WOO-HOO! Congratulations. That's a fine fish. 8-)

St Croix Legend Elite
Soft plastics is my suggestion, but we have some notable fishermen on the Forum that like the XF Action for topwater and jerkbaits, too. For me, all treble hooks are fished on Moderate Action (AC70MM) or Fast Action with a soft tip (Avid AC66MF). My main soft plastics rod is the ES70MF. I also own the EC70MHF which I use for heavy spinnerbaits and Mattlures Baby Bass, but it is well suited for soft plastics and jigs, too. 8-)

Old timers vs New Guys
Well...being older could have something to do with it, too. Fishing isn't particularly physical, but youth has its advantages. 8-)

Big Bass, small pond - How to catch?
Welcome aboard! I wouldn't concentrate on one fish, if you have seen one there are probably more. Target "big bass" in general and you will be rewarded accordingly. In low light that might mean topwater, buzzbaits or jerkbaits. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits also catch big bass. However, most big bass are tricked by soft plastics and jigs. I highly recommend fishing mid-day. This is when the majority of giants are caught. For me, that means 6" Senko, Fat Ika, 5 1/2" Mizmo Grandes (tube) or 1/2 oz jigs. Good luck! 8-)

Lures For River Smallmouth
3 1/2" tubes are big producers, probably the #1 producers for smallmouth bass. However, don't overlook the grub. I fish 5 1/2" GYCB Single Tails, mostly clear w/ silver flakes or smoke on a 1/8 oz jig head. 8-)

Pitching - Please Help
Practice, practice, practice...If there was ever a need for "thumb control" this is where it comes into play. Your brakes don't need to be completely off, but the line must flow smoothly without much (any) resistance. Coordinating the sweep of your rod and release of the lure is another challenge. I'll be interested to see if anyone has the magic answer, I could use some advice myself! 8-)

Bass Pro Shops Extreme baitcast reel
Just to be nit-picky, since the Forum is so slow this morning... I notice a lot of the combinations at the bigger retailers (BPS, Cabela's, etc.) seem to target something around $150 for their "higher-end" sale items. The difference in equipment between the $100 and $150 price breaks is fairly significant. So you may be right about the $100 pricing point, but if guys can stretch to the next level, I really think it's worth the money. After that, it's hard to argue against the law of "diminishing returns". 8-)

Rigged Grubs For Smallies
No. Just fish the double tail as it is and you will be fine. I said I "prefer" a single tail, but that doesn't mean the double won't work. I am sure you will do well. 8-)

I need top quality jigs PLEASE!!
That appears to be GMAN's jig. I haven't seen others with the dimpled jig head. The hook stands up to display the tailer very prominently, too. 8-)

Baitcaster vs. Spinning reel
Marty, I know spinning reels are faster and have higher IPC (inches per crank). They are just not as comfortable for me as baitcasters are for steady and/or fast retrieve. I certainly see your point, I guess you probably understand mine, too. 8-)

Citica 100 drag plate upgrade?
Man, I fish for 30+ lb stripers and don't have your problem. I wish I were catching the fish you are. Maybe you need a saltwater reel. 8-)

Baitcaster vs. Spinning reel
Spinning tackle: Finesse fishing Baitcasting gear: Power fishing All of your fishing can be done on either type of equipment. For lighter lures and thinner lines, I prefer spinning tackle; for heavier lures and thicker lines, baitcasting. I also prefer baitcasting rigs for fast retrieve presentations. 8-)

006 Banjo Minnow
Okay, I have been told by some members that the search function isn't bringing up anything, so this thread is re-opened. Game on! I'll start... There are better alternatives that are easier to fish, don't require cheap attachments and are far less expensive. Slug-Go or flukes come to mind. Can you catch fish with the lure? Yes. When almost anything else would work better, the Banjo Minnow will produce a few fish. 8-)

LC lvr vs Rat-l-trap
I have had prertty good luck with the LC LVR-Max-500 and LVR 300, but the Yo-Zuri RattlN' Vibe rocks! At Guntersville last March I caught most of my fish on a XCalibur Xr50, blue chrome/ orange. 8-)

Do scents applied to baits really help that much?
Tennessee bass have a strong preference for tobacco and beer scents. 8-)
