If you normally fish this way with braid only maybe a bit more diligence is needed to get the bait straight. If I am using a leader off a braid main line I have been known to use a ball bearing swivel to connect the leader to the main line. It's out of sight to the have and solves any spin and twist issues.

Although I have never tried to fish mining ponds it sounds like a good place to try sinking swim baits, crank baits and maybe try a little drop drop shot due to the shear walls.
