  1. Treble hooks are a necessary item if one wants to have a better hookup ratio vs a single hook. It has been said above a pair of hemostats and a good pair of fishing needle nose pliers work good. I have to add to that a lip gripper is a great thing to have as a bank angler. It will add a little bit of space between your own hand and the fish. It is helpful to a boater but the net is a good tool too.
  2. Something that doesn't rattle? Then maybe a minnow profile,Soft plastic swimmer,4in exoswim? I am not really good with a spoon unless I am fishing vertical. A spoon might be the good choice where you are.
  3. This is the way I think about it too. Straight mono or straight braid no leaders
  4. I have a few Kastking Megatron spinning reels 2000 and 3000 size going on 3 yrs of service and they are still working smoothly. I got them off Amazon on some of their deal days I think the most expensive one was 45 bucks. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again if I needed to.
  5. I had the same problems with the shad rap so much so that I put them down. I have been using the KVD pro model 1.5 deep crank when I was able to fish in the boat. What to you guys think?
  6. Well they don't have a number for a old Duffer so maybe a 6 for me this year. Hope to work out some of my physical difficulties next year maybe that will gete back on track.
  7. I caught a lot of fish with a tail spinner vertical against bridge pilings and vertical walls. I think that I still have some of them.
  8. Sorry for the late reply but a lot of people miss to understand that detecting a bite is not dependent on the rod. So if you take that in reflection now the question then turns to do you have a rod (tool) that fits what you are fishing with. Most will choose the graphite rod because it is very much lighter and it won't wear you out so fast. Mostly the rod comes into play according to the type of technique you want to do. You need a quality tool no matter what technique you wish to do.
  9. Very much so!!! It ain't the wand it is the wizard behind the wand.
  10. What about a tail spinner? I used to have success with them around bridges and such maybe 20ft down.
  11. I think so too. The color is called cinnamon. I have caught just a couple fish on it.
  12. Is this close to what you are looking for?
  13. My step brother introduced me to worm fishing in the mid 70's. We were using the Mann's jelly worm in black. I was using a Eagle Claw weedless worm hook that we got from K-Mart. The first fish that I caught was a 2lber. Since that day I was hooked myself. The Texas rig and just a bit later the floating worm has been very rewarding to me for so many years.
  14. Berkeley power bait blue fleck is mostly purple and catches fish pretty well. Culprit grape worm is my current favorite. Anything zoom makes in June bug works for me. I have also tried the Biospawn Plasma tail in purple fire and had success with the 4.5" and the 6.5".
  15. I use the Strike King mini buzz in the 3/8 size. My 1/2 oz is a dinner Bell buzz bait. I have had good success with them this year.
  16. That is what I think of as a ultra lite bait. Texas rigs on my end are rage craws or rage bug, or a zoom worm ol'monster or trick worm. So it is just a difference of what we define as a Texas rig.
  17. I have a 6'10" rod. 3/8 oz is the heaviest recommended weight for it. Drop shot, ned rig,1/8 cranks, wacky rigs, rooster tails it will work excellent all day long. A 1500 size reel works good with it too. Texas rigs not so much. IMHO it is too light for it. A rod that has at least a 1/2 oz weight recommendation would be ok for light Texas rigs. If I am using a spinning rod for Texas rigs I prefer a MH rod.
  18. I must be the odd man out because I have found the Vmc ewg hooks give me the best results. I use the gammies for the superline hooks and the flipping hooks . The g-lock hook was a disappointment for me too.
  19. I wacky rig a Trick Worm or a Finesse worm mostly. They are easier on the wallet.
  20. Catfish almost every time
  21. We see some of that kind of water from time to time. I have used a 4 inch zoom dead ringer on the owner bullet jig head. I have also put a 3/8 to a 5/16 punching weight in front of the dead ringer and a straight shank hook for a mini punch rig. You have already had the swimming worm recommended. Good luck!
  22. I don't think you will get the leg action out of the lure weightless. The legs have to have a little bit of a fast fall to dance around. The lightest weight I have used with that craw is a 3/16 oz. But who knows you can try it and see.
  23. I had a old Shimano bantam curado many years back I still wish I had. Never had a issue until it.
  24. Yes this is on the way for me now looks excellent!!!!
