  10. Well, a decade or so ago I was fishing jerkbaits off a bluff near the Bull Shoals dam. The water was gin clear and bout 300' deep! We were targeting walleye that had pinned shad up against the rock walls. We were fishing late on a moonless night, "country dark". I was throwing a Lucky Craft Pointer 128, dreaming about a new World Record! And then it hit... My gear was a Lamiglas Skeet Reese SR705R, Shimano Calcutta and #15 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. The rig was completely maxed out and I knew this was the one! I could hardly move the fish and it seemed like an eternity fighting the monster in the dark. As I got the fish up a little, my guide Tim "Hotdawg" Curtis was scanning the water with a floodlight when he screamed "S**T", it's a gar. In the clear water the fish was still 15'-20' deep and 20 yards out. As the fish came closer, we knew we needed a bigger boat. I said just cut it off, but Hotdawg would have none of that, he was determined to save the lure. This fish seemed as long as the boat so the only thing we could do was attempt to snare the snout in the net. It was pure comedy! We eventually retrieved the Pointer and the fish swam free. Don't know what it actually weighed, but something like 75-100 lbs is a guess. She was HUGE! So, I have had some fun with trash fish, but I still don't target them, ever. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1CAOJUW_enUS1019&sxsrf=ALiCzsaN6T_mpReFrsbURJRm_E2uloonug:1660829268661&q=Arkansas+state+record+alligator+gar&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiDgd2Uv9D5AhUvK0QIHXWzCggQ1QJ6BAhPEAE&cshid=1660829359630597&biw=1366&bih=665&dpr=1#imgrc=srOlnhhQIugslM

  12. Hmm... At least 10 hours a month on average.
  13. Bass live longer in northern waters. In the South a smallmouth bass can reach 4 lbs in 5 years, but they only live for about 9 years. In northern lakes, it might take 9 years to weigh 4 lbs, but they live to be 19. Dale Hollow is a highlands reservoir. The water is crystal clear and cool most of the year. This is (probably) why the World Record lived to be 13.
  14. Well, I"m glad I have the opportunity to fish the reservoirs of the Tennessee River and Bull Shoals. I bought a BFS rig and found I don't like it at all. Little squeakers are not my thing.
