I would'nt think too much about it, now given you said it only was in for a second, was it shallow there? Did it kick gravel/dirt up? I would be more worried about dirt and stuff getting up in it then dunking it in the water.

For the sake of making a new post, would yall consider a baitcasting reel in the 7-8oz a heavy reel?

Starting out with a blackmax? That's one of the best reels you can start and learn on, honestly one of the best bang for your buck reels out there. Silvermax included. And I don't know much about the rod, but I know people praise them! That kid is lucky! I didn't own a single pole/reel growing up, not till I hit 18...

Little tip with the birdsnest, I'm sure you already know this but it took me a while to figure this out lol. When getting a backlash, as you pull out the line to fix it pay close attention to it because if you pull it and it makes a knot in the spool and keep pulling it, gonna be impossible to fix that and you gonna have to cut it. So as your pulling it out, if you it feel like its not gonna keep pulling, stop and pick at it some more till it frees itself. Also make sure to loosen the drag by a lot. I'm sure you already know this stuff, just wanted to pass on some knowledge I found out when I was learning.

The best thing you can do is get your hands on the product whether that's going to the store, or asking a friend/family member to test it out if they got it lol. But nowadays it's a gamble and you got a 50/50 shot when ordering online if you gonna like or not. Honestly I usually like finding reviews on tackletour as they do a pretty good job most of the time.

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been asked but I'm not find anything on this. What would you use a Medium/MF rod for? I know every rod company is different, but I'm asking this as a general question. Thanks! Would it make a good spinnerbait/chatterbait rod? The stuff I've seen for the MF, is people are split between using it for single hook lures to treble hook lures. It's the MF I'm more in the grey area about.

For line in general I usually just stick with green/dark green or white. Would'nt hurt to try camo though, never hurts to try something new and see how you like it

Heard the reel was pretty good, but I was a big fan of the casitas not sure how similar they are.

Dobyns fury all the way, I have 3 of them, 1 for frogging, 1 for crankbaits and the other a versatile set up. Great rod, I find the tip very sensitive and I feel every little thing. For the 100 dollar range, this is the best rod you can get. As far as you not liking the color, mabye you can wrap the rod or something on those lines?

Like the gentle above me said, if you overspooled it, it would backlash and jump out the spool on your first cast and every cast. Also it may be sticky.

As your first baitcaster, I would definetly use mono, like AJay said big game. I used Trilene XL and XT 12lb-15lb on my first set ups and still use them on some to this day lol.

Is it it bad if I've had probably 5 or more of those? LOL I don't really cut it anymore when I get bad backlashes, but when I did, I just took my knife and pulled all the loops up and cut them all together then pull line out.

Anytime I use braid, POWERPRO FOR LIFE! Never have used suffix, powerpro is just easy for me to acquire.

Ok so I think I'm pretty familiar with that set up because thats how all my other reels are lol. So the the person I talked to explained to me In the Pro G, the external brakes control the internal ones. Basically meaning, If I put it on max brakes, the brass(which is controlled by the external brakes) gets closer to the 6 pins and they start doing their magic. If I put it on free spool, the brass backs off and those 6 pins don't engage whatsoever. So basically the 6 pins are dependent on the external brakes and without them wont do anything. With your reel, it has External and Internal brakes that you can both adjust which is considered dual braking. I would say the brakes on the inside have more of a effect, so I would recommend 2 on and 2 off. If you have all 4 of them on, thats like all the brakes turned on and you aint gonna cast that far. I cannot tell you exactly how they work with each other, but from experience with other reels I can say the internal is more important than the external. Hope I could help a little bit!
