Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
Well, painting the new trailer tongue CAN wait...that's the only thing I need a warm, sunny day for.

Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
I only got two major things left for the canoe. Rod rack and the trailer mod. Some minor things, but those two will be enough to get out with. If the weather cooperates, maybe by next weekend.

A-Jay's Inaugural Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
Got that straight. "As it stands right now the latest recorded measurable snow in Minnesota remains at 1.5 inches at Mizpah in Koochiching County on June 4, 1935 and the earliest documented snow in Minnesota is a trace that fell at the Duluth Airport on August 31, 1949." So July IS the only snow-free month in Minne-snow-ta.

Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
Just came back and the larger bays are still mostly ice-socked - Spring Park, Lafayette, Smiths and Browns are 75%-80% covered. However, if you want to wet a line, Black Lake is ice-free...though you'll have to stand in a few inches of heavy, wet snow to cast. Maybe some early season sunnies and crappies?

80 I'll take - you can keep the humidity though.

It's when we have the 100o+ heat index days that I want fall...we had far too many of those last year.

Then of course, this happens... This spring doesn't know what it wants to do.

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Most people get a regular 4'x8' trailer from places like Harbor Freight and use that with a few mods.

You too, huh. Trees dropped the leaves, then we got snow too soon after that for me to clean up the yard. So lots of leaves have been 'fermenting' under the snow all winter.

Win A Boatload of InvizX Line!
I know - heard good things about this line but was a bit expensive for me. Entered and will keep entering (once a day). Maybe a little luck will come my way.

Do Stocked Trout Affect Bass?
Dunno - never used one since they're illegal in MN.

Do Stocked Trout Affect Bass?
A little Google search...and you are correct. Umbrella/Alabama rigs are legal in PA. https://www.pabulletin.com/secure/data/vol44/44-12/583.html

A-Jay's Inaugural Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
From a blurb last year about the Classic Bass Champions Tour. "This will be the first time the Champions Tour has visited “Tonka”. It’s no secret that the lake is one of the best bass fisheries in the Midwest. The lake is loaded with bass of all sizes and the structure that these fish live on is seemingly endless." Full article: https://classicbass.com/blog/last-stop-lake-minnetonka/ This is the lake I live by - I'm on an Island...no matter which way I go, I'll hit part of Minnetonka.

Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
Nice to know someplace in the Metro is open.Smaller bodies of the Minnetonka chain like Black Lake and Tanager Lake are about 50% clear. The larger bays such as Spring Park, Lafayette, Smiths and Browns (the ones I passed today on an errand) are still about 90% ice-covered.

Yesterday my back yard was clear of snow - this is what it's like now...with another 6"-10" predicted On the ice status? Smaller bodies of the Minnetonka chain like Black Lake and Tanager Lake are about 50% clear. The larger bays such as Spring Park, Lafayette, Smiths and Browns (the ones I passed today on an errand) are still about 90% ice-covered.

How many rods is too many?
Cabelas has this one that holds 5 rods

Spinning rod love!
Is that because of the faster retrieve rates of high-speed BCs or something else. My Fuego CT-XS 8.1:1 retrieves at 33.9 IPT A Mitchell Mag-Pro 4000 spinner retrieves at 33 IPT. I don't see much of a difference...I think with a good high-speed spinner you could cover the same amount of ground so the 75/100 ratio goes out the window.

A budget Ned Rig, Grub, Lite T-Rig setup
I hear you there...my Avocet RZ rig was bought as a combo off Amazon. Used it last year to good effect, and it cost less than $20. If I was to upgrade, it'd be to replace the RZ with an Avocet RZT reel- twice the bearings of the RZ - keeping the rod and only $40.

Spinning rod love!
On the converse side of that - just in the interest of fairness - too stiff of a line on a spinner and you have loops dropping off. A baitcaster can handle that stiffer line better.
