In the case of nuclear reactors - free neutrons collide with the core-nucleus of fissionable atoms...U235 being an example. The nucleus becomes unstable and splits - creating two smaller atoms and a couple free neutrons...that go on to collide with other U235 atoms and the cycle continues. The control rods absorb excess neutrons and are raised/lowered between the fuel rods to control the reaction rate. If the control rods are stuck 'up'...then the reaction occurs faster and an accident like Chernobyl happens. For bombs - they use a triggering explosive. Little Boy (Hiroshima) used a small mass of Uranium fired by a nitrocellulose explosion into a larger mass of Uranium - the combined mass went 'super critical' and rapid atom splitting occurred causing the nuclear explosion. Fat Man (Nagasaki) had a sphere of Plutonium with charges placed around it. When the charges detonated simultaneously, the sphere was compressed, became 'super critical' - and a nuclear explosion happened. <- Dad has a masters in Nuclear Physics.

Last time I was in Carver - about a month ago - I don't think there was a bare spot in the fishing section. I would say the Carver Fleet Farm fishing section is around the same size as the Eden Prairie Scheels - maybe even a little bigger.

You and I got similar backgrounds, John - I twitched a couple times at that as well. Definitely a memorable catch that he'll be happy with for years to come.

Tell that to the rack of St Croix rods, or the case of Shimano and Daiwa reels - including Vanfords, Tatula SV and others in the 'mid-range'. If you only hit the Brooklyn Park store - the Carver store will surprise you with the selection.

Sounds like you got a winner there and that is definitely a light rig...my lightest is 10.55oz, but most of my rigs run 11.8oz to 12.3oz. BTW: How the heck do you pronounce that rod name...it just seems awkward to me.

^ What Paul said - in my old canoe, I ran everything off of one 75ah gel-cell battery. 30# Endura TM, Garmin Striker 7cv, my tablet and a camera. I'd get 4-5 hours and still be above 50% charge. So yes, it is possible - but not ideal.

Just an off-the-wall question, Mike...for my curious mind. The Scheels Outfitters Guide spinning reel (made by Daiwa) and the Daiwa Fuego LT seem to be 'almost' identical. The Scheels has more bearings (9+1 vs 6+1 for the Fuego), but that seems to be the only difference. Do you know if they're the same base reel or not?

Couple things in the last few days Rear framing is done - including the supports for the seat base...going with the same setup in the rear as I had in the canoe. I also laid in two lengths of 1/16" FRP to make a smooth bottom - especially on the port where the rod locker is going...not going to have tubes, just lay the rods in...it's 8' long from the stern-most end to the bow-most end...just have to finish framing the area in the bow. The FRP will be screwed into the metal braces that go from the subfloor frame to the rib ends and a bead of adhesive will seal the top edge to the hull to prevent water flowing in under it. Front framing has started - right up in the bow are the main supports for the new battery tray, couple of the uprights for the casting deck are in. Once I get at least another pair of verticals in I can mount the P/S hull supports for the deck. Before I do more verticals though, I have to at least frame up the storage compartments...these are going to be drop-in units lined with 1/4" HDPE on the bottom and 1/16" FRP on the sides. Need these built next as the framing for the deck needs to be spaced properly for these to fit in. Sized to vertically fit 8-3701 boxes - or any combo of 3700 series boxes not more than an 11.1" 'stack' - 1-3700 plus 6-3701 as an example - space is 11.125" and 8-3701 boxes total 11.04"...slight extra so the boxes aren't tight in the compartment. One is done - need to make five more before the deck framing can continue. I'm making them this size instead of fewer/larger as the 5/8" BCX I'll be using as the decking can support a person over this span...but not much larger...so the hatch-lids will be walk-upon safe.

Yes and yes I even use them for smaller terminal tackle. Spare dividers from other boxes (I've got 13 of the 3701s) are 'glued' at the half-points using a soldering iron. You can almost double the number of compartments that way.

I don't think it matters - for me, 3/8oz and 1/2oz spinners are tossed on the same rig...40# 832
