  1. Once again, it's time to count my blessings. 31 years together, two wonderful children and still on the right side of the grass! 8-)
  2. The last week of April I stumbled upon a new "Secret Pond" near my house. This is the focal point of a somewhat isolated public park. In the month of May I caught 43 largemout bass, 38 of which were 5lbs+. I didn't fish the pond nearly as much in June, but caught 27. These were the best two months of green bass "catching" I have ever had. As a sidelight, most of the fish were caught on jigs, a few on the Cavitron 3/8 oz buzzbait and a couple on topwater. During this period I never threw soft plastics, my strong suit! 8-)

    Welcome aboard! 8-)
  4. I have good luck with the bait fishing grasslines when the bass are focused on baitfish. Long casts and a medium speed, steady retrieve has been the ticket. You don't need to "work" this lure, it works itself! 8-)
  5. Welcome aboard! G.Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Shimano CTE200GT/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12. 8-)
  6. I don't think this has anything to do with Daiwa, the Fuego, where they were built or the pricing point. Cabelas is at fault. Their return policy is exceptional, but a few people take advantage of the situation and return mechandise that is ruined. It's Cabela's responsibility to weed out the bad seeds. To resend these reels "as new" is simply unacceptable. Return the reels for exchange, I'm sure you will be very happy with "new" Daiwa Fuego reels. >

  8. RoseAngler, Hybrid is a bonded fluorocarbon/ nylon blend. Fluoro is a crystal. A backlash will sometimes create a very obvious kink in the line. This is a weak spot that should be removed. Either respool or add-on as I do. I like 80-100 yards of good line, the rest can be backing. I assure you, that's what happen, the line will not break on its own. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior 8-)

  10. Man, that sucks...truely a sad story...I doubt if we have more 17,734 members that would like to tell that tale...Poor baby... :
  11. And from another page: Geez... I didn't know Paris Hilton was a Rocket Scientist... "Drill for oil to meet our short-term needs while developing alternative energy sources for the long-term." I am so sick and tired of "DO-NOTHING" politicians. We have plenty of resources, it's time to focus our national priorities and use them. Virtually unlimited shale oil reserves in the Rocky Mountain States; more coal than all of the rest of the world's total energy potential; untapped oil on the continental shelf and Alaska; and the end-all...nuclear power. Let's require these slugs that took a five week "summer break" to actually do something to address the issue. The energy challenge requires a concentrated effort to resolve: FIX IT NOW! We have the resources, let's use them.
  12. From page 2 on this thread: when will the middle east be at peace Not for 2000 more years They have never had peace. Never will either. Wrong... The same thing was said about the Japanese during WWII. The Germans have always been associated with war and aggression. A few hundred years ago the same was said about the Spanish and for a thousand years the Vikings were nothing but ruthless savages. Democracy, independence and freedom can carry the day. American is a beacon of light for all of humanity. Iraq is a symbol of hope for the entire world. I believe that peace in the Middle East is achievable. "A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step." Back on topic, Oil is nothing but a commodity. Prices will fluctuate, but there is nothing "intrinctly valuable" about oil. There is a glut of oil in tansit and the pricing is contrived. The commodity is not scarce, delivery to end users is the problem. In a broader context, the universe is unimaginably large. The only thing greater than the volume of mass is the amount of energy in the system. If we mere mortals can find a way to harness a small portion of that energy, life becomes simple. There is not now, and will never be a shortage of "energy". 8-)

  14. It's easy to hate these guys: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,442343,00.html Why we haven't addressed this issue thirty years after the Arab Oil Embargo in the '70's is a mystery to me. C'mon boys! Get off your butt and solve our energy crisis. We have the means, we need the will! >
  15. Welcome aboard! You stand to get better answers in this regional section regarding fishing in Massachusetts. Guys here won't pop-off about the fishing patterns in southern Florida. :

  20. Once your drag is set properly on a paticular rig, you can pull line and get a "feel" for where it should be. I only use a precise measure on new set ups or occasionally, just for fun! I think the biggest surprise for most people is that their setting isn't as high as it should be. 3-4 lbs puts a lot of pressure on most rods. BTW, If you are doing the math, use "actual breaking strength". For example Hybrid #6 is 11.9 or 12 lbs rounded. My spinning tackle is set at 3 lbs. 8-)
  21. Well, let me just say that I have never been broken off by a fish using the method I described to set your drag. Precisely measuring the setting will prevent rod damage, too. I see no reason to adjust your drag for changing conditions. 25-30% is the range, regardless of the challenge you face. 8-)
  22. Hey Joe. S, Any pics? 8-)
