Mixing and Matching Rods and Reels
^ Ya - whether it's my Daiwas with mag-brakes, my Supreme XT with Centrifugal or my Patriarchs with dual-braking...once they're dialed in I don't even worry which braking system the rig I grab has.

Abu Black Max BFS? BFS Alternatives
I would say that either of the SV reels would be heaps better than the Max or the CT.

Tonka isn't socked in - but Emerald (small lake, part of the Tonka 'chain') is about 1/3 covered now.

How to prevent freezing guides
^ Like my buddy here said - it's gonna happen when you fish in temps that low. I know when I lived in MA and RI, I never went out if the air temp was below 34...same here in MN.

What are your go to winter bass lures?

Low Stretch Fluorocarbon
Even Seaguar agrees. "Yes, fluorocarbon lines and leaders do stretch, but not as much as mono. Mainline typically has more stretch than leader. All Seaguar lines and leaders provide the optimum amount of shock impact/stretch." https://seaguar.com/pages/faqs

JDM 20 Twin power...
Only bad part - no warranty if you go JDM.
-
Low Stretch Fluorocarbon
According to Chris' test a few years ago - the lowest stretch FC is Sniper. Currently on sale at ALF for $14 a spool.

Best way to put braid on Daiwa Elite P/F
The CA-80 I use for pitching is about the same line capacity....I've got probably a dozen turns of mono on it before putting the 50# 832 on...shouldn't have an issue backing that P/F with mono. Like John, I don't like electrical tape for this. And ya - run the line through a washcloth gripping as tight as you can when spooling up braid.

That sounds about right...I gotta wait till next year to see how the Bass X80 performs...bench tests show it to be about the same as the CA-80, and at $58 from Amazon it was a deal.

Works great for that...I actually prefer it to the Fuego CT-XS I had been using for pitching prior...the CT is now my frog/buzzbait reel.

I don't remember exactly when I purchased it...I do know it was a good price.

You won't find Shimano, Daiwa or Okuma at Pure Fishing.....they own Abu, Pflueger, Ugly Stick, Penn, Fenwick, Mitchell, Shakespeare, and Van Staal...among some other brands...so that's what they carry.
