Punctuation Matters
All I have to say is Glenn needs a new instructional video here for the forums: "Hey folks! Glenn May here for BassResource.com! I'm gonna touch on an important subject that a lot of anglers here to seem to not have a keen grasp on - the use of paragraphs!"

Culling App
Yep, I knew I saw you (Glenn) talking about these before. I like how you have to push the button to change the weight so it can't change accidentally. There's a 4 hour bass "shootout" every wed night at Lake Tulloch that I'd like to start doing. This is the system I think I will use. Thanks!

EXECUTIVE ORDER
I think needing time for oneself is human nature. Monogamy and/or being around someone all the time - not so much.

Pulled one over on the wife.
Or spending even more than you, and probably getting away with it. They are better at it, believe me.

Almost got scammed/ robbed
I always have cash on me. Not only because cards and readers can fail either. "Sorry we can only accept cash right now" If I lose the $60-80 it's not that big of a deal. I think having some cash on you is good for a lot of situations (hookers and drugs, err I mean hooks and plugs ) Edit to add: Bait Monkey: "Buy that" Me: "I have no cash!" Bait Monkey: "you have a credit card in your wallet" Me: "I left it at home!!! Joke's on you, sucker!!!"

Culling App
I could be misunderstanding, but are you saying that you put a colored marker on each fish through the gills? I suppose it could be hard to read the ones where you can turn a dial and enter the fishes weight right on the culling tag thing. I don't know, I've never used a live well.
-
Are any lakes closing in your area?
Bolding mine. California makes little sense, and they do it often
-
Culling App
How do you know which fish to pull out of the livewell? The floating dial-a-weight seems best for real tourneys. I know the OP does casual tourneys but for a real tournament you still gotta pull the fish out and find the lightest one.

snap vs clip vs snap swivels???
I just use Eagle Claw (I think?) regular ol' snaps, few diff sizes. Haven't had a problem. I see some better designs out there but haven't used them yet.

Dealing with inexperienced anglers
When I was 18-19 I did everything I could to get away from the parents. They were normal parents, which isn't the point. They were parents. I look at kids these days who live at home til they're 30 and I think to myself that if a kid is fine living at home for that long than the parents have probably failed. No kid should want to be around their parents at that age! I don't blame someone who is 19 for wanting to be away from them, especially if, as the OP said, they have a strained relationship. Later in life I changed my attitude, as many people do. My Dad almost died when I was 25 and that changed it for me. So anyone my age who is saying you're doing something "wrong" etc is possibly forgetting what it's like to be 19. We also don't know what your parents are like. Some are jerks. But it's good to get advice of all different types of people like you're doing here. I love my parents now. Back then? Sure I loved 'em but pfft, leave me alone and stop telling me what to do!

Your Bank Fishing PB?
Bass can stress you out that's for sure! ^^ Catches like the one you described are why I video my trips. I love having it all on vid. I have a vid of my friend walking into the water trying to free a fish he caught that was wrapped in some underwater branches. He finally makes it to the spot and the fish breaks free. Funny stuff I can laugh at over and over lol!

Your Bank Fishing PB?
Lotta beauties there, love the photos! I'm still pretty new at this - seems like fish weight can vary significantly in fish of about the same length. I mean duh, but I look at 10 pounders sometimes and think, "That's my fish except after a bunch of big meals!" Mine was so skinny.

Your Bank Fishing PB?
Well a lot of us are limited to what and where we can fish because of Covid. It's almost like it's still Winter in a way, so here is another "Winter Style" thread about - not much. My PB is from the bank since I almost always fish from there - for now. Seems like most fatties are in the deep water, except during spawn. Anybody can catch a 20 pounder from a boat, right? Just kidding!!! Anyways, I'm hoping this is a category I don't completely suck in! My PB from shore is 5.25 pounds and is in my current avatar photo. The fish is the one on the left. Got this skinny post-spawn fish with a T-rigged white Super Fluke in Coyote Creek, Morgan Hill, CA, 2019. Barbless for what it's worth. I was extremely excited. My previous best was maybe 3 pounds. I also got my runner-up, 4.75 pounds from the same spot a month later. Crankbait. So far I'm winning the thread! Not for long, I'm sure. What's your best from shore? *** I feel like I've been kind of a jerk here lately. If so, I apologize. Too much stress. If I'm wrong however and I'm just being my normal "bit of a jerk" then please disregard.

