  1. One time only it took for me to learn if weather rolls up I am getting out of the water. I was fishing in a cove with my oldest son and the weather just showed up. I thought that I had enough time to get back to the boat landing because it was just a drizzle but the white caps showed up and slowed me down. We got to the landing wet and and worn out the boat had about 6 inches of water in it. I had to beach it for a couple of hours to let the storm pass. If the weather begins changing get to safety asap.
  2. I don't see myself that it would matter much. I found that the basic Shimano slx works best for me, maybe not you. When you are spending 💰 for a reel and match a rod to it, I believe it should be used instead of in the corner collecting dust. Spinning reels are less expensive but the same principle applies. It's all about options so yours may be different.
  3. That's the way I think it is also. The CS or the Fluke are at their best the way That @Pat Brown has stated. YMMV.
  4. I have never done this deep dive on baits like I have read here. I have always talked to people around me that demonstrated success with a technique. Once I catch fish I will buy a few different colors than I started with.
  5. If I am cranking deep water I try to cast far. Most of the that I am throwing to a target. I have had limited success bombing anything but a whopper plopper. This is a lure I cast a good ways past where I think the fish is at.
  6. I have tried just about all of the worms mentioned so far. My favorite ribbon rail is the BPS 7.5 in. Worm this year. I also always carry the purple color Culprit worm. My most productive worm this year was the Zoom Z craw worm. My fall season was cut short with knee replacement. The trick worm and a ribbon tail worm will probably always be in my tackle bag.
  7. Great catch !!!
  8. I try my best to keep everything dry. I got a grape produce bag to put the stuff that came out that I used to dry out before I put them back in the box and I have the blue zerust boxes.
  9. I got mine today very happy with my order shipping was super fast. These black and yellow arkie style jigs look great better than the ones I was buying local. Thanks again.
  10. Try a Bizz Bait Dizzy Diamond it is 6 inches long and it will stand up on a shaky head and is bouyant with a drop shot. It has a lot of tail movement.
  11. LoL. I got a old school 6' 0 S--- Stik out in my shed. Medium casting, 8-20lb line that will work great for it.
  12. I have 2 jigs that I use consistently the first is the Denny Brauer structure jig. And the trashmaster jig. When I down size I will use a bitsy bug flip jig. Everyone has their own favorite but I believe that the hook gap between the weight on the jig and the hook point is important. I started catching more fish of all sizes when I started paying attention to this IMHO.
  13. Thank you @road warrior best wishes for the future.
  14. I have the usual favorites the Zoom Super Speed Craw and the Berkeley Pit Boss. But I got a pack of the Strike King Rage Scounbug and I had very good results with it. If I continue to see the same results next time out I will buy a bunch more.
  15. I have used it for the past 2 or 3 years so I can see the line better. BPS Excel line is available in clear blue flor. I have used some thinner line that was really thin and clear. I didn't see much difference between the 2 lines.
  16. Just being a part of his therapy 1day is something special. I have had days like that myself. But I don't think I am as injured as he is. But I can tell you he will tell people every time he is asked about when you took time to help him out. The day you spent with him is a memory he can hold on to for a lifetime. Great job well done!!!
  17. I try to fish something new almost every time I go. Most of the time that something new is my first pick. But it is only a part of my pack. If it zeros I have tied on something else. Once I find a bite we are off to the races.
  18. We fish to catch. You never know how much fight you're going to have until it starts. Sometimes it is effected by the equipment also. I have seen that change the fight a lot. Where I am at we don't have those big muskies to contend with. I have witnessed guys fishing with equipment that you could water ski a 5 pound bass and I have witnessed guys catching stripers with crappie rods. The ones that have been the strongest fighters for me have been bowfin. They are good at tearing a good bass rig all apart for you.
  19. I would be using the Zoom z-craw worm Texas rigged. My colors would be green pumpkin magic and plum. But to only take one bait is like fishing with one hand behind my back IMHO.
  20. IMHO I don't really care for watching FFS on the tube. I have heard all of the talk about it from both sides of it. If I was fishing tournaments you could bet your bottom dollar I would be using it to complete. However I don't think that it is the demise of fishing. Many anglers have posted their opinions about how the sport is changing and in their opinion declining. I would agree that it is changing, changing a lot. But I am of the opinion that it is not just FFS that has been changing. The social media scrutiny is a added pressure to the sport for some. Each individual has his own brand to market. I really love this forum a lot. The last few days we were posting about remember when. I remember when the baits that were used to win the Classic were the ones that you had to get before they were gone off the shelves. There is a little to much business put on the anglers shoulders to make a living in addition to the competition with the top level of the sport. The economy has had a effect also that I have seen tourney pros speaking about. Everyone is fighting for their share of the same conditions as it was last year. It has a effect on all of us from top to bottom and most people really hate change.
  21. I have found that the Magnum Dizzy Diamond worm works very well for Neko and the standard and Magnum Dizzy Diamond works as my shaky head worm of choice currently.
  22. The Mustad Tac offset hook is very good. The design is close to Steve Parks Heavy Hammer hook produced by Game changer lures. It is superior in the fact that it was designed to expose the hook point and gap faster than a round bend hook. Mustad also makes this hook in a ewg style also. I have been using the Ewg style for the 4 inch Pit Boss and it has worked very well. Better than the Trokar hooks by a long shot. You may have to work on the sizing a little. These hooks appear to be just a little longer than a stock ewg. IMHO
  23. Several small farm ponds come to my memory. And Lake Wateree in the 80's. Times that have changed through the decades.Bill Dance showed new lures and how to fish with them. Time was simple . Today there are at least a hundred different variations of those same baits to choose from and double the choice of colors. The tricks and uses of baits took time to learn on your own. Today there is a video full of tricks that takes 30 minutes and you got what took time to develop.
  24. For me I don't think shallow unless I got treble hooks on the bait. It is all about wood and grass. There was a fella on the U-tube that always said find wood, pitch to wood, catch fish. I can see the fellas face but I got no name to put with it right now. But that's how I start. 6in deep to 10ft deep it don't matter.
