If you just want to catch some fish, this is all you really need when the weather warms up a bit: Buy two bags of 5" Senkos (watermelon w/ black flakes) and one bag of Fat Ika, same color. Cast parallel to the bank, out 5-15 yards from the shore. Let the bait settle and sit for at least thirty seconds, then move it 6-12" with a slow, horizontal sweep. After moving the bait, allow it to settle on slack line and sit. Repeat until you feel you are out of the zone. If there are any bass where you are fishing, I GUARANTEE you will catch a few fish. "Moving" lures are all about action and profile, not texture, taste or smell. I think Real Skin is nothing more than a marketing ploy. BTW, this comment is coming from a HUGE fan of Lucky Craft lures! 8-)

All the rod manufacturers have a rod in their line-up that will meet the single hook criteria. The emphasis here is a firm tip. For your treble hook rod, the differences are more subtle. The traditional approach is a rod with Moderate Action. However, for an all-around treble hook rod, most fisherman need a compromise that allows better control for certain applications (jerkbaits and topwater). My specific recommendation for this second rod is the St. Croix Avid AC66MF. Although I generally prefer 7', 6 1/2' makes this rod easy to maneuver without sacrificing much casting distance. The rod is rated Fast Action, but has a soft tip which works well with crankbaits and still allows good control for fishing topwater lures and jerkbaits. I paid full-bore retail ($150 or $160), but if you can find it on close-out, it should be either side of $100. This is THE ROD that I consider my all-around rig for "moving" lures. The tip is too soft for jigs and plastics. 8-)

GYCB color selections are extensive, there is something for every taste. I fish a few colors, but it's REALLY not necessary! A low gear ratio gives the reel more power. This comes into play with deep diving crankbaits and heavy lures. For some, it's about slow retrieve. I use these reels (Shimano CTE200GT) on a jig rod and a glass rod (Lamiglas SR705R). 8-)

For $90 you can own a GREAT reel: http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocitaca.html The Citica was on sale just a few weeks ago for $70 after rebate. Maybe it will be again. 8-)

I have one (AVS70MM) and like it, too. However, they raised the price from $160 to $210 and the "value" disappeared. That price is too close to the G.Loomis SJR 843S IMX. For the extra $50, I like the Loomis rod and warranty better. I consider the Fenwick Techna AV more comparable to St. Croix's Avid series which is currently on close-out sale for around $100. 8-)

I bought the same lure on sale for the same price at BPS a year or two ago. I think it will do well, but like the majority of my lures, the only time this one has ever been wet was when I tested it in my pool. I have never actually fished it! :
