  1. The combo you were looking at will be good for about the first 3 months, then it will not perform to his or anyones standards. For 50 bucks I would say buy him an ABU round baitcaster. Even if he doesn't know how to use it. Tighten the cast control and set the brakes at full potential. Tie on a 1/2 spinnerbait and he will learn how to use it. The next time you go fishing lower brakes and let off of the cast control some and use the same spinnerbait. Continue until he gets more comfortable and you can set it where he can use the reel at its full potential. For line, I would buy 12lb Suffix Elite. If you buy a little larger reel I would go w/ Cajun Advantage 14lb. This line will enable him to learn better by the thicker diameter. Lures: Spinnerbaits Rattletraps Jigs Texas Rigged Worms ...will be great choices for a begginer in casting equipment.
  2. haha well I haven't had great luck w/ Dawia but it was a lower end reel. I know Shimano is good from top to bottom, I have from a Chronarch all the way down. As for the rod, okay all I gotta say is WAR d**n EAGLE.
  3. I have a Carrot Stick LTX. (Casting) I was going to put a SOL on it to make to match but after I got to thinking I'm considering putting a Shimano Chronarch Super Free 50MG on it. It's amazingly light and has the Super Free technology that I like. What do yall say to that? Go for the lighter, better reel (Shimano, obviously) or the prettier SOL?
  4. So can use these w/ a regular hook and swim it without any weight?
  5. deloscustomtackleshack.com $100 and shipping is free. Cheaper than 95 bucks and shipping from dicks. These are hands down the best reels you can buy for 100 bucks. Smooth and well built. and it also helps the it has a big SHIMANO on it.
  6. I don't see how people can cast those storm baits. I bought some when I was younger and on my fish cast the plastic came off and I was left w/ the head. Lucky me eh? So no more storm, mattlures is now getting my business. Basstrix are low all over the internet but Mark's outdoors still has them in stock for 10 bucks a pack. Lucky me eh? haha
  7. I think your hook choice depends where in the water column you want to fish it. If you want a surface/fluke type appearance use a none weighted hook. If you want it further down in the water use a weighted hook. And if you want it near the bottom you can yo-yo it using the hook style I showed you. I think the heads I showed will produce bigger fish for you because it gives a more swim bait type action whereas the other hooks make it look more like a fluke. Its just what you want, this is a very versatile bait as you will soon come to realize.
  8. What I and many others do is thread your spoon onto the line. Then, tie on a treble hook. This acts as a stinger hook and eliminates the need for a split ring.
  9. Here's a link: http://www.***.com/descpageAMSCROUNG-AMSH.html perfect head for these. i would deffinatly try to get them and if you can't you can get the weighted hooks but trust me these give the best action to these no doubt.
  10. I would scratch that style hook if you can find some of the heads that have a blade like a chatterbait. I have some a friend gave me and i use Magic Shad on them for schooling fish. Ill try to find some and post a link.
  11. Okay so yall talked me into the Daiwa SOL for my carrot stick, just because I want me to have a pretty little combo. haha I like that its orange(obviously), light, has a 5.8:1 gear ratio, and i can get one shipped free for 210 bucks from delo's. So i guess my questions are: 1. How do you like the SOL? 2. Of yall who have the carrot stick and SOL combo, what line do you have spooled up?
  12. I'd add an extra 10 bucks and buy a Curado, but thats just me. The energy's pretty finish rubs off pretty quick w/ nicks and its also HEAVY...over 10oz. Thats what most larger spinning reels weigh.
  13. I see your into photography and butterflys there LBH.....
  14. Do anyone have a Pflueger Purist? 8 bearings 7.8 oz pretty light. I don't want a very big reel. I wanted a Revo S but its a little on the heavy side for this rod to only be 3.2 oz
  15. Recently got a carrot stick and dang it is light. I need a light reel to pair it up with, but i need one for under a 100 bucks cause im out of the funds. Any suggestions?
  16. How has the Browning held up? I ordered one, made 6 casts, layed it down, and shipped it back to bass pro the next day. Then bought a Pfluger Supreme.

Like others said, if you just stick around for a while and read what everyone has to say about everything then you will qucikly find out when to throw what. A good place to start is Spinnerbait on a windy day, crankbait to any depth on a calm day, and worm either time. Crankbait=wood and rocks. Spinnerbait=Weeds. Worms=anywhere but wood unless you have the right gear.
  18. hey Raul how do you like that Black Max? I was thinking about getting the Silver Max but wanted to hear what some people had to say first.
  19. That's what I thought I would get. Thats okay ill just buy one and maybe something like a 13/14 lber will make up for it.
  20. Does anyone know any baits close to these that don't have the same cost? I'm not really wanting to pay 20 bucks.
  21. Right now the best way to be using straight tailed worms for me is either a split shot or shaky head
  22. Probably gonna have to w/ my Rouge Rod's Flippin' Stick. In alabama, I can pick up this rod anytime of the year and catch a fish.
  23. That should be the rod of choice if your looking for a weightless plastics rod.
  24. Save an extra $50 and go buy a carrot stick. Having a cranking rod right now is going to do you no good. It's almost thanksgiving, even if you use it you may not catch anything. So save an extra 50 and buy a carrot stick.
