  1. Plum and red bug are really close in color. Looking at my zoom stuff plum has blue flakes and red bug has green. I have used both for a good while and the only thing I could say is that the red bug works really better in hotter water temps.
  2. Everything above is good. But you just can't leave without having the Dude Wipes or something equivalent. TP does not fair too well all the time especially in bad weather and the dude wipes work in the field as well as in the gas station. They are packaged so you are ready all the time. The other item that I have to have is my old hand held gps. They make better ones today that might be better. Nevertheless the one that I have helps me travel around. Some people can use the cellular phone until it gets wet. I think having a little redundancy in that department is best
  3. I have some of them but they are mostly tackle tray ornaments.
  4. The article was great. It will help me keep a open mind whenever I can.
  5. To go alongside your question I only pick apart areas that I believe that have fish present. Sonar stuff help that. If you see baitfish or Bass themselves you have cut your time down a lot
  6. I have been working with the Zoom Z-craw worm since last fall I think it works out for the best.
  7. The shadow rap I have nothing good or bad to speak of. The x-rap I have used and own a few is the summer jerkbait for me. IT takes strong and long jerk motion to make the bait dance. The rip stop is a shallow jerkbait suspending stye hard jerks are used and the foot on the rear of the bait makes the bait back up and level off.The Husky Jerk is a big producer for me but this bait uses softer jerking or twitching action imparted to it.
  8. These times mean more than anything enjoy!!! They grow up so fast.
  9. I have fished a Texas rig for several decades now and it has always produced catches for me. I almost spent a whole summer at one pond and it was the only lure I used. You have so many options now for plastics it can fit all kind of situations one could think of. I also use jigs and crankbaits too. But Texas rigs will always have a place in my tackle bag
  10. Suspending fish that deep are red eye shad time for me IMHO. Jerkbaits work good for fish above where you are finding them.
  11. The Cotton Cordell Ripplin Redfin is 7/16 oz for the floating model or the suspending model.
  12. I have used them at times I personally have never had a issue with them. The treble hooks should be just fine for you. The only thing I don't like about them is they have not come out in bulk packaging. I prefer Vmc and Owner hooks for most of what I do. My last treble hooks were Gama's and I have bought 2 packs of their new Nano hooks and I like them pretty much if they come out in bulk I might be changing over to them.
  13. My favorite reel is the Shimano SLX. It is just easy for me to use. IMHO it is better to find something that fits you personally and this is the one that fits me.
  14. Back then in the old south the spinning rod was the setup to win with. Baitcaster reels were for saltwater fishing until the later part Of the 70's. A lot of us only had 1 rod and reel combo .The spinning 6.5 ft rod and a 40 or 4000 series reel was universal with a extra spool available. The large size of the reel was chosen because of the extra line capacity. It reduced the possibility of running out before it was time to go home. The fast gear of that time was 4.1to 1. In the early 80's the ratio was improved to 4.7 to 1.the ipt was 14 to 22 ipt depending on the reel brand.
  15. I had the same experience with fc line the first time out but on a baitcaster and a spinning reel at the time it cost me about 40 bucks and a day at the lake.

I am brand loyal based on fishing experiences. I bought some Rage Tail products and I caught fish with them very well so anything they make I would try out no questions asked. I bought a couple of 6th sense jerkbaits based on @Bluebasser86's recommendation and I have had a great time catching with them so I have ordered some more from them. I have used Shimano bait cast reels they have never given me any negative experience and that's what it is all about.
  17. Have you tried a 3.5 in swimbait on a jig head I think it might help you.
  18. Have you tried a grass jig? Another jig to think about is a Trashmaster jig. The plastic covers the hook point. 1/2 oz or more may be needed for thick grass.
  19. I can still remember the days when the beetle spin was king. The other bigger size was a 1/2 oz size. It was in the saltwater side of Bass Pro back in the day. They haven't had any for a good 4 or 5 years now. You can still get it though Strike King it is called Redfish magic they have a boot tail bait on them. And they start out at 1/8 oz up to the 1/2 oz. And it works pretty good also.
  20. The owner offset wide gap hook with the cutting point is a excellent hook. The Trokar hook is good for people who need help with their hookset power because it is very sharp and easy to penetrate. The owner hook does a super job of penetration also but it doesn't seem to tear up plastics as fast. I have a pack of the new gammy hooks with the nano and I think they do just about as good as the owner hooks. Mind you I only have had that one pack. I'm still sold on owner so far.
  21. NASCAR is a good example of a sport that lost its way and had to come up with different things to interest it's fans. Do you remember the days when a car 7 or 8 laps down finished first. It was accrued to Bill Elliott and the Ford Thunderbird. But now they have the lucky dog car which is the the first position car 1 lap down. They did this because of the car of tomorrow setup they decided to use. Bass Fishing has not addressed this where there is much excitement for the fan nor a equal playing field. Technology may pay out a portion of money to the tournaments now. But at what expense? If to complete it takes a 80k boat and 50k electronics then under what current business model does the angler in the middle of the pack make a profit? How do you sell a Rattle Trap when some forward facing minnow is what wins tournaments? It's not thought out and that's not good at this present time.
  22. A lot of times it is not the graphite but the resin formula that makes the difference in one rod or another. I don't get that specific about a fishing rod. I just prefer to find a rod that feels good to me. It matters more to me for someone to tell me how the rod worked or didn't work for them. The great thing about BPS is that if you buy it and don't like it you can take it back. BPS has always been good to me. Academy is supposed to be good like that also and maybe you might have some other place that is like that where you live also.
  23. I have tried out a good many of these baits over the years Cc Super Spot, Rattle Trap , Lv500, KVD Red Eye Shad, BPS and Academy H2O and Walmart's versions. All of them caught me fish but The Super Spot, Rattle Trap and the Red Eye Shad have been the best for me. If I was to pick just one it would be the Red Eye Shad. IMHO.
  24. Lots of people use them but people have kinda like left them behind a bit for a ned rig and a wacky rig. They still catch fish.
  25. My carma ran over my dogma. Lol
