  1. Ya - that's one of the 'three' I mentioned. The others being the North Arm launch area with the channel between North Arm and Crystal Bay, and of course Black Lake.
  2. ^ This. When I'm relegated to bank fishing - there's only four easily accessible spots near me. One gets weed-choaked early in the season and is home to mostly sunnies. The other three are crowded with sunny/crappie fishers. Ya, I get a line wet those times, but the structure/cover leaves a lot to be desired. There are a few other bank spots - but the local cities have instituted no-parking for quite a distance from them...meaning I'd have to hoof it quite a bit to get to them.
  3. It's always an interesting time Toss a PM to Boomstick with your e-mail...he'll get you the link to this Thursday's chat room
  4. I just got a Ironton PWC trailer from Northern Tool and modified it - total cost was around $600
  5. I used a bed-extender with my 14' canoe the first year - extended cab Silverado, 6'6" bed. Yes, you have to be a little more careful on turns and backing up - but some good wide-view spots on your side-mirrors, or mirrors that extend out a bit from the sides of the truck are a good thing. I've since gone to a trailer for the canoe - much easier for me to launch and land.
  6. Learn the double-uni knot. When spooling the line up, work it so the knot is at the bottom of the spool. Get some 10#-12# Berkley Big Game to use as backing - it's very inexpensive. The capacity of that reel is such that you'd have to get several spools of braid to fill it - which means knots anyway. Best all-around - a 7' Medium-Heavy/Fast. Get one, spool up the reel with mono - the same stuff you used for backing on the B-II. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/spool-line-baitcasting.html Now get a couple practice plugs - then watch this vid on how to cast a baitcaster...then practice, practice, practice. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/cast-adjust-baitcast.html
  7. My concern for him with that rig - the Battle II 6000 weighs 22oz...he's going to get really tired working that rig for long periods of time.
  8. I'm out of ideas then...a 9' rod is usable, though very ungainly for bass fishing, but a 6000 size Battle II is massive and really not suited for bass fishing at all. I'd still take it to the shop and explain the situation...good stores are pretty forgiving. Might not get full value back, but enough to get a fairly decent bass rig.
  9. My word - that's a surf-fishing rig. While it could work for bass - I'd see if you could trade it in on a 3000 size reel and a Medium-Heavy rod or a 2000-2500 size reel and a Medium rod...those are more bass rigs.
  10. You're not wrong, JJ - originally it did say line. Re-looking it over - if it's a baitcaster, I would NOT put 17# on that...30# minimum - though some will say 20# If it's a spinning reel - then by all means, go for it.
  11. The big one around here needs no explanation for it's original purpose
  12. Plain, old Ivory bar soap.
  13. You could put 10# on that without a problem - just make sure you set the drag properly. FWIW: I'm putting 15# line on a reel rated to 20# drag (Pflueger Patriarch)
  14. Looking closer at the stats - that looks like a Medium power (Dobyns 3-power) I would limit the lures on that to 5/8oz max for treble lures, 1/4oz max for jigs, chatters, spinners remembering that the printed weight is only for the head - hook, blades, skirts, etc are on top of that...and adding a trailer would bring it close to the max rating for the rod.
  15. This is my opinion/experience 1) A mod-fast action is preferred for treble lures - cranks, topwaters, etc - helps soften the blow of a hookset. 2) A fast action is what you want for large, single hook lures - jigs, chatters, spinners, etc - helps drive that larger hook in solid. You can use that mod-fast for the single hook lures, but you'll have to give it a harder 'whack' to set the hook solid. If you have a fast action, then you'll want to soften the hookset with treble lures. Just my $.02
  16. 4-6 hours on a 30ah battery? Possible, if you don't run 'all out' often. I have a 30lb MinnKota as well and after looking at the specs, got a 75ah battery. Here's the specs - thrust is how many pounds it delivers, AMPS is the draw - so at speed 5, your 30ah battery will last 1 hour. SPEED AMPS THRUST 1 8 4 2 10 6 3 14 10 4 20 15 5 30 30
  17. One of the reasons I don't purchase anything from there...too many bad experiences with 'fly by night' sellers.
  18. Even the rig that I run 50# braid on - if I'm not using a leader...drag is set to maybe 6# max...usually around 5#. If I'm running a leader - 4#
  19. Worst part is - he'll probably make a killing on this as there are gullible people out there who'll believe the label...then cry when it turns out it's not true.
  20. Georgia might not have had it in stock but California did...so they shipped it from there.
  21. If you're having rice with your sashimi - you're doing it wrong.
  22. At least you have something on the roof...mine's been 'retreating' for years.
  23. I couldn't swing enough for SI...but I'll still have to learn DI anyway coming from a low-end Chirp only unit.
  24. Boat rash - long as it doesn't affect the performance - shows that it's a reel that's been used...which is how it should be.
  25. Couple popular picks - but my 'A' list...had to go with the 'home town' boy.
