 2 of fishing, day after it was awesome, water was cooled down and bass were eating, think i caught 16 that day including two 7 pounders.
  12. i don't like the looks of that, don't think it'd have the best hookup ratio. maybe i'm wrong but just doesn't quite look right for hook
  13. the daiwa ard x series of rods is 55 bucks on tw or the berkley cherrywood hd at academy for 25 bucks, id reccomend the mh 7' of either one if you can id recommend the daiwa but the cherrywood hd i know from personal experience will land an 8 pounder.
  14. better to either a keep the rod parallel or drag the fish up the bank, that definitely don't look right though, i could see a medium power rod breaking on a 4.5 or 5 lb bass if you aren't careful or maybe even if you are. good luck with the new rod, i myself am looking for a new rod (under 60 bucks preferably) after me and a buddy made contact when he came back while i was swinging forward and the insert on my tip guide broke, eventually going to have some sort of groves worn in it and need replacing. thinking daiwa aird x mh.
  15. thats why i buy yum dingers, 3 bucks a pack at academy...
  16. i was killing em on a weightless t-rig trickworm in watermelon seed to day, up in the shallows. of course thats good almost year round.
  17. throw what you think will work best, if that doesnt work then throw something else, if you think its a good topwater day throw some topwater, if that dont work then try something else. remember the fish decide what they want, and bass can be picky, or they might be pretty free going and just feed when they get and oppertunity.
  18. Too many people look at the price tags on some cheaper lures and think quality instantly is crap. I bought a few of those today and I like them, being a budget fisherman i will probably be buying these now with a few strikeking or booyah mixed in. There's a brand at academy called h2O xpress, they have some cranks and swim baits for cheap among a few other things and they're good.
  19. I have never in my life even considered over 7'6" for a bass rod. As has been said already about the money.
  20. give people help give people tips, NEVER GIVE PEOPLE YOUR SECRETS. lets say someone says theyre having trouble catching on a walking bait and ask for help, you can give them that and its great and a nice thing to do, now lets say they ask for a good fishing spots or "hey where ya been catchin em' " i will give help (the best i can) on any lure or on how to find fish to anyone that asks, dont expect me taking you to my best spot unless your family then i just blind fold you.
  21. South Georgia or south Carolina. Small towns are the best bet, or go like me and live no town and take a leak in your yard freely, without someone wondering "hey what's he doin' over there ?"
  22. Year round my biggest confidence bait is a Texas rigged worm. Then a lipless crank. Spinner bait. If o only had three that's them but I use a number of others, Fall is a toss up
  23. i said it was not caught legally never said it wasnt caught. imo the rule should be if its hooked behind the gills instead of just outside the mouth.
