  1. Not only that - they have DNR enforcement officers also patrolling the water, and DNR officers at most if not all landings as well during peak times. Living on Phelps Island on Minnetonka, and 'Tonka being my main fishing lake, I'm well aware of what they got going on. Oh - if you come up here...don't think you'll be able to 'open up' that 150hp powered boat. Speed limit on the lake is 40mph...and yes, they will give you a ticket if you're caught speeding.
  2. Each state it seems has different laws. Minnesota: Open bottle law doesn't apply to boats - so even the 'driver' can have a beer in hand while operating the boat. "The BWI law does not prohibit drinking alcoholic beverages aboard boats nor having an open bottle." BUT Boating While Impaired has the same penalties as DWI - including up to the loss of the boat itself. "Penalties will increase with any of the aggravating factors or a refusal, and can include the following: • A higher fine. • Mandatory jail time. • Loss of motor vehicle driver’s license. • Loss of motor vehicle plates. • Forfeiture of the motorboat and trailer being operated at the time of arrest." and Manual powered boats are excluded. "The BWI law applies to operators of motorboats that are not anchored, beached, moored, docked or being rowed or propelled by nonmechanical means at the time of the offense." All quoted items from https://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/boatwater/boatingguide.pdf
  3. I'm looking at upgrading my unit next year - this pushes me more towards another Lowrance.
  4. Or some type of pliers - one short and one long. These are what I have.
  5. 60 here - I want in on this...well, once the ice melts of course.
  6. I've been saying this for years - "The way things are going, eventually even purified water will be claimed to cause cancer."
  7. Same here - as well as a percentage of Lottery Ticket sales is designated for the state DNR...part of the bill that got us the lottery.
  8. My Hook 2-4, I DID hook up the transducer cable for testing before hitting the water. Not a problem...so I'd say go ahead.
  9. If you cast 'through' the counter, the friction is going to reduce the distance. If you want to use one, cast, then clip the line in before you start retrieving to get a distance. I just estimated my distance as such: Cast out Count how many handle turns it took to retrieve Multiply by IPT Gets it close enough.
  10. 25 years ago, got some money when my grandmother died. Was just enough to purchase an old 14' Runabout with a 40hp motor. Cut to 10 years ago...money issues so sold the boat. 3 years ago, purchased a canoe and have done mods to it every winter since to turn it into a 'fishing machine' (Thanks to @Fishing Rhino and @Goose52) for the inspiration.
  11. Never caught a Bowfin, so no experience.
  12. Walleye Sauger Pickerel Northern Musky All of those have SHARP teeth.
  13. I'm even simpler - 1/4 to 3/4 all get tossed on my 7'0" MH - which is rated 1/4-1oz. So one rod...
  14. When my dad worked at the arsenal in weapons design, every night he'd come home loaded.
  15. Half the fleece for the same price? Ooo - bargain.
  16. I'm only putting 60 yds of mainline on my BCs...my longest casts are about 40 yds, so gives me some 'breathing room' for lure changes before I have to replace. You should be fine.
  17. Just a heads up - these are on special on Amazon for $3 each https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-EHKM-BC-Keeper-Black-Chrome/dp/B003HH5O86/ref=pd_day0_hl_200_1/136-6643560-8245451?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B003HH5O86&pd_rd_r=3e4b657e-999e-46d8-a14c-b8ecfa10a6ce&pd_rd_w=lWGjC&pd_rd_wg=5FmXy&pf_rd_p=531c5da2-92c8-47a3-8df6-cb5fa8f00603&pf_rd_r=BRFGJBQX7ECSN92C97XS&psc=1&refRID=BRFGJBQX7ECSN92C97XS
  18. The Fuego/Fury is a new rig this year, but last year I did use my Fuego CT-XS on a heavy power rod to toss a 5/16oz hollow frog. Long as the tension and brakes are set correctly, it had no problems tossing that...so I'd say a 1/4 oz is within it's range.
  19. If you want a specified crankbait rig - this is my opinion 6-speed reel: 25-28 IPT Moderate action, medium or medium-heavy rod My rig? Diawa Fuego CT-H (6.3:1 - 26.3IPT) Dobyns Fury 705CB That'll run you just under that $250 point at retail - look for sales, look on Amazon - you can get that rig for less than retail if you're patient. Other option? Flip/Pitch/Frog rig 8+ speed reel: 32+ IPT Fast action, heavy rod My current rig Fuego CT-XS (8.1:1 33.9IPT) Diawa Aird-X 7' H/F - looking to upgrade to Dobyns Fury 735C Costs - same as the crankbait rig. Others may have different opinions on brands/speeds/power-action
  20. I have used ML with a 2000 size reel for Ned and it worked well.
  21. Casting - Fugeo CT on a Dobyns Sierra or Fury Spinning - Pflueger Supreme on the same
  22. We're pretty level here in the Twin Cities - in order for me to save .40 a gallon, I'd have to go to the NE suburbs - like you having to go from Chicago Heights to St Charles. At my gas mileage - it'd be a wash. (I know those two cities cause I had a friend who lived in the Heights, and a 2nd cousin who lived in St Charles.)
  23. I may have to do this for the canoe.
  24. Send those prices our way - still $3.40 here...and at 15mpg, my truck sucks a lot of cash from our account.
