Today, in the store, I was torn between wings and legs. I think wings come out better than legs because they take just the right amount of time to soak up the right amount of smoke. But my kids like the legs better, so we went with legs.

It’s not just colors. We can look at 5 fish and barely know which is which. They look at each other and all recognize who is who. They can see happy, sad, ticked off, hungry, tired and ready to make babies just by looking at each other. It’s easy to tell a persons mood from their face. Way harder with a fish. But they can tell when we can’t.

To be catching anything in April is a PB for me I don’t care if they are low 2lbs fish.

If I had a choice, I prefer conventional sized or near conventional sized guides. Biggest complaint about my Kistler KLX is the tiny guides. Awesome rod. Guides are too small.

How do you fish a wacky rigged senko? Is it ok if I drag it?

I once thought like that. Then later learned that the barber I thought was good sucked. People literally started telling me they liked my hair as soon as I stopped going to him. So that fate can be a blessing. I’m actually overdue for a haircut, because fishing.

Gamakatsu hooks are the most popular expensive brand hooks. They are also the most counterfeited. If your gami snaps and the metal looks like it’s a tiny cracked piece of metal concrete with black/bronze shell on it, it’s fake. I have seen fake gamis in many bait shops. The small shops in the bigger markets of the northeast love to stock the fakes. To steer people to something else more profitable. It’s one of the things that drives me to the big box stores. I use 2/0 EWG gamis in place of bigger recommended sizes 3/0 and 4/0 all the time. If they are real, they bend. They don’t snap. Especially if it’s a 2/0. Anyone who regularly uses them would know.

I’ll just throw this factor that’s not always considered out there. They use a lot of different senses. Vision, color, smell, taste, sound, lateral line (which feels all kinds of things). I think that water conditions affect the other senses. So heat, cold, sun, darkness, stainedness, substances in the water (bacteria, chemicals, etc), oxygen levels, water and air pressure all have certain effects on certain senses. I’m not pretending to know which thing affects what, but I think all of these things have an affect on how the fish respond to things like fishing line.

I don’t know. I have to think in crystal clear water it makes a difference. Because I see the fish looking at the braid and not biting what’s attached to it.

It just takes good bearings on the worm and under the main gear shaft and hopefully on both sides of the pinion. Instead of just on the spool. With oil instead of grease I think almost any good reel with upgradable bearings in those locations can be very smooth.

All of them. If I could get the fish’s attention even 1/4 of the time I can get peoples attention with a few words on a message board, I’d be out fishing on a televised tournament.
