  1. From Missouri , first would be Virgil Ward for promoting fishing on TV, and promoting conservation. Next is Guido Hibdon. A great light line/ finesse guy, Bass Master Classic champ, and all around great angler.
  2. Hoping she can recover well. Wishing your mom the best moving forward.
  3. A-Jay, this is great info. Thank you sir
  4. People who criticize fisherman as being cruel, should never eat chicken, pork or beef again. They're out of touch with reality. Ignore them.
  5. It's always been very hard when we lose a dog. RIP Hank.
  6. I've done this also. Make sure the hook is sharp, and you can sub all sorts of soft plastics.Grubs, paddle tails, or a section of plastic worm or Senko. Good luck with them Bazoo
  7. Happy belated birthday A- Jay. I know things have been rough for you lately. Wishing you and Lynn the best.
  8. I wondered about you Spankey. Glad to hear from you, and happy to hear your on the mend.
  9. The Creme Scoundrel was the first plastic worm I ever used. My brother bought a three pack at a hardware store in Chillicothe Missouri, around 1967. At first we just nose hooked them. They caught fish this way. Later we learned how to t rig them and that was our favourite way. We were fishing farm ponds on our grandfathers farm. The pond was rimmed with moss. When t rigged, we could cast them onto the moss, reel them to the edge, and let them drop. We were amazed at how many bass hit them. These worms are a stiffer plastic, so when you t rig them push the hook through and bring it back to make a channel for easier hook sets. If you lay these next to a Zoom trick worm, the two are almost identical. With so many worms on the market now, these are still good baits. The old Creme worms still work.
  10. One of if not the very first plastic worms ever made. T rig, split shot, shakey head, or weightless will all work.
  11. For those that use Mepps or similar inline spinners, have you caught more fish on plain spinners, or those with hair, plastic skirts etc? I've been using Mepps again for two seasons, and have had much better results with undressed plain spinners. My favourites are the standard Mepps Aglia, and the Mepps Black Fury/ yellow dot. What's been more productive for you, plain or dressed inline spinners?
  12. Catt began following me shortly after I joined BR. He would always give good advice on my post. I always trusted his advice. He was one of the best guys here in BR.
  13. RIP Catt. I, like everyone else will miss you here.
  14. I would say it's a good buy. I don't have that model, but have had great luck with Okuma reels in the past. Good luck with you new reel.
  15. Where I'm at in northwest Mo, it's booming right now. Yesterday, my grandson and his dad sold 500 dollars worth at 7 dollars a dozen, in a 5 hour span. Lots of sweet corn for sale.
  16. If your just getting started, buy the best gear you can afford, but don't get hung up on thinking that a 400.00 rod will make you good. I'll quote Catt here." The secret to catching bass is between your ears, not in the folds of you wallet". It's all about learning. This is perfect. Be a giver, not a taker. Be courteous to other anglers, and treat others with respect.
  17. I'll say study bass behavior. Try to learn about seasonal patterns. Start out with a few proven baits, and get good with those. One of the most successful bass fisherman I know fishes from a 12 ft jon boat, and uses a push pole to get in casting position. He catches scores of bass each year with a couple of baits. And, ask questions here on BR. There's a huge wealth of good info here. Lastly, fish as much as you can, and keep learning.
  18. Bluegills are one of my favourite fish to eat.
  19. My son in law farms here in North Central Missouri. His three main crops are corn, soy beans, and winter wheat. He plants large tracts of field corn, and always puts in two big patches of sweet corn. He called last night and said the sweet corn is ready to pick. He always tells family and friends to come and pick some, so my wife and I will be picking corn Saturday morning. He'll also be selling some out of his truck at a local farmers market. This year, the price around here is six dollars per dozen. We'll pick several bags and freeze some, and give some to some friends. They taste great roasted on a bar- b- que grill, but my favorite way to have sweet corn is like this: boil the ears of corn, cut the corn off the cob. Add a little butter, then have it with fresh homegrown tomatoes. Salt and pepper them as you like. It's delicious. What's your favourite way to fix sweet corn?
  20. It's never been a waste of time for me. I've spent a lifetime constantly trying to improve at fishing. I love it. You'll play he'''' trying to convince folks around here it's a waste of time. My advice: from A- Jay, " fish hard!"
  21. Catt, you've been such a key person here. We have all been blessed by having you here, and I appreciate your comments and help with things. Know that I am your friend. We will never forget you Catt.
  22. I've caught plenty of dinks on small worms. I've also had them hit much bigger baits too. I think dinks are usually competing for food, and they'll strike anything at times.
  23. Congrats on your new dog. I'm sure after a time, she'll feel right at home.
