  1. Here are some tips: http://www.pickwicklake.net/Pickwick_Lake_Info/Maps/Bass_Fishing/bass_fishing.html Panther is a "community hole". The entire bank north or to the "left" of the cove is usually productive all the way to the island. Docks, especially on the main lake, usually hold a few tournament bass, but I have never caught anything over 3-4 lbs off of them. If you put in or weigh in at State Park (Lodge), the point just west of the marina is of special interest, but forget about the swimming area even if it's wide open. Never done any good along the dam either, but you will see lots of guys trying. Good luck! Oops! I'll leave this up for other guys interested in fishing Pickwick, but my response has NOTHING to do with the "Alabama side". I don't know how I missed that unless you modified the question. -Kent 8-)
  2. Actually, this is how Power Pro ended up on my new Curado... Violating my own rules, I was fishing a 7" Senko when it decided to escape...The explosion looked like a huge ball of cotton candy and what was left intact was just about the right amount of line for backing!
  3. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  4. "Just because"... For everyone else, buy a rubber net: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1128002349 8-)

  6. Well, I have 15 rigs, 11 baitcasters and 4 spinning combinations. I experiment with new or different lines all the time on a rig or two. Currently I have PP 50/12 on my jig rig (BCR854/ Curado 200 E7); YZ #15 for Mattlures Baby Bass (ES70MHF/ Calais); #12 P-Line CX Premium for one of my designated jerkbait rigs (PR844C/ Core); and #4 YZ on two rigs set up for a trout trip (PR844S/ Stella 2500FD and AVS66MLF/ Stella 1000FA). Otherwise, I'm "as recommended" : #6 for spinning and #12 for baitcasting. I honestly don't find any noticeable stretch using #12 on my jig rods, but I'm not (too) hard headed. With such a strong endorsement for braid from Fish Chris and a few others, I decided to give braid another try. It's only been a few weeks, but so far I hate it just as much as I rememder hating it years ago! We'll see, I'm gong to stick with braid on this set-up at least until next spring and give it a fair trial. 8-)
  7. Definitely share the money, the "goodwill" is worth thousands! 8-)
  8. Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb breaking strength). Baitcasting: #12 Hybrid or Ultra Soft (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength). 8-)
  9. Shimano Citica If you browse through the last 20 pages or so of this section, you will find suggestions for just about every reel that is out there around your pricing point. 8-)
  10. I like 80-100 yards of main line to fish with. For simplicity, maybe about half your spool can be backing. 8-)
  11. This should help you get started: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137 8-)
  12. That's a beauty, CONGRATULATIONS! "On average" a 24.5" largemouth weighs 9.0 lbs. Source: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Note: Some of the top 100 "certified bass" recorded in Texas are less than 24.5", so it's certainly possible that your bass was a DD. The 24.5" on the attached list weighed 15.38 lbs! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/programs/fishrecords/freshwater/top50_largemouth.phtml 8-)
  13. 5 lbs is where I draw the line, green fish or brown! 8-)
  14. sweet daddy broke his line and blames it on the KVD. We have addressed his comment on a number of threads and he simply won't leave it alone. In fact, he makes it a point to bring it up with negative posts at every opportunity. I think you should try KVD Line & Lure Conditioner for yourself. Most of us really like the product. 8-)
  15. Probably the hottest new lure for a lot of our members is the Rage Tail Shad. The cover you describe is the perfect scenario for this lure: http://www.ragetail.com/ragetalk/index.php?topic=834.0 Then too, you gotta be throwing a frog! Additionally, I would work the edges early with a Cavitron buzzbait. As the day progresses, back to the ole reliables: GYCB 5" Senko and Fat Ika. To target bigger bass, the Rage Tail Anaconda is red hot! The Lobster as a jig trailer or on an Evolution Shak-e2 jig head has been working, too. Another suggestion is fishing right in the grass/weeds/pads with the GYCB Kut Tail, weightless and weedless. I prefer the 6 1/2" Khuna for a bigger presentation. Good luck! 8-)
  16. C'mon... This is a Revo thread, the Posse needs to stay out of this.
  17. Unless you are dead set on a low profile, take a look at the Shimano CTE200GT. Here's my post from the other "baitcasting" thread still up on the first page, a few lines down: Shimano CTE200GT http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/r... I have one matched with a G. Loomis MBR844C. This is my weighted soft plastics rod and striper rod. Another is saddled to a Lamiglas SR705R for deep cranking. The CTE200GT is built like a tank, but is surprisingly compact. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant...This is a reel that represents everything Shimano is known for. With proper maintenance, you will fish this reel the rest of your life. All of my reels, except an STX, are my "favorite" reels. However, the CTE200GT is the only reel that I have two of. I think this reel addresses your needs and that you will be very pleased with its performance.
  18. I think most guys will be 100% satisfied with all aspects of the Curado 200 E7. I have a few JDM reels and the performance of the Curado is "comparable". For a lot more money, you get a little more, but it's subtle, not dramatic. 8-)
  19. Perfect! Simply draping a small hand towel or bandanna around your neck works fine. Just remember, if you get really hot and start to feel cold, it's time to jump in the lake or river. Summer fishing on the Tennessee River involves getting in and drifting a few miles with the boat ever hour or so. 8-)
  20. Be patient and keep an eye on our Flea Market. You might find a G. Loomis IMX MBR844C in your price range. This rod is a proven winner and something you will fish your whole life. If you want a shorter rod, the Avid AVC68MXF would serve as both your soft plastics rig and light jig rod. The spinning version is the AVS68MXF. 8-)
  21. You can crawl to an EXXON station next to the park. Cigs & beer, no problemo.
  22. http://hotdawgguideservice.com/fishreport/fishreport.htm Give Dawg a call and tell him Kent Smith sent you to him. I'll be there in two weeks (7/23-7/26) with a few guys. We target big German Browns, but if it's numbers you are after, no problemo! Hot Dawg will give you some advice and next time, hire him for a day or two. You will catch some trout on your own, but with Tim, a 30-50 fish day, per person, is pretty common. 8-)
  23. We rent space to Google, but the companies they advertise are not our direct sponsors. We (Glenn) have some control over content placed here, so it has been brought to his attention. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
