  1. Every First Nations person I personally know (adopted grandchildren (Ojibwe), wife (part Cherokee, former girlfriend (Dakota) and others) are pleased the names were changed. They considered the old names to be derogatory to their heritage. Ya - just another way they're trying to push a certain viewpoint on the rest of us. I don't think I've watched any pro-football since the likes of Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi were around.

^ Still not easy at times for some of us. I live on a bloody island on the lake, but between the cancer and the ankle wound, I got out maybe 8-10 times this year.

You should know - you gave it to me.
  4. Fish in my profile pic was caught on one of these.

Pretty quiet this year, was only out on a boat once, and that with with a friend/guide. Day was pretty awe-full weather-wise and we even got chased off the water by a thunderstorm at one point, but still caught some fish. Other highpoint was was taking the 15yo granddaughter out. She'd rarely caught any fish before, so when she got this one she was practically bouncing around in excitement and almost shouting "I caught a fishie, I caught a fishie!" Otherwise it was a pretty boring year for me.
  6. Same stuff I use for polishing up air-brush needles....it's really multi-purpose.
  7. Depending on the denseness of the cover I'm ripping them through, either M/MF or a MH/MF for all my lipless.
  8. Ya, even eelpout can be made edible that way. Never even caught a smallie, so no idea. I do keep a few 1.5#-2.5# largies, and they're good with a little butter, salt and pepper under the broiler. Selective Harvest - that's my motto.
  9. I don't buy really expensive lures so my 'most expensive' has to be the Rattlin' Rap that a pike bit off some years back.
  10. ^ That's why when schedules line up - I take the 15yo granddaughter and/or the 13yo grandson out as often as I can. Teens you know - active social lives.
  11. We got the opposite here - all fishing and hunting license revenue goes straight to the DNR. And when they voted to allow lottery sales here, one of the provisions is that a percentage of the state's lottery revenue is designated for the DNR. Public lakes have free parking and no launch fees...state parks have yearly tag to purchase, but that tag is good for ALL parks, and there's no other fees if you launch your boat from a park.
  12. ^ Don't listen to the nay-sayer. He has an unhealthy bias against Drop-Shot for some silly reason.
  13. Dad and I used that stuff all the time when I was younger.
  14. ^ Since I turn 66 in less than a month, I wish it was...
  15. ^ I wish we had a system like Finland or Switzerland - fines there for offenses are based on the offender's income, not a fixed amount.
  16. ^ There ain't enough paper in the world to print even one copy.
  17. ^ Ya - a dozen greases and oils won't help. I use Cals Tan for all my grease needs and (believe it or not) 3-in-1 Airtool lubricant for all my oiling....that's it for lubrication.
  18. ^ The main tools I use are a kit of precision drivers that my dad gave me once he left his position as Production Engineer for Nortons. They're 50+ years old and include flat blade, phillips, hex, torx and nut drivers.
  19. Nope - the ASA is an independent non-profit organization...no government ties what-so-ever.
  20. My favorite DS rod is a St Croix 7'3 ML/XF - Panfish, Black Bass, Mojo, Victory, whatever....depends on what you're willing to spend.
  21. ^ Minnesota doesn't care if it's private waters - if you're between 16 and 90, you need a license. Only major exception is members of in-state Ojibwe or Dakota nations fishing lakes/rivers/streams designated as "Tribal Waters" (My 'adopted' grandkids (not official, but we all consider it so) are members of the local Ojibwe tribe.)
  22. ^ Good catch there, Russ. Lot of people confuse them...it's the tail/fin color that makes all the difference.
  23. ^ Ya, Klein and Whiha (Mike's choice above) are the 'Gold Standards' for precision tools.
  24. ^ Advantage to that method is you also check for nicks in the guides while cleaning. I also use alcohol for the guides, but diluted Simple Green for the rod itself.
