Running 87 Octane in my Mercury 4 Stroke
Typically, it is not ethanol free. I have looked for stations around me, but there are none that are close. Are higher octane fuels typically ethanol free? The pumps with ethanol typically say "may contain up to 10% ethanol". Sometimes there are pumps without those stickers. However, I do not see any that boast ethanol free.

Running 87 Octane in my Mercury 4 Stroke
My Tracker 40HP is the one and only boat I have ever owned. When I bought it, the dealer said run 87 octane in it and that is all I have done. Not for any particular reason, I am wondering if 87 is a minimum, not necessarily exactly what I should be using. Is 87 octane exactly what I should be using or a minimum? What about with the 10% ethanol content?

What line/rod to use for fluke fishing?
I use 30# braid to a 12# to 15# mono leader. I often jerk it aggressively so it pops out of the water so it is "semi-topwater", sometimes in the same places I throw a frog. I use them starting right now until I pack it up for the year in November.

Buying tackle that turned out to be a failure for you…
Another A-rig failure here. I am sure I will risk back injury again when next spring rolls around in 2024, but it has been 2 Feb/March/Aprils with zero catches.

Waiting for a friend. CA delta day!
That launch is steeper than the picture might imply. It taught me to not disconnect my winch strap until the trailer and boat are in the water.

if one particular bait is killing it..do you change up to keep it interesting?
Yes, all the time. I don't fish tournaments. However, I do buy entirely too many lures.

best baitcasting reel around $100
Everyone is putting forth the Daiwa Fuego CT as Daiwa's $100 offering. I have three of them from when they were $100 reels (or less), and I think they are the bee's knees. However, today, it would be accurate to pit the CA 80 against the SLX and LFG. Beyond pointing out apples and oranges, I have no experience with any of the three so I will stop here.

Jerkbait Question
There are many options but getting at least one Vision 110 is inevitable. Unless you are an inaccurate caster and hit a lot of rocks or prone to overcasting into trees and plants, it would not hurt you to get one. It is the gold standard of jerkbaits. In my opinion, the best budget jerkbait is the old and maybe new H2O Express. I don’t know if the product changed with the packaging. Also Yozuri is a good value option across their whole offering.

Daiwa Fuego Locking Up on Retrieve?
Have you consulted the bait monkey? He knows about reels too.

When do you change our your braid?
I use to switch it out when it faded too much. It still worked okay, but I would see the yellow faded, and it gave me a reason to change it. However, it occurred to me that white is pretty easy to see so I started buying 832 in white. Now I have no idea how long it will be before I switch it out. I guess when retying baits and leaders depletes the spool. I can imagine that being a long time.

How many people on here does this apply to?
Lures go in phases for me. There is always the lure/technique I want to emphasize for the year, but other than that it changes. I went about 2 years without dragging plastic, but last year, it was 70% of what I threw that wasn’t topwater. I am about to go out for the first time this year. I only have moving baits tied on. Social media is a powerful thing that gives everyone a voice, but I stay off of it except for this forum. If I went down that rabbit hole, it would consume too much of my time. It’s a shame really that I am so selfish. The world would really benefit from my influence.

You inherit Warren Buffett's estate. What do you build or buy?
I would buy the Pittsburg Steelers and be to it what Jerry Jones is to the Dallas Cowboys.

Any particular new lure you plan to use this year?
Yamamoto Slinko is new to my tackle this year. I plan to neko or shakey head it.

hypothetical question. would you rather be.......
I would choose to be super hot and get me some sugar mommas that would keep my days supplied in high end lures, rods, reels, boats, electronics, and towing vehicles in exchange for nights of unlimited manhood!

If you run Braid to leader for pitching….
Exactly 4 slightly loose wing spans.

Next Gen Forward Facing Sonar
It may not be the very next evolution in fish finder technology, but somewhere along the way, it will be a visual over lay goggles or glasses that let you see everything under the water in your field of vision including but not limited to fish, vegetation, rocks, etc. Instead of looking down at a screen, you will just look "through" the surface of the water and see all the way to the bottom with points of interested highlighted. By deploying drones/buoys, nothing in your domain will be able to hide or move without you seeing it virtually in real time. The detailing will be good enough to ID the species and size. Either that or civilization collapses, and we go back to sharpening sticks and spearing them.

Red jerk baits
I just bought ordered one along with other red baits to try out in a week or two when I get out on the water for the first time in 2023. It will be my first time giving red a try in the spring.
