Fishing After A Shad Kill
CONGRATULATIONS! Paul, picking off a bass or two might be "lucky", but those numbers you caught have nothing to do with luck! You da MAN! 8-) -Kent

St Croix Avid Crankbait Rods
Probably, but the specifications are 1/4 - 5/8 oz. I have the AVC70MM which I highly recommend. The rod will cast an XCalibur Xr50 a country mile! 8-)

Lure/Species Specific Rods
Well, personally I prefer Medium Power for everything except jigs and deep diving crankbaits. Fast Action with a soft tip can be substituted for Moderate Action. My main topwater/ jerkbait rod is a St. Croix Avid AVC70MF. It has a soft tip. For most crankbaits and especially lipless lures. the St. Croix Avid AVC70MM is an excellent rod. For big, deep divers (DD22) I have a Lamiglas SR705R. 8-)

Fishing After A Shad Kill
Nothing, not even a single bite. We talked with just about every other boat on the river. As far as I can tell, one drum was caught among the twenty or so fisherman. Otherwise, no one got a bite on artificials or live bait. Thanks for the suggestions anyhow! -Kent

Sustain or Stradic CI4
I think so. The Sustain is a fine reel, but it's just not worth the premium. I bought one right, but have never really understood the target market at this pricing point. 8-)

Sustain or Stradic CI4
I have never been particularly impressed with the Sustain. I would get the Stradic CI4. I have only fished the reel for a short time on a couple of occasions. I do not own the CI4, but I'm almost embarrassed to admit, it fished comparably to my Stellas. :-[

US Reels
I bought one of the first reels they made. I bought mine from Ray Scott. It sucked! I would not consider another. 8-)

SHIMANO REELS
I don't know, but we have a lot of new members looking for recommendations on "The Best" reels at certain pricing points. My suggestions are for those that are interested. I'm not sponsored and I don't really care what anyone fishes. -Kent 8-)

Good All-Around Spinning Rod - River Ready?
SJR783S is a great "all around" rod, but you might find the Avid AVS66MLF the perfect fit for what you have described. BTW, 6 1/2' and 7' rods are the most popular lengths for freshwater fishing. Your choices are not limited. 8-)

SHIMANO REELS
Recommendations: Spinning: Symetre ~ $100 or Stradic CI4~ $175 Baitcasting: Citica ~ $100 or Curado 200E7~$160 I own most Shimano reels at or above indicated pricing points. These are the best bang for the buck. More importantly, all four reels fish just as well as the higher priced models! "Strong, smooth, silent and reliant" 8-)
