What's Not Hot Anymore?
Very interesting... My best personal observation would be the original Floating Rapala. Now, I know this lure still produces bites, but nothing like the frenzy back in the '60s when it first became available domestically. At one time these lures were rented by the hour! How times have changed. On the other hand...Catt would be my example of how things remain the same. As far as I know, he's still fishing the same worm he was fishing 25 years ago. As I recall, his "average" tournament production has been 27 lbs. Not too shabby, huh? 8-)

Spooning techniques?
Treble hook lures in general are difficult to fish from shore, spoons are impossible. With a boat and lure retriever, most lures can be recovered, but not from the bank. 8-)

cheap and expensive baitcaster reels
Whoa! Let's chill a bit... Lower priced baitcasters can get the job done, no doubt, but generally somewhat higher priced reels tend to be more "user friendly". Maybe the C3 is fine, I'm not familiar with the reel. I do know that the Citica D (last years model) is a fine reel that you might find for around $75. 8-)

Avid - Med or Med Heavy?
The tip is an advantage for everything except jigs and soft plastics. 8-)

Avid - Med or Med Heavy?
My "all around" baitcaster is an Avid AVC66MF. Although it can be used for all medium weight treble hook lures, it is especially useful for working jerkbaits and topwater. This is also an excellent choice for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. The rod has a soft tip, so I do not consider it the perfect rod for soft plastics and jigs, but it "will do" for those applications, too. 8-)

Would you kill one for science ???
Geez...Those aren't even "big" fish. I hope you post the results here, we're all interested in this type of information, especially first hand. 8-)

deadsticking?
Well, it could be longer... Legend has it, the Gitzit (tube) was designed as a "do nothing" lure. When fishing gets slow, toss out a Gitzit, pop a beer and smoke some cigarettes. "Deadsticking" can involve hours! As a method, drifting is probably the most effective (and least boring) approach. Any soft plastic will work. If you have the patience, you will be pleasantly surprised. 8-)
