  1. I just read about his passing. You will be missed Patrick, RIP.
  2. I hear ya Rhino. I get very ticked off also when I see trash on the ground. I left the dock for a tourny and returned 4 hours later only to find a box with a discarded squeeze gas flow ball, clamps and other junk just sitting on the edge of the dock. The fricking garbage can was less than 15 feet away. I ended up throwing it away but it really ticked me off. My tourny buddy caught a Converse sneaker > the other week. The following tourny I caught an anchor.
  3. So what's 2 inches . I was renewing my license plate today and the tax collectors office had a pamphlet of Florida fishing regulations. I saw that they now require a license for shore fishing. I never understood why they require one for fresh water shore fishing but not salt water. They change the slots yearly I think just to us fisherman up.
  4. The combo you are using should cast flawlessly. The only thing I can think of is the spool tension knob or brakes. The line coming off the line spool upside shouldn't cause backlashes. What they are referring to is when you hold the spool of line, make sure the line comes off the spool from the top as apposed from the bottom when putting it on your reel. Does the backlash occur at the beginning or end of the cast?
  5. Then lets put 30 mono on it and go snapper fishing. Or better yet, see how well it will cast #4 or #6 mono.
  6. I hope he didn't fall out of the big brown truck.
  7. Eat the Peacocks. I haven't tried them yet but heard they are good. Smaller Snook taste better than the bigger ones. When I say smaller I mean under the slot limit. But its' illegal to keep them under size so don't do it. I will keep one right at the slot limit about once or twice a year but mostly catch and release. IMO, they have really screwed up the slot limit and bag limit. For example; Cuban (flatside) Snook don't grow to the minimum size limit and are very tasty. The limit used to be minimum 18" and you could keep 4 Snook. Now it's 26-32 and can keep only one >. I said earlier, if you want to eat Snook, then your better off getting them out of the surf. When I go Snook fishing I either go for the thrill and use light tackle or I go for the big, big mommas.
  8. Several factors come to mind but lets reevaluate the problem. 17 pound mono is too heavy for that reel, it's rated for 12 mono. Respool it with 10, 12 or 14(max) but I would use 10 Yozuri. 10 yozuri will have a thin diameter but higher breaking strength. Fill spool to about 1/16-1/8 inch from edge of spool. Make sure you spool the line on TIGHT. What kind of rod are you using? Length/ power and such? Tie on your worm and a 1/8th ounce worm weight. Loosen the spool so the worm free falls on it's own but doesn't backlash when it hits the ground. (Don't use your thumb to stop it when it hits the ground.) Once you've established the spool setting then you can tighten the spool knob about 1/16 inch until you get used to casting. When you feel comfortable, go ahead and loosen the spool to the setting you had when the worm falls on its own and doesn't backlash when hitting the ground. I adjust my brakes by pulling every other one out. (one in, one out, etc) If you still get backlashes then try adding more brake. Refer to the owners manual for proper settings and troubleshooting. If you insist using heavy line for flipping then stick with braid.
  9. There seems to be some interest in a few of us wanting to get together for a little fishing. Would anyone be interested in meeting at Loxahatchee Wildlife refuge off 441 in Boynton Beach (Between Atlantinic Ave and Boynton Beach Blvd.)? I can probably get HAWK to fill my backseat. Perhaps Kevin and Bruce can bring their boats to accommodate 2 more non-boaters. It doesn't have to be an all day trip since it's Africa hot outside. 4 or 5pm until dark is cool with me. Monday afternoons are great for me but probably not for the rest of yall so speak up and lets get this started.
  10. What's a hot foot? Sounds like something I could use. A gas pedal for a boat.
  11. Unless you've had training. Once you have had PROPER training then it is quite easy to pull up next to the boat and board. I've done it from a 32 foot center console onto a 40 foot "go fast" in 2-3 foot seas going about 40.
  12. The Big Lebowski. "Well, are you gonna pull those pistols or stand there and whistle Dixie?"
  13. I apologize for my smart donkey remarks but how else can you fish a crankbait besides on a reel? ;D ;D ;D
  14. use 4/0 and 5/0 Tru-Turn and straight shanked hooks for worm fishing.
  15. The snook in those ponds most likely have zero access to saltwater. They traveled through the spillway and pipes. Snook and tarpon adapt to freshwater, unlike other saltwater species. The snook won't be able to reproduce though. I'm not sure about the tarpon. As far as eating the snook goes, I would treat them like any other freshwater fish. If you won't eat the bass from a particular pond or lake then I wouldn't eat the snook. Snook are "fair" table food compared to snapper, grouper, dolphin wahoo, swordfish, etc. Your better off catch and release with the snook if they don't have full access to your pond or lake. Also, ocean snook taste different than the snook that hang around intracoastal bridges, docks and freshwater lakes. You will need a snook stamp to keep snook, regardless of where you catch them.
  16. Haven't lost anything overboard except shiners, live shrimp and fish.
  17. Glades, Absolutely. Maybe we can get Mr. Boca to go with us, he's the pro/guide for out there. My Uncle will be going with me so 3 in the boat is going to be tight.
  18. And it can be rough or quilted.
  19. Snook and Tarpon adapt to freshwater. It is not uncommon to catch or see them swimming around with the bass. I've seen 1 snook caught on Lake Okeechobee during a tournament years ago. It wasn't the typical pretty snook you find in the surf but it was still a snook.
  20. I haven't been out to lox wildlife in a few months but I bet it is full of hydrila.
  21. John Wayne- Westerns or war/drama? Clint Eastwood- Westerns or crime/drama (Dirty Harry) What other actor(s) do you prefer to watch play a certain role over other roles.
  22. Great list, especially #'s 4 and 8. Although they aren't as heavy as the ones you posted, I'd have to add 1 or 2 from Alabama into the mix.
  23. Well, I can't speak for SirSnook, but I have. In fact, not to burst your bubble, but I have done better than what you claim to have done. But then again, it's rather easy to do when your in a school of them and they are feeding. I find it more impressive fishing the inlet with lite spinning gear and catching over the slot Snook. Kind of like SirSnook does.