your first baitcasting reel
My first and so far only BC reel is an old Shimano Caenan. My friend bought it for $2 at a garage sale and gave it to me. It came on an Abu Garcia Vengeance which snapped on my first 1.5# bass. Was an exciting topwater strike so was worth it (for a one dollar rod haha). The reel seems fine. Just learned to skip with it, a little. So far it's the only BC I've ever used and I haven't used it a ton, but I'm a newb so that will change very soon. Works fine for me.

Skipping and backhand casting
Just an update to my sudden skipping "success"..... I was goofing around today with a T-Rigged craw and said "What the heck, let's skip a few" I forgot to raise the tip AND didn't thumb it! Totally just spacing out! The result was an awe-inspiring explosion of line. I did manage to get it out but dang it was like 1/3 of the spool! Just spooled it last night so whew! Derp de derrr..... The bait did skip though!

Deep cycle batteries
See if you can order online and pick it up in the store without waiting in the line. Never know... When I bought my truck batteries Walmart offered the best warranties of anyone around, and prorated returns for 5 years, I think.

Social fishtancing
Bass are definitely keeping their distance from me so far this year. Congrats!

Dealing with inexperienced anglers
Dude I loved your story! I'm trying to help out my parents now and they are acting like little babies. It ain't about fishing, wish it was. They screwed up their finances bad and they listen to nobody except morons, make dumb expensive mistakes, and and and AND!!! I don't know how old you are. I feel for ya man. But if you're stuck with them..... Give Mom a spinner bait and let her cast and crank all day, regardless of conditions. Tell her this is the magic bait. Give Dad something he can't possibly catch a fish with. After awhile one of them will quit (Dad first probably) and the other will soon follow and leave you alone. On the other hand, as an adult, I really wish my ol' Dad would fish with me, and it's cool that you have parents that give a fart about you. A lot of parents don't seem to. If your parents are cool (other than as fishing partners) count your blessings

Need help on deciding between two baitcaster reels
Kinda glad to hear this about braid (my bolded)! I decided to put mono on my baitcaster last night. 14#. My friend spooled it with mono when he gave it to me and I've never used braid on a BC. Took off the line and thought of braid, then thought against it. I figured a backlash might be a lot more difficult to untangle with braid, and as a rookie I do get them. Gonna go try it in a few hours and see how it works.

Finding a good backpack
If you're looking for something simple and not a full-on fishing backpack, try Walmart and stores like that. I use a book backpack for my truck kit. Only thing it doesn't have that you mentioned is an insulated separate pouch. Was $11. My main backpack is nothing special either. Has the separate pouch if you wanna take home fish or whatever (not insulated). Not sure where it came from though. I suggest staying away from webbing/mesh as much as possible because they like to eat fish hooks. Not sure about mounting a rod to it but you could rig something up. For taking home fish, I did it this way once for stripers. Get a mylar bag, or make one if you can find a thin sheet of mylar. Just tape a bag together. Even in direct sun it will keep stuff fresh for awhile (there are youtube videos that test this with a temperature gun). Leave the fish alive on a stringer until you're ready to leave. Maybe have an ice filled cooler waiting in your truck. Not a problem if your hike back isn't extremely long. A couple bottles of frozen water as ice in the bag was enough to get my fish home. Stick that in your backpack, or another bag and that's all you need.

Preferred knots
Improved clinch. I'd use Palomar more but I screw it up sometimes. I pull the knot tight and it comes undone. Must be passing the hook through the loop twisted or something. Easiest knot yet I screw it up frequently. Was using a double uni for leaders (just started playing with leaders) and I discovered that knot is kinda too fat for my guides. Causes some fun times for sure. Gonna do the Alberto next - or was it that other one, I forget.
