What is your favorite lure that doesn't work?
I think nearly any lure will work if you fish with it long enough and especially around active fish. I saw a guy on YouTube catching them with a lego Chewbacca.

Have you seen this new reel?
Ridiculous

Switching back to braid? Worth the investment?
I only use braid for 3 techniques: frogging, flipping and pitching. Everything else is co-poly and flouro.

Fishing brand new area
Excellent fishing at Potholes. Both large and smallmouth bass. Check out Mardon's resort. They will be glad to help you with what is working and where. T-rigged worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jigs all work well there. One of my favorite lakes in the state...

Which reel should I get for my birthday?
Tatula SV. It’s my favorite reel by a wide margin.

Left vs Right Handed Reels
I started with baitcasting gear and a right handed reel. It’s what’s comfortable to me. I am somewhat ambidextrous anyway. On spinning gear I use a left handed retrieve.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
My buddy told me about em. Blade baits work great up here, especially in the Columbia River for smallmouth bass. Yes, the monkey got me for these too. I'll be using them soon and will report back.

Topwaters, which ones and what retrieves?
I like using small prop baits, like the creek chub injured minnow mostly. I also like using labino rico popper, small jitterbug, #9 rapala, and zara puppy.

Spinnerbaits?
Absolutely use them all the time. A 3/8 ounce white with single Colorado blade simply catches fish for me up here in the NW. Bigger double bladed baits don’t catch as many for me. Single Colorado, willow or Indiana blades work best for me. I only see doubles or big singles sold anymore. I cut the front blades off.

New to Ned - Help Please!
I use a 6'6" ML Carbon Lite 2.0 with 2500 Fuego LT and 6 lb Yo-Zuri hybrid. I don't use braid to leader for anything.

Favorite Tactic
I absolutely love fishing at night with top water: whopper plopper, creek chub injured minnow, rico poopers, jitterbigs, etc. Love the big blow ups at night.

Avoiding the Bait Monkey
You're talking my language! A budget. I like the idea of keeping my bait monkey spend to say $100/month. This includes poles, reels, etc. If I want a $200 combo, I have to save for 2 months. At first I was thinking $50/month...not sure that is reasonable.

Avoiding the Bait Monkey
I need a bass boat. Do I? Need? I have 2 kayaks and a 12 foot smokercraft. but a used boat I can renovate would be sweet. The monkey doesn't stop at lures...I am betting at some point that monkey is going to get me for that boat.

Avoiding the Bait Monkey
I have been trying to avoid the bait monkey and it has been extremely difficult as of late. Every time I see the latest sale thread, there is something new that catches my eye. Can I afford that new bait? Do I really need that bait? Is it similar to something I already have? How am I going to use that bait if I buy it? It is not about affording, it is about management. I have 100s of lures that will probably never get used. I prefer to not add to that. These are the questions I keep asking myself, then I end up buying the bait anyway. My newest plan: Identify 3 to 4 key manufacturers and stick to offerings from them. I have narrowed my choices to 6th Sense, Rapala, Strike King and Megabass. So, if the latest sale thread post is not related to one of these manufacturers, I will attempt to avoid those offerings. In addition, I have started a spreadsheet to track what I have on hand (thanks for that tip BR) so I don't buy an item I already have. I hope this works...

d**n monkey, I need just a few of those now. The lakes I fish are pretty deep. I’ve read those suspending lipless run about 3 feet deep. Limited application for me, but what if. That’s the problem. Get back monkey!

Anyone use straight braid for everything?
65 lb J-braid for frogging and flipping. Only techniques I use braid for. The rest is mono, co-poly, or flouro.

6th Sense makes high quality lures in my opinion. Are those the suspending Quake 80s?
